I sing the body electric – esse verso de Walt Whitman me veio à mente diante dessas novas pinturas de Daniel Feingold. Faiscantes, vertiginosas, ácidas, como uma dança de centelhas que, entre si, disputam o espaço total da tela – um all over da era digital. Oriundas de um estilhaçamento prévio, em curso, que impossibilita toda e qualquer conciliação e que insiste em se conter nos limites da tela, a corrente elétrica que a custo o corpo procura controlar – o élan vital da pintura. O fundo prata ou alumínio energiza fisicamente a superfície chapada. Tal pintura não descansa o olhar, restringe a tela a essa experiência e quer validá-la para além das injunções circunstanciais. Não atende a nada e não falsifica seus compromissos, vive plenamente sua solidão num mundo de compromissos legítimos ou ilegítimos. Não solicita adesões, talvez uma só: a ainda possível grandeza da pintura.
Frente aos neoacademismos em voga, ao realismo populista, ao linguajar propagandístico que busca apelos aqui e ali, para uns e para outros, esta aqui oferece a fragmentação, a pluridimensionalidade fraturada, por oposição e em sequência à unidimensionalidade moderna. Por onde começar se não há uma direção definida? Os elementos articulados ou desarticulados expõem muito a indecidibilidade atual, as dúvidas que estão aí dentro. Aproximam-se ou repelem-se? Querem me aproximar ou me repelir? A acidez das cores corrói qualquer ilusão de falsa conciliação – relâmpagos em céu claro. É o desconfigurado atual em oposição às reconfigurações correntes de fórmulas antigas. E o que dizer dessas cores tão improváveis, tão indefiníveis, tão além dos padrões modernos? – lancinantes, eu diria. Reconfortantes, não. Ameaçadoras, talvez. Descarregam corajosamente no espaço a sua versão da complexidade atual que querem simplificar – o bem-estar não está mais entre nós. Lampejos derradeiros do body electric.
I sing the body electric – this verse by Walt Whitman came to mind when facing Daniel Feingold’s new paintings. Sparkling, vertiginous, acid paintings that, like a dance of sparks, dispute the canvas’s total space among each other – a digital era’s all over. Sparks arising from previous shattering, in progress, prevent any conciliation and insist on containing themselves in the limits of the canvas’s electric current, that the body seeks toughly to control – the vital élan of the painting. The silver or aluminum background physically energizes the flat surface. Such painting does not rest the gaze, but rather restricts the canvas to this experience and wants to validate it beyond circumstantial injunctions. It doesn’t aim to live up to any expectations and doesn’t fake its commitments, it fully lives its solitude in a world of legitimate and e illegitimate commitments. It does not request adhesions, well, maybe just one: the still possible greatness of painting.
Facing the neo academicism in vogue, the populist realism, the propaganda lingo that seeks appeals here and there, for some, the painting offers fragmentation, the fractured multidimensionality, in opposition and in sequel to modern one-dimensionality. Where to start when there is no defined direction? The articulated and disarticulated elements expose a lot of the current undecidability, the doubts within. Do they come together or repel themselves? Do they want to approach me or repel me? The acidity of the colors corrodes any illusion of a fake conciliation – just as lightnings in a clear sky. It’s the current deconfiguration in opposition to existing reconfigurations of old formulas. And what is there to say about these unlikely colors, so undefinable, so beyond modern patterns? – troubling colors, I would say. Comforting, no. Threating, maybe. The paintings bravely unload in space their version of the current complexity that people generally want to simplify – well-being is no longer among us. The ultimate flashes of the body electric.
