2024 Highlights…
While the varsity finished as league runner-ups, the season was still filled with many good memories. Two wins over Calvert Hall, including bringing the Bernie Reif Alumni Cup back to Curley, were among those at the top of the list. The squad once again traveled up to Philadelphia for an overnight trip and recorded two victories against quality opponents. We were also able to find out who our best bowlers were as the team had some “spare” time during the trip. A second drive up north to play Phelps Academy (PA) gave the boys and additional opportunity to bond off the field through a visit to an Escape Room and taking in a college game at UPenn. Homecoming continues to be a special day that starts with Mass in Curley’s chapel followed by a great breakfast provided by the parents. The players watched a few minutes of the Alumni Soccer game before earning a draw against a tough McDonogh squad. Seniors and their parents were honored in a pre-game ceremony. The team really found its form in the back half of the season compiling a 6-0-2 record during the second round of league play. This moved the Friars in a tie for first at the end of the regular season with Loyola. The Dons secured the top seed by the tie-breaker. After a first round playoff bye, Curley defeated McDonogh at home in dramatic fashion via a penalty kick shootout. A huge crowd of Curley supporters showed up at the championship game to cheer the team on despite the rainy conditions.

Friars earn post-season honors:
All-MIAA- David Brunetti (Senior/Forward), Carter Clark (Junior/Midfield), Michael Griffith (Senior/ Goalkeeper), Nick Lentz (Senior/Back), and Casey Price (Senior/Midfielder)
All-State 1st Team Brunetti, Lentz, and Price
All-Region- Brunetti

Congratulations to the members of the Friars soccer program who were inducted into the Mu Alpha Theta National High School Math Honor Society.

We are looking to schedule a few more events in addition to the Alumni Soccer Game and Friends of Curley Soccer Bull Roast to get our soccer alumni together. One idea is to host a “Watch Party” for a big international match. Keep an eye out for more information.
If you are interested in making a gift to support the soccer program, the link to give is below. Gifts are used for financial aid, team meals, overnight trips, equipment not included in the school’s operating budget, and other “extras” that help the soccer program remain competitive.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. Curley Soccer has a long tradition of fielding great teams. My goal is always to field a team that will make our soccer alumni and school community proud. I also want to help with keeping members of this special brotherhood connected and to make each soccer alumnus feel part of Curley Soccer.

Sincerely,
Barry Stitz ’87
