Press Release Results of the ARCHIGINEER AFRICA 2015 International Competition The ARCHIGINEER AFRICA INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION is an biennial event, born of the shared willing of AFRIKArchi to develop the teaching and the professions of architecture, town planning and construction in Africa . Our aim through this major project is to encourage, stimulate and reward creativity and inventiveness of talents of today and tomorrow , with a view to development of the african continent . This competition, free of charge, is open to young professionals and students enrolled in architecture, town planning and civil engineering schools, universities or polytechnics in Africa and overseas. Participants had the opportunity to enroll alone, or in teams of up to four people. Thus, for this third edition, the chosen topic was « Public space » , in response to real and current issues on the african continent. The competition was launched on 8th October 2013 and was closed on 31st January, 2016 . Like the previous edition , we have registered more than 1 000 participants, professionnals and students enrolled in about 100 schools , universities or polytechnics in Africa and abroad, from more than 50 countries, such as Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algéria, Belgium, Lebanon, Burkina-Faso, Mali, Togo, Côte d'Ivoire, Mexico, Kenya, Uganda, Bénin, Madagascar, Tchad, Djibouti, Italia, Gabon, Cameroon, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Nigeria, USA, China, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Tanzania, Guadeloupe, Zaire, Pakistan, France, Guinea, Malawi, Portugal, Indonesia, Congo, Rwanda, Niger, Ghana, India. The statistics have once again exceeded our expectations for this third edition. They also demonstrated a real willingness of professionals and students to cultivate a spirit of challenge , to advance architecture, urban planning, civil engineering as major development challenges of Africa. Participants were from both the Maghreb, SubSaharan Africaand abroad, french speaking but also english speaking. To evaluate the projects, AFRIKArchi convened an international and multidisciplinary jury , bringing together architects, town planners, engineers, sociologists... and chaired by the famous moroccan architect and President of Casamemoire, Rachid ANDALOUSSI. The other members of the jury were: Fiona MEADOWS, Franck HOUNDEGLA, Emmanuel AMOUGOU, Monica CORALLI, Francis SESSOU, Seyfeddine CHARRABEN, Jean-Marc LALO, Denis TARGOWLA, Amélie ESSESSE. The jury deliberation was held on 11th February, 2016 at Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine, Palais de Chaillot in Paris. Following this deliberation, three winners were chosen and five projects received special mentions, and several projects have been selected to participate in the itinerary exhibition. This will take place from March 2016 in several cities accross african cites and oberseas.

The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 26th, 2016 at the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM) in Rabat. During the ceremony, the ARCHIGINEER AFRICA 2015 Prizes will be given to the prizewinners. Several prominent figures, a panel of professionals and experts will also be invited to this ceremony. An exhibition of the best projects will be held the same day at the BNRM, and a buffet at the end of the ceremony to create a moment of exchange and networking. In order to promote young talents, a Book featuring the best projects (prizewinners and selected projects for the exhibition) will be published soon. This is the first of its kind in Africa!

The prizewinners 1st Prize : Team n° 506 | « VERT-EBRE » at Lomé in Togo, DJOUMESSI MEGNIGOUM Phalone LOUMON Kokoè Lisette Vanessa – MAKOUGOUM MBA Raïssa, Students of Ecole Africaine des Métiers d'Architecture et d'Urbanisme (EAMAU) of Lome in Togo.

2nd Prize : Team n° 649 | « GRAND COUR » at Dakar in Sénégal, LO Matar – BOUDHABHAY Shama – SARAVIA Matilde Julia, Students of Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris La Villette (ENSAPLV).

3rd Prize : Team n° 97 | « L'ARCHIPEL » at Fès in Morocco, MESSOUDI Soukaina – EL MERAOUI Fatima Zohra – DEROUICH Saad, respectively students of Ecole Nationale d'Architecture (ENA) and Architect graduated from Ecole d'Architecture de Casablanca (EAC).

Have received the special mention of the jury, the following projects : Special mention « CLAY » : Team n° 654 | « Terre Burkinabé » at Ouagadougou in BurkinaFaso, OUEDRAOGO Charles – BORIE Manon – GIRAUD Nathalie, Architects. « Respect of the choice of material in relation to the site. Interpretation of architectural typologies. », Jury members.

Special mention « PROGRAMMING » : Team n° 451 | « Unity fountain Dome » at Abuja in Nigeria, IZUCHUKWU Magnus Amadi, Architect. « Programming that highlights the fundamental dimensions of the theme. », Jury members.

Special mention « LANDSCAPE REDISCOVERY» : Team n° 276 | « L'espace public comme catalyseur » at Casablanca in Morcco, SAMIH Kawtar, Student of Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris La Villette (ENSAPLV). « The project that objectives and enhances the landscape dimension. », Jury members.

Special mention « INSPIRATION UTOPIAN » : Team n° 404 | « Cotonou System D City » at Cotonou in Benin, AMEDE Kemi – VIGNEAU Maxime, Architects. « The perspective of a thoughtful programming : Graphical representation. », Jury members.

Special mention « SENSITIVITY OF THE SPATIAL APPROACH » : Team n° 303 | « Une canopée pour Anosibe » at Antananarivo in Madagascar, SAWADOGO Racine, NICOLI Marion, ADAM Arthur, Students of Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles (ENSAV).

About AFRIKArchi AFRIKArchi is a non-profit Association 1901 law, based in France, represented in over 15 african countries as well as Brazil, USA, China with an international network. Our goal is to support and enhance the education and the profession of architecture, town planning and civil engineering in Africa, to rise and spread a positive and dynamic image of african local materials used in construction, to cultivate inspiration and creativity in architects and town planners students, future engineers as well as professionals. In the same continuity, give to these actors the opportunity to discover and appreciate the architectural and technical possibilities, develop sustainable renewable energy technologies, to raise awareness of african leaders that sectors such as architecture, town planning and civil engineering conceal potential, considerable opportunities for Africa.
