KEY Owner Breeding Breeder Jockey Trainer Sponsor Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating birthplace of horse if not Great Britain

Very competitive but JOYCEAN WAY went close in similar contests earlier in the season and should have no issues with conditions. He’s taken to get off the mark back down in grade, while Kessaar Power was in top form when last seen and has won off a break previously. Of the rest, Johnjay holds solid claims returning to the scene of his last win, while Strobelight could well find improvement now handicapping for his shrewd connections. SILK AND STEEL posted his best effort to date when successful over C&D last month and may be able to make it 2-2 at this track. Potential pacesetter Ricardo Phillips beat a pair of next time out winners at Leicester last time and could prove dangerous if coping with this different test. Zaeim Alharb represents shrewd connections and could be interesting if handling conditions on his handicap debut, while 3-time course winner Fighting Poet won’t be inconvenienced should the ground become testing

Dual course winner KRANJCAR is in tremendous form having landed a double at Lingfield just 7 days ago and he may be able to defy another penalty to land the hat-trick under a good-value apprentice. Silent Flame has been consistent with two recent runner-up finishes and could be a serious danger given her proven form on easier ground, while Blue Collar Lad and Rockstar Icon can fight it out for minor honours.

Though 2025 hasn’t been particularly kind to JACQUELINA to this point, she has been given a real chance by the handicapper and is worth chancing here with a first-time tongue strap enlisted.
