Expo Milan 2015 was a globally renowned international exposition held in Milan, Italy. Themed “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” it brought together countries, organizations, and visitors from around the world to explore and address the challenges of food sustainability and security.

BRIEF

Based On The Theme Of Expo Milan 2015 (Feeding The Planet, Energy For Life), The Syrian Pavilion Focuses On The Richness And Diversity Of Its Territories, The Pavilion Represents The Fusion Between Syrian Traditional Food And Innovative Handcrafts.

The entrance genesis from three stripes twist among each other to form olive tree trunk; The olive tree holds great significance in the Mediterranean region, and in Syria alone, there exist over 100 million olive trees.

DESIGN NARRATIVE

This pathway lead visitors up from the main entrance, through outdoor exhibit spaces, workshop areas as a shape of Green olives.

The entrance genesis from three stripes twist among each other to form olive tree trunk.

THEME CANOPY

SUSTAINABILITY

Incorporating traditional Arabic and Islamic motifs into the ground design as a homage to Syria’s rich cultural heritage.

Integrating sustainable materials, such as wood, into the construction while incorporating a disassemblable canopy for shading purposes.

FOREST

Green is often associated with nature, growth, and harmony. Incorporating green hues in the pavilion’s design can create a sense of serenity, freshness, and a connection to the surrounding environment.

EARTHY

Brown represents the earth, stability, and warmth. By incorporating brown tones in the design, it can create a grounding effect, providing a sense of stability & comfort to visitors.

PATTERN

Islamic patterns have a rich history and are deeply rooted in the heritage of the region. Exploring the patterns can spark curiosity, encourage learning, and inspire creativity.

Brief | The main intention of the project was to leave the appearance of the quarry as untouched as possible.

With the respect to nature, the architecture wassupposed to be unnoticeable, as if it is scared of touching the beautiful stone.

Brief | Waking up in the morning with temperatures of -45c, our main concern was to create a really cool school for those kids, a school that would make them eager to get out of their cozy beds everyday and be there even with such a sever climate.
