The Hannan Way: Rooted in Tradition, Guided by Faith
As the Hannan Family embarks on the 2024-2025 academic year, we do so with deep gratitude for those who have laid the foundation of our success. Our theme, "Rooted in the Hannan Way," reflects this appreciation, emphasizing our traditions as a Christ-centered community that cares for one another. By recognizing our past and celebrating our present, we continue to nurture the qualities that prepare our Hawks to become faith-filled servant leaders
At the heart of this mission are the five Hallmarks of the Hannan Way: Faith, Family, Excellence, Integrity, and Charity These hallmarks, proudly featured in this year’s theme logo, remind our Hawks of their responsibilities to think critically, act with integrity, and respond to others with compassion
Every day, our Hawks embody the Hannan Way holding themselves to high standards while treating others with respect and dignity Both inside and outside the classroom, they live out our school motto: Charity Leads to Perfection A few years ago, during a Hall of Fame celebration, this was explained beautifully: Treating others with love brings us closer to Christ This philosophy is rooted in the legacy of our namesake, Archbishop Philip M Hannan, who, from his earliest days as the Archbishop of New Orleans, exemplified care and compassion for others Today, our Hawks carry forward this legacy through their academic, athletic, and ministry programs, ensuring that the Hannan Way remains "alive" and continues to inspire future generations.
As Head of School, it is my humble privilege to partner with our Hannan Family in supporting our students as they grow into the people God is calling them to be. I am especially grateful to our employees, alumni, parents, grandparents, and community members, whose dedication fuels our shared mission. I want to extend particular thanks to our administrators, teachers, and staff, whose tireless commitment and care for our students inspire their success.
As we anticipate a great year ahead, I invite the entire Hannan Family to join me in prayer for all our Hawks those who have come before, those who are currently with us, and those who are yet to join us. May God’s grace continue to inspire our Hawks to live the Hannan Way, and may we always remember: It’s a great day to be a Hannan Hawk all day, every day!
Yours in Christ, Denis Schexnaydre

Strengthening Our Ability to Relate
Our commitment to holistic development is evident through new and enriching programs This year, Health and PE I students are participating in the Botvin LifeSkills Training program By the end of the year, all students will have undergone this highly interactive, skills-based course aimed at fostering healthy decision-making, stress reduction, anger management, and positive relationships, while raising awareness about the consequences of substance abuse and media influence.
In addition, the entire student body is now engaging in S O A R (Strengthening Our Ability to Relate), a comprehensive initiative focused on social-emotional learning. Students are divided into S.O.A.R. Family Groups, each guided by faculty, administrators, or staff facilitators.

Two standout traditions the Hannan Golf Classic and the Crimson & Navy Gala showcase the power of community and generosity in helping ensure our students continue to thrive These events, while uniquely different, both reflect the heart and spirit of our Hannan family, making a lasting impact on our school and our future.

Hannan Golf Classic: A Day of Fun and Giving
The annual Hannan Golf Classic continues to be a fantastic day filled with fun, laughter, and camaraderie for both participants and volunteers alike Held at Beau Chene Country Club, this spring event once again attracted over 120 golfers who enjoyed a day of competition, good company, and charitable giving. While the beautiful weather was a highlight of the day, the experience was enhanced by a delicious breakfast, various food vendors stationed at different holes, and a wide selection of spirits for everyone to enjoy. Though no one managed to hit a hole-in-one and take home the a Chevy Blazer, there were plenty of prizes, treats, and memories for participants to carry home This fundraiser had a meaningful impact on the school community, as the proceeds were used to upgrade the sound system at Hawk Field, further enriching the game-day atmosphere for all Hawks
Crimson & Navy Gala: An Unforgettable Evening
The 2024 Crimson & Navy Gala was an instant success and a testament to the strength of the Hannan community With recordbreaking ticket sales, this beloved tradition brought together new, current, past, and future stakeholders for a night of celebration, entertainment, and giving
As attendees entered the Hannan gym, they were greeted by a stunning transformation a ballroom of elegance adorned in a Black & White theme, with coordinating lighting and decor that set the perfect tone for the evening The black and white checkered dance floor was the highlight of the room, adding a stylish and eye-catching focal point.
The Bucktown All Stars kicked off the night with fantastic live music, creating a lively atmosphere as guests indulged in cuisine from 14 different restaurants, socialized with friends, and participated in games. The entertainment continued with an energetic live auction, featuring friendly banter that kept the crowd engaged
The event concluded with another performance from the band, sparking an outpouring of dancing, laughter, and plenty of photos to commemorate the evening As Hannan’s largest annual fundraiser, the Crimson & Navy Gala plays a crucial role in supporting the school. G.R.A.C.E. GrowinginInclusionandUnderstanding
Archbishop Hannan High School is excited to enter the second year of the G R A C E Program with enthusiasm and commitment Launched last year, this program is dedicated to creating a more inclusive learning environment for students with disabilities within the Archdiocese of New Orleans Named G R A C E , the initiative encourages all students to show grace and understanding toward those around them, fostering a culture of empathy and inclusion.
At the heart of G.R.A.C.E. is a co-teaching model, where special education teachers collaborate to design and implement lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning needs This ensures that all students receive personalized support while actively engaging with their peers in a rich educational setting
G R A C E students participate in Science, World Geography, and Religious Studies once a week alongside their peers. In addition, these subjects, as well as Math and English Language Arts, are taught within the G.R.A.C.E. classroom to provide tailored support. This year, students have the opportunity to explore their interests further through electives such as Photography and Band, along with participating in Theater, Choir, and Art with their grade-level peers
Beyond academics, G R A C E students are encouraged to become fully involved in campus life They are active in activities such as Cheer, Color Guard, Basketball, and the Bowling Team, as well as in various clubs, including 4-H, Sister Hawks, Gamers Guild, and Blackfriars.
One of the key contributors to the success of the program has been the Hawk Buddies. Last year, 52 students volunteered to help G.R.A.C.E. students navigate their high school experience This year, that number has more than doubled, with 110 students signing up to be Hawk Buddies These incredible young men and women go above and beyond to build genuine friendships and connections with G R A C E students, ensuring that they feel motivated, supported, and truly part of the Hawk Family
The G.R.A.C.E. program represents a significant step forward in ensuring that every child, regardless of their abilities, has access to a high-quality Catholic education that prepares them for future success. With two new students joining this year and the program continuing to grow, we are excited to see G R A C E become a shining example of inclusion because G R A C E is the Hannan Way
