My faith has always been a cornerstone of my life. My parents have been role models to our family through making time for Mass, prayer, and Sacraments, while at home or on vacation. Attending a Catholic high school was a priority for my family. I am grateful that Archbishop Spalding gave me many different opportunities to grow in my faith which entail: Mass, Confession, Adoration, Ranger Rosary, as well as service opportunities. During my four years, I served as an Altar server, Sacristan, and Eucharistic Minister. I took advantage of having St. Bernadette’s next to our school by attending daily Mass. The relationships I've had with my teachers at Spalding, especially religion teachers, have encouraged me to grow in knowledge of myself and of God. I will take my Spalding experiences with me and continue to live out my faith boldly.
“For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” Matthew 6:21
What is art? For most, art is characterized by its visual aesthetics and the way it conveys messages in a somewhat unconventional manner. What some seem to overlook is how art is an experience that is meant to be shared with others. This is what art means to me, especially when it comes to the Art program at Spalding. Even though it started out as a refreshing elective in freshman year, Spalding Art has never failed to convince me to take another class for the next 3 years. The people that I have met through the art program have become some of my closest friends and the most supportive in both my artistic and individual journey. We all come from different backgrounds but share and unite under our love of art. Spalding Art encourages me and others to express ourselves freely, devoid of judgment, in such a welcoming and loving environment. I have not only been able to grow significantly as an artist, with how I have been able to discover and experiment with different techniques and mediums, but as a person, with how I have been encouraged and supported in all of my ideas, goals, and dreams. As my time at Spalding comes to a close, the art program will continue to hold a special place in my heart and an experience that I will never forget nor regret.

Service has played a huge role in my time at Spalding. Whether it was helping run Red Cross blood drives, leading the Travis Manion Foundation club, or fundraising with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, I’ve always found meaning in serving others. I’ve also been a team member with Best Buddies, Make Every Day Count, and One Love. These experiences helped me grow as a follower and taught me that small sacrifices of time and effort can contribute to something much bigger than yourself. I’ve also had the opportunity to grow in my faith and serve spiritually through altar serving and my role as a sacristan. On top of that, my time in Scouting has shaped a lot of who I am today. Spalding gave me the space to pursue service in areas I’m passionate about, and I’m grateful for every chance I had to make a difference. These experiences didn’t just shape how I spent my time here—they shaped how I want to live moving forward.
Ever since I started playing lacrosse my dream has always been to play division 1 and I am positive that attending Spalding has helped me achieve this goal. Throughout my time here at Spalding I was given the opportunity to play 3 different sports. Those sports being basketball, football, and of course, lacrosse. Spalding is in a position where they compete in one of the best conferences in the country in sports. The MIAA is filled with great talent in all sports. Being a part of a sports team at Spalding is something I will cherish forever because it has created some of the best memories that I will forever remember. The coaches that Spalding brings in, not just for Varsity, but for Junior Varsity, and Fresh/Soph, are some of the best coaches in the country. They not only teach you the sport but they teach you how to be a man and that is something you take with you for your entire life. Being at Spalding is more than just being a student, it is being a part of an entire community that loves and cares for every single faculty, staff, and student within the building. I have built so many friendships that will last a lifetime, gained a strong work ethic, learned discipline, organization skills, and attributes of leadership which I will hold on to for the rest of my life. Sports at Spalding has had its ups and downs but has taught me life lessons, hard work, and what it takes to be great. I cannot be thankful enough to Spalding and all of the coaches who have coached me throughout my four years here at Spalding. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Spalding athletics.
Theatre has been a part of my time at Spalding since the beginning of Freshman year, when I auditioned for The Little Mermaid, and it has impacted in many ways my entire Spalding experience. The biggest reason for that has been the ASHS Theatre Community. It is basically impossible to take part in theatre without making good friends in one way or another. I’ve made friends by discussing theatre and the production we were doing, having to put mics on people and watching backstage, and by just meeting new people. They are a wonderful, positive, and creative group of people to be with, and so many of these friends that I first got to know in theatre are in many other activities I take part in as well. Having this community be a part of my entire Spalding experience has been amazing.
Choosing to attend Spalding for high school was the best decision I have made, especially academically. The multitude of classes Spalding offers has allowed me to determine the subjects I enjoy most, informing my decision when choosing a major for college. Additionally, being able to take AP level classes beginning freshman year has provided me with confidence as I transition into taking college courses.
More importantly, the academic support I received at Spalding was unmatched. To begin with, my teachers and counselors always supported me when choosing classes. They allowed me to challenge myself academically and craft a schedule that I was satisfied with. All of my teachers were extremely responsive to any questions or problems I had, too. If I needed to stay after school to make up a test or lab, they were always accommodating. The teachers here at Spalding strive to challenge students while still giving us the resources to succeed. Over my four years, I have learned how to persevere as a direct result of how I am challenged academically. I now am confident when asking questions in class or requesting help when I need it.
Finally, the academic atmosphere at Spalding has helped me build connections. The nature of academics at Spalding, with an emphasis on doing both group and individual work, allows us students to support each other and build friendships that will last outside of the classroom. I am forever grateful that Spalding’s academics have challenged me, grown my confidence, and provided me with lifelong friendships.
My time in Spalding Theatre has been impacted in ways not just including the community. I love to write and think of story ideas, and interacting with theatre has given me a multitude of ideas to be creative with. I’ve written poetry, come up with stories, drawn art, and so much more based on experiences that the shows and interactions with other people have provided me. I mostly put the creativity to work for theatre, but I’ve utilized some at other times as well. Theatre has also helped me to grow in multiple ways, but especially in my theatrical knowledge. I’ve learned more musicals, grown in my acting and auditioning skills, and learned far more about the tech side of theatre than I ever thought I would. Through theatre, I have also been able to grow my understanding of the world. There are so many different people with so many different stories of their own that I have been able to learn during my time in theatre and have been able to see how other people view the world. Theatre has truly been a wonderful staple of my time here at Spalding and I am so grateful for the chance to have participated in it.

From Spalding to FIT
Since graduating from Spalding, I’ve been studying Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City. My education has taken me abroad to Florence and Milan, where I studied at Polimoda and PolitecnicodiMilano.
While at FIT, I received the Michael Kors Design Scholarship a full-ride awarded to one student annually for design excellence. I also earned the Jerome L. Greene Foundation Scholarship and the Critic Award during our 2024 Associates Showcase,DenimDivine
My path was shaped by a love for both art and STEM. I completed four years of PLTW at Spalding and found my true calling in fashion after taking Honors Applied Design. Fashion design became the perfect intersection of my creative and technicalinterests.
Spalding’s engineering and art programs laid the foundation for my career Mrs Brunner taught me design principles that apply far beyond engineering, while Mrs. Tobin inspired me to pursue art seriously. My time in the theatre costume department senior year also played a key role in launching my journey into fashion.
