“Access to communication in the widest sense is access to knowledge, and that is vitally important for us … We do not need pity, nor do we need to be reminded that we are vulnerable. We must be treated as equals, and communication is the way we can bring this about.” Louis Braille, 1841
Cinematography is about framing and the development of the moving image, but what happens when the oldest camera known to man, the use of sight, is taken away and deteriorates. Architecture can offer much more than a visual aspect. ‘Architecture of senses’ is a quote from the brief that was initially set, that I decided to explore, and develop a scheme that explores senses other than sight. The Sense of touch smell taste and sound, and to determine a function to each sense, in order for people to readapt to their environment without the use of sight, to learn or enrich skills needed to live a fulfilled life and to socialize with other people who are in the same situation. My initial idea developed from analysing words associated with my chosen subject, I then prepared them in Braille format, in order to develop this pattern and a framework to insert the senses into, across the site.
BlindSpot
Blindspot is a centre where people who are blind or partially sighted can reconnect to their senses and socialise with others others who are in a similar situation, with personalised rooms that control the amount of light that is allowed into the room, like an aperture on a camera
