Page 1

WELCOME

We are back for an afternoon of Summer Jumps Racing.

The weather is set to be a sunny 25C, so grab yourself a drink, take a seat on the lawn and enjoy all todays racing action!

On the track we have a total of 59 horses declared, across 7 races. The grounds team have been working hard to maintain the good ground but also to ensure all the horses are kept cool during their time with us today. As a team we would like to wish each and everyone today, the very best of luck and hope you have a very enjoyable evening with us.

Our sponsors today, are great supports of Worcester Racecourse of which we are very grateful for Today we have Savills returning today, who are taking hospitality in the trackside marquee and sponsoring 2 races today. Our other sponsors today are the local company Purple Granite, FBC Mamby Bowdler and Dragon Bet who are all great supporters to Worcester Racecourse. Don’t forget to scan the QR code around the site to win big prizes with Purple Granite!

Worcester Balloon Festival is also sponsoring today; of which is back here on Pitchcroft this weekend. Tickets still available so come and bring all the family to what is a fantastic event for Worcestershire.

Now that our Season is fully up and running, we are looking ahead to our next upcoming fixtures and events. Follow us on our social media platforms for an update on what is going on, but we really cannot wait for our brand new Friday night fixture on 5th September, which is Race Back to the 80s; which will be a fantastic evening.

We are also looking for some “Treaders” to get the track back to racing condition after a race day; so please look out for our advert in this racecard for more details.

This summer we have some fantastic opportunities to really make your day with us extra special. We have race sponsorship available, of which involves a VIP experience to gain exclusive access to the parade ring, race card and on track advertising, and celebrations with all winning connections. Not only this, we are about to launch a Summer Special Hospitality offer for just £99pp. More of both these opportunities can be found online, or within this racecard.

For any enquiries, or feedback, please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of our team members via email at info@worcester-racecourse.co.uk

Thank you all for supporting Worcester Racecourse and have a great evening with us and good luck!

We hope to see you again for our next race day on Wednesday 25th June for a great afternoon of racing.

Horse & Jockey Welfare at Worcester

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary

Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.worcester-racecourse.co.uk.

Racegoers are requested to be particularly aware of their personal safety in all areas where they come into close contact with the horses, such as the parade ring and the horse walks.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

BETTING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

Racegoers are advised that bookmakers are not obliged to pay until the ‘Weighed in’ is announced, nor to remain on the course more than 5 minutes after that announcement.

HORSE WELFARE

It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected whilst a diagnosis of the injury is made by one of the three veterinary surgeons deployed around the course. The screens are designed to afford privacy during this diagnosis.

Please do not always assume the worse, and at all times the horse’s welfare is our paramount concern.

If you have concerns about the integrity of British racing or the wellbeing of the sport’s participants, human or equine, please contact RaceWISE Anonymous reporting.
