Bath Racecard - Wednesday 3rd September

From themoment a Thoroughbred is born they’re supported by ateam of experts who are dedicated to every aspectoftheir development and care horsepwr.co.uk

On behalf of everyone at Bath Racecourse, I’m delighted to welcome you to this afternoon’s fixture.

We are incredibly grateful to our valued sponsors - Betwright, Ryano Plant, the European Breeders’ Fund, and Bath Holiday Rentals. Your generous support plays a vital role in making days like today possible. Your continued commitment to British racing and our local community is truly appreciated

Today’s fixture has something for everyone. The sprinters are out in force with races over both 5 furlongs and 5 ½ furlongs, while the stayers are also catered for with a contest over 1m 6f We also have a race for the youngsters, where one two year old will break its duck and lose his or her maiden tag in our second race this afternoon. We also have a competitive looking 0-85 fillies handicap over 1m 3.5f which has attracted a decent field, including a rare runner from Jessica Harrington’s Irish stables (Gangster Granny) This is her first runner here since 2021 and only the third in total this century.

It’s the last chance for horses to qualify for both our big Bath Summer Sprint and Summer Stayers Series, before the £35,000 finals at our next meeting, and plenty of owners and trainers are seizing this late opportunity as we have good field sizes for both qualifiers.

So far this season, with eleven meetings gone and seven to go, the battle to become Top Trainer and Top Jockey at Bath racecourse for 2025 is proving quite a battle.

In total we’ve seen 73 winning horses from 560 runners throughout the season, with both Taylor Fisher (13 rides) and Jason Watson (14 rides) riding five winners each. Trevor Whelan has ridden four winners (20 rides) at the track, with a whole host on jockeys on three winners a piece, namely, Sean D Bowen, Callum Shepherd, Finley Marsh and Jim Crowley.

Hector Crouch, who rides today, has only ridden three horses here this season, and has won on two of them!

As far as the top Bath Trainer goes, with seven meetings to go Joe Tickle and Tony Carroll are neck and neck on 5 winners a piece, with Adrian Wintle, Ron Harris and Grace Harris all on 3 winners each.

If you are looking to make this day extra special we do have upgrades available in the Royal Crecent Restaurant or stunning roof garden, please make your way to the customer service desk if you would like to purchase one of these.

Looking ahead we have the iconic Wurzels playing live after music on Saturday 13th September and the Best of Bath raceday on Sunday 14th September which I hope you will support.

Thank you for joining us today, we hope you have a wonderful afternoon and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. A wide-open contest with a chance taken on the returning KINGSTON SUNFLOWER. HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT BATH

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty todaywe also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualifiedVets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout theirtime at the racecourse. The locations andvehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to anyincident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today.
