Page 1

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Chepstow Racecourse for what promises to be an exciting day of live horse racing, thrilling competition, and unforgettable moments. Whether you are a seasoned racing enthusiast or joining us for the first time, we are delighted to have you here.

At Chepstow racecourse, we take immense pride in delivering a fantastic racing experience, complemented by exceptional hospitality, fine dining, and a vibrant atmosphere. Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure your day is both enjoyable and memorable. From the electric energy of the grandstands to the elegance of our hospitality suites, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

We extend our gratitude to the owners, trainers, jockeys, and racegoers who make this sport so special. A huge thank you also goes to our sponsors of the day, all organised as part of our annual NFRC raceday today. We’ve had a wonderful, long-standing partnership with the NFRC on this day and we’re delighted they are back with us again to enjoy a wonderful afternoon’s jump racing.

We’re in a key time of the year for our industry, with a lot of the spring festivals upon us and we’re delighted to be racing on our sports biggest raceday, the Grand National on Saturday 5th April. We have a fantastic day lined up with competitive racing, amazing hospitality and a party atmosphere being led by Mathew Horne (from Gavin & Stacey) performing a live DJ set after racing. Tickets are still available and we’re looking forward to welcoming you to that raceday.

Wishing you a fantastic day of sport, entertainment, and hopefully, a few winning moments along the way.

CHEPSTOW RACECOURSE is part of Arena Racing Company which includes; Bath, Brighton, Doncaster, Ffos Las, Fontwell Park, Great Yarmouth, Hereford, Lingfield Park, Newcastle, Royal Windsor, Sedgefield, Southwell, Uttoxeter, Wolverhampton and Worcester racecourses

SPONSOR THANKS & OFFICIALS

Refusal Of Admission

The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone and to remove any person from the course without assigning a reason for doing so We do not accept responsibility for loss or damage to a person or their property. This is stated in our T&Cs, which may be obtained from the Racecourse Office

Parade Ring

This is an ideal opportunity for racegoers to see the horses close up and assess their attitude and fitness. The horses begin to parade 15-20 minutes before their race, and this is a great chance to pick your horse.

Placing a Bet

The Racecourse Betting shop is situated in the Grandstand & Paddock enclosure. The bookmakers are located in the betting ring in front of the main Grandstand.

The Weighing Room

This is located opposite the Winning Post and all jockeys weigh out here before each race. Their weight, including their saddle, should correspond with the weight shown in today’s racecard for their particular horse in that particular race. Once the race is finished, the jockeys will weigh in and their weight must be the same as when they started. On racedays, four stewards ensure each race is run according to Jockey Club rules and regulations.

Winners Enclosure

Unauthorised Bookmaking

It is a condition of entry to this Racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual found contravening these conditions will be evicted.

Emergency Evacuation Procedure

“Due to circumstances beyond our control racing has had to be suspended, will you please evacuate the buildings by the emergency exits. You will be guided by members of the racecourse staff to specific assembly points, determined by which area you are in. Once there, please wait until the emergency services and/or racecourse staff tell you what to do”.

Please see the assembly points clearly marked on the map.

After each race, the first four placed horses are led into the Winners Enclosure where they are unsaddled and the jockeys take the saddle and weigh in. There are presentations by race sponsors to the connections of the winning on the winner’s podium.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

MY FRIEND SEAN lost little in defeat when foiled in his bid for a hat-trick last month, doing well to finish third having got racing too early The pair that finished ahead of him have franked that form since, and this looks a good opportunity to regain the winning thread in an ordinary 0-100 handicap. Port Or Starboard is a fairly consistent operator at this level and has won off a higher mark than this, while last-time out winner Remarkable Flight may prefer this more galloping track

Quite a few runners have something to prove, and the most solid option looks to be Harry Derham’s lightly-raced SERGEANT FURY, who showed improved form on handicap debut earlier this month and a repeat of that effort may see him go close here. Greenrock Abbey is potentially well-treated on return to this sphere if rediscovering his form in first-time blinkers.
