design thought

Throughout my career, I’ve realized not how little I know, but how much there still is to learn. I’ve come to understand that light and architecture form a non-verbal language—one I’m eager to interpret and committed to mastering.

Light is a faithful companion; it not only reveals my architectural imperfections but also rewards me when I find in it a beautiful way.

I understand that light affects everything that surrounds me; it is not about seeing it, but about listening to it. It is not about what it affects, but about its effects—before and after.

LIGHTING

miami, florida

year: 2022 - present type: architectural lighting

14,000 m 2 levels: 17+ signature hotel

the “hotel & residence” project is one of miami’s historic and signature buildings, to enhance the historic value of its art deco architectural style was one of the main directions to conceive the lighting concept of its restaurants, hotel amenities and guestrooms.

creating beautiful lighting scenes that comply with the florida fish and wildlife conservation commission (FWC) was one of the most challenging constraints that gave us the opportunity to think outside of the box.

the management and coordination of all the involved design teams needed to be precise and pristine, it needed to be passionate but kind.

THE BEACH HOUSE

as reported by forbes , the unveiling of the $37.5 million Beach House at the shore slub private collection, orchestrated by witkoff and monroe capital, marks a historic moment in miami beach’s illustrious legacy. crafted with meticulous attention to detail by the renowned roberm.a.sternsarchitects, this architectural marvel stands as the inaugural oceanfront residence on the beach. It was a true pleasure for me to serve as the head of the lighting design at luxpopuli, infusing every corner with an enchanting radiance.

MIDTOWN ATHLETIC CLUB LIGHTING

year: 2023 - presente

type: lighting design

levels: 3 high end sports center & spa

“midtown athletic club” is a chain of gymnasiums, fitness centers, and spas throughout the United States, mostly in the central and eastern areas.

the project consisted of an architectural remodel that required the intervention of the lighting design to satisfy the brand identity that has been generated by all its venues.

particularly in this case, one of the determinants was the existing circuits, since most of them were 277V. the solution to continue using the equipment of other sister venues was complex but satisfactory.

lighting and being consistent with the design of different enclosures of the same brand not only represents a challenge per se, it is the solutions that are generated by engaging in a dialogue with the architecture of each of these that are worth telling, that are worth admiring.

designing is that creative and practical part that invites us to keep dreaming of spaces and at the same time satisfy that never-ending hunger to fulfill the question that is implicit when finishing a project; “what’s next?”

El cielo lot five is an 18,000 sq-ft private residence located on one of Mexico’s most exclusive coastal sites. The house includes 6 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, prep kitchen, cinema, infinity pool, and a large central courtyard.

The lighting concept balances luxury and intimacy, featuring warm, soft scenes in private areas to enhance comfort.

For the landscape, a no-uplighting strategy was adopted to protect the integrity of the surrounding dark sky zone.

HOSPITALITY

the specification of high-end luminaires is one of the tools that provide great value when it comes to solving concrete designs, not only for the customer’s taste but also to provide unique functionality in each project.

Knowing about mexican, american, and european manufacturers allows me to explore a large number of creative alternatives that satisfy both the design and the end user.

SKYLODGE

BADROOM

enhancing the architecture’s character is one of the main axes of the taking off process of everyone of my projects,

in this particular case, the use of the lighting curve coves enhances the protagonism given by the textures (marble) provided by the interior designers.

SKYLODGE

LIVING

A lighting design project is not only reduced to the analysis of the space and the interaction of the luminaires with the end user or its self-function.

the use of a correct control system that allows enhancers and maximizes the use of light in each space, is essential for the proper implementation of projects from the most basic to the most luxurious.

in this sense, to have familiarized myself with control systems such as lutron or vantage to the simplest as some locals gives me a variety of solutions.

CHIPI CHIPI 112

xalapa, ver

year: 2022

team: joshua arcos

type: proyecto arquitectónico

112 m 2 levels: 3 unifamiliar

chipi chipi 112 is a house that is designed as a letter to my grandmother and to xalapa, in this project I tried to capture emotions that run through each room. from the main porch, where my grandmother would spend hours looking at her plants, to the kitchen; a cuisine with character from Puebla that extols its culinary virtues. at the same time, in her bedrooms or living rooms; you find her hugs, warm and full of her love, a space where time doesn’t pass, a room you don’t want to leave.

on the other hand, xalapa; my hometown, where the rain of tiny drops that we call chipi chipi, wraps you in its night veil, but I do not consider it a cold rain from which one wants to escape, but rather the opposite, a rain that invites you to walk , to walk through the old alleys of Xalapa and why not? a hot coffee.

01 | LIVING PB

the importance of creating harmonious spaces that not only inspire warmth, but also emotions, is the main axis of the project. making each room feel intimate was a challenge, since colors, raw textures and modernity played a crucial role in every decision taken.

02 | LIVING PB

making each room feel intimate was a challenge, since colors, raw textures and modernity played a crucial role in every decision taken.

there is a lateral and subversive language between a bed and the one who inhabits it, this feeling of “please, five more minutes”. this lateral and subversive language lives into the space and rests into its sheets.
