InthesecryptsarethetombsofseveralPopesandanumberofimportantpersenages.Fewwastehave beenthroughthecrypts,whichare carefullyguarded.Thoughsomeof theearlierPoneswereburiedinthe
esttombshavebeendestroyed,but therestillremainanumberofancirmonuments.Mostoftheearly PopeshadmonumentsintheoldBasilica,butseveralwereremovedto otherchurchesinthecityandafew wereinterredinchurchesandalaelsfoundedbytheirfamilies.The greaternumberofPopesburiedin thecryptsarelaidinthenorth ..isle,whereisthesarcophagusof lionifaceVIII.,withhisrecumbent statue.Ontheheadofthestatueis thetiara,withthedoubleringof gold,firstusedbyhim.Thetombs ofPopesPiusII.andPiusIII., whosemonumentswereremovedto SsAndreadellaValle,arealso there,andnexttothemisthetomb oftheonly.EnglishPope,AdrianIV. onSaturdaynight,March22nd, St.Josephs LonventSchoolroom presentedagayappearance,when greatnumbersofpeopleattendedthe CatholicBazaar,whichwasheldin aidoftheBuildingFundforthenew Church.
TheBazaarwasopenedateight o'clockbyMr.Thomas,M.L.A.,afterwhichthepeoplewerefreeto examinethestalls-sixinnumberwhichwereplacedatintervalsall aroundtheroom.TheywereLeantifullydecorated,andmanywerethe doubtsexpressedastowhetherpreferencecouldbegiventoanyone morethananother.
Thestallswereprofuselycovered ithsilverware,fancywork-cushions,paintings,firescreens,etc..numbersofprettyknick-knacks,and last,butnotleast,anumberoflittledollsdressedtorepresentcarious nurseryrhymecharacters.

Onthestage,occupyingthemost prominentpositionintheroom,was theRefreshmentStall,whichwas daintilydrapedinredandwhite. Mrs.StoneandMrs.Sheridan,who hadchargeofthisdepartment,were indefatigableintheirattendanceto thecreaturecomfortsofthenumerouscrowdswhothrongedthisvery temptingsaloon,andwhowereattractedthitherbythemanydelicious daintieswhichweredisplayedin abundance.
