Ffos Las Racecard - Tuesday 28th October

Page 1

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, and a very warm welcome to Ffos Las Racecourse!

We’re absolutely delighted to have you with us today for what promises to be a fantastic raceday – packed with thrilling action and competitive racing

Before we begin, I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Steph Geer, and I have the pleasure of stepping in as Acting General Manager while Kevin Hire is away for surgery. Our thoughts and very best wishes are with Kevin as he makes a full recovery. I’m honoured to be taking the reins here at Ffos Las for the time being, and I’d like to thank the entire team for being so welcoming I’m really looking forward to this next chapter and to spending the coming weeks with you all.

First and foremost, we’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to today’s sponsors: DragonBet, Country Land and Business Association and Rees Richards & Partners. Their generous support not only makes today’s racing possible but also helps us continue to deliver unforgettable events here at Ffos Las. We’re truly grateful for their ongoing commitment.

Today is our second National Hunt fixture of the season where we have four hurdle races, two chase races and a bumper to finish off the card. The feature race of the day is the Class 3 Best Odds Guaranteed on DragonBet Chase which will be run over two miles and three furlongs with £11,700 prize money up for grabs and where we see 10 runners go to post.

Looking ahead, we’re really looking forward to our Countryside Raceday on Sunday 9th November. Join us for a fun-filled mix of laughter, learning, and feathered chaos, as Meirion Owen and his border collies team up with Indian Runner ducks for a one-of-a-kind countryside show! It’s a day for all the family - and with our Family Bundle offering access to the Grandstand, parade rings and eateries it’s fantastic value for everyone. We also have a range of hospitality packages available - from Premier Viewing and Bridles Restaurant to our Balcony Boxes. Why not treat yourself and speak to a member of the team about upgrading your raceday experience today?

Looking further ahead, we’re already excited for our Christmas Party Raceday on Thursday 18th December What better way to get into the festive spirit than with a day at the races here at Ffos Las? Our Festive Christmas Jumper Raceday will be full of seasonal cheer, comfort, and joy! Whether you’re planning your office Christmas party, a festive outing with friends, or just looking for holiday fun in West Wales, this is the perfect choice And be sure to join us after racing for live entertainment that’ll have you dancing the night away!

On behalf of the entire team here at Ffos Las Racecourse, thank you once again for joining us. We hope you have a wonderful afternoon, and the very best of luck if you’re having a flutter!

Procedures

If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.

As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via emergency evacuation gates, onto the racecourse itself, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember;

• Take your belongings with you.

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.

Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a highspecification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

The market should reveal plenty here but the vote goes to Irish point runner-up LON CHANEY who hails from the in-form yard of Olly Murphy and also appeals on pedigree. Dan Skelton’s returning Jack Black could emerge as the main danger, although other hurdling newcomers The Price of Peace, Kalkbrenner and Swindon Village all command plenty of respect too.
