Welcome back to Hereford Racecourse for our Season Opener and thank you to BetWright for their support today.
It barely feels like we closed the gates in May and are back again! But we have lots to look forward to over the 2025/2026 season, including our Venetia Williams Raceday on Tuesday 25th November, celebrating her 30 Years in Training, our ever popular Christmas Jumper Raceday returns on Saturday 20th December, then looking ahead we will welcome the Richard Layton Charity raceday back on Thursday 16th April which will also close the season. Our fixture list is displayed in your racecard so be sure to get these dates in your diary.
Throughout the season we have our Day at the Races packages (admission, drink, pie & racecard) available which offer great value, but these do sell out fast so would encourage you to get booked in via the website for your desired fixture. As well as our Snaffles restaurant opening on feature days, we also offer Premier Viewing in this facility for all fixtures in between, which makes the perfect base for the day, again all available via the website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk
With attention turning back to today’s action, I would like to take the opportunity to wish all Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff the best of luck with their runners at Hereford and beyond as we see the jumps season getting back into full swing. Also a huge thank you to our team of groundstaff who have worked tirelessly to prepare the ground for today after an incredibly dry summer
Before our next fixture on Monday 3rd November we welcome St Michael’s Hospice here for their Fireworks display on Saturday 1st November, details are include in your racecard and tickets can be purchased in advance through their website, it promises to be a dazzling evening of entertainment for all the family!
We hope you have a great day with us and see you again in early November
Best wishes
Camilla Esling, General Manager

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
Can be given little or no chance
TheBHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses oncetheyhave taken partina sufficientnumber of racestoenable the Handicappers to make anumerical assessmentofeach horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weighttobecarried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participantwithan equal chance based on its best recentformunder itsoptimum conditions.
Ahorse rated100, forexample, would be set to carry 1lb morethan ahorse rated99(ignoringany penalties or allowances). Theratings published in the racecardfor handicap racesare the ratings thatwereused to calculate the weighttobecarried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps racesthe rating shown is thatofeach runner at the time thatthe entries forthe race were confirmed.Any subsequently published change to arating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.for novicesteeplechasers, the latest hurdle race rating maybeshown until such time as the Handicappers allot aseparatesteeple chase rating.Such ratings areprefixed by the letter h.
