What A Day! Mother’s Day in the Godfrey household was a huge success this year.

Ginger and I arose around 7:30 a.m. She reminded me that she was the Mother of our children. I used to skip Mother’s Day because I always told her that she wasn’t my mother.

Kids’ Learning Place Students Visit MUPL Preschool students from the West Milton Kids’ Learning Place visited the Milton-Union Public Library on Monday, March 5, for a class field trip. Students enjoyed a puppet show, songs, snacks, and a tour of the library with Children's Librarian Wendy Heisey and New Friends of the Library member Tim Koeller. They especially enjoyed the children's room and looking at all the kids' movies.

Ginger’s birthday is May 11th. I use to tell her that her gift was for her birthday and Mother’s Day. That was a no, no.

As usual, we rushed off to Sunday school and church. The Mother’s Day sermon hit me between the ears, and a new resolution came to my mind.

After church, Ginger fixed a wonderful breakfast of waffles, bacon, mixed fruit, and a giant chocolate covered cookie she received from our son and daughter-in-law, JR and Lainie and their family.

I then watched The Players golf match, and witnessed Webb Simpson’s pounding of the entire field.

Then at 3:00 p.m. we ventured to the home of our granddaughter number two, Marie, who’s tying the knot in September. They’re getting married at the Orrmont Farm in Piqua, Ohio. This historic octagon banked barn is a breathtaking venue for events, specializing in weddings.

The young couple will be married outside, and then the reception and party will proceed in the newly remodeled showcase. Tim and Janelle Baker have done a wonderful job of making this venue spectacular.

After the open house, we ventured to visit daughter number one, Kelly and David Rank, for a Mother’s Day pizza party. All of Kelly’s family was present, and at one point the scene looked like a gift exchange frenzy, with all the Mother’s present.

By the time we arrived back home, it was close to 7:00 p.m., and I saw Webb accept The Players crystal trophy.

Ginger fell asleep, and I thanked God for the entire day of special blessings He gave our family and me.

This week’s bottom line: To the world you’re a Mother, but to your family you’re the World.

“Life doesn’t come with a manual, it comes with a mother.”

Tips for hosting a successful garage or yard sale Instead of giving away unwanted items that have gathered dust around the house, many people turn to garage and yard sales to transform their clutter into some extra money. Yard sales may not be a “get rich quick” scheme, but they present an environmentally friendly way to clean up a home. What’s more, they can be an ideal way to connect with neighbors and meet new people. Any money earned is an added bonus.

Statistics collecting resource Statistics Brain says that roughly 165,000 yard/garage sales take place in the United States each week. Nearly 700,000 people purchase something at those sales, leading to millions of dollars exchanging hands.

Yard sales may seem straightforward, but there are a few strategies to ensure such sales go boom rather than bust.

Choose the right date and time Plan when to hold the sale by looking at the calendar and choosing an open weekend. Many people host their yard sales on Friday, Saturday or Sunday mornings, theorizing that this is when the most people will be free to browse their wares.

Begin early in the morning so that shoppers will not need to disrupt their schedules much to visit neighborhood sales. A 7 a.m. start time will attract the early birds and free up most of the day.

Advertise the sale To reach the maximum number of shoppers, advertise your sale in various ways. Signage around the neighborhood announcing the sale is one method. Signs should be bold, simple and easily readable for passing motorists.
