Excerpt from a letter sent to the explorer Sven Hedin, 17th of June 1893. ”Since electricity, with the idea in its tow, travels around the world in ¼ of a second I have a disdain for the insignificant dimensions of our globe. Therefore, I am less interested in exploration and travelling for research than I used to be. As evidence of my exceptional inconsistency, I will admit that I have a great interest for exploration of a significantly smaller earthly body, namely the atom. My thoughts are appropriately occupied by its shape, its moments, its fates, etc. Both as an individual and as a contributing cell to everything in the universe.”
