Founded in 1932, Archmere’s faith-based academic program challenges all students at College Preparatory, Honors, Advanced, and Advanced Placement levels to advance their critical thinking, sharpen their academic skills, take ownership of their learning potential, and advocate for their own educational goals so they can explore and discover new opportunities, experience success, and empower themselves and each other to reach new levels of personal and academic distinction. Our academic and extracurricular philosophies help shape leaders in and out of the classroom, on the athletic fields, and in students’ local communities.

Mission Archmere Academy is a Catholic, Norbertine college preparatory school, valuing community, respect, zeal, reverence, and wisdom. Nurturing body and soul, mind and heart, Archmere focuses on the whole person through academic excellence, faith reflection, social development, and service to others. Inspired by its heritage, Archmere cultivates empathetic leaders—young men and women prepared for every good work.

Admission & Enrollment Admission to Archmere is based upon a student’s 7th and 8th grade transcripts, Archmere’s entrance exam, written recommendations from two middle school teachers, and an interview. For the 2022-2023 academic year, 528 students are enrolled in grades nine through twelve, 54% reside in Delaware, 38% in Pennsylvania, 7% in New Jersey and 1% in Maryland; we also have a small percentage of international students. 22% of our students identify as students of color.

Faculty There are 52 full-time faculty and two part-time; 81% hold advanced degrees, with five holding doctoral degrees. The average years of classroom teaching experience is 11. The student-to-faculty ratio is 10:1 with an average class size of 15. The faculty includes four AP test readers, a Math and Science Institute consultant, and the 2018 Chemistry Teacher of the Year for the state of Delaware.

Graduation Requirements All students must at least successfully complete the following credit requirements for graduation: English • 8 Mathematics • 6 Physical & Life Science • 6

History • 6 World Language • 6 Theology • 7

Health • 2 Electives • 4

Students are required to take six core courses per semester, one elective course per year for a total of 54 credits. Any course, whether core or elective, over the six required core classes counts towards the one required elective credit. Students who are taking three AP courses in one year may opt out of the required elective course. Students taking four or more AP courses in one year may also opt out of their sixth core course. The academic year is divided into two semesters.
