Our most exciting News! Spring Newsletter

We were thrilled to receive a High Sheriff of Dorset Special Recognition Award at the High Sheriff awards Evening on Wednesday 9th March.

This was presented to us for how much we encapsulate community spirit and our exemplary spirit in ‘Helping each other ’ A huge thank you to our fab member Kate who did an incredible job being our MD for the evening and Colin Weston, Dorset Museum & Art Gallery, West Purbeck Benefice, Dorset.

In her role as Undersheriff of Dorset, Katharine Jones, Partner at HK Law commented: “We are proud to support the work of the High Sheriff, and to help organise and run tonight’s event. It was a pleasure to see so many worthy groups and individuals receiving the recognition that they deserve, and to enjoy the wonderful performance by the Bovington Military Wives Choir.”

We received a lovely message from Caroline Paxton, who is head of the Military Wives Choir Trustees: ‘ Congratulations Bovington Military Wives Choir from the Board of Trustees. It is so nice to see you getting community recognition for the fantastic work that you do, especially as we celebrate International Women’s Day. It is well deserved and nice to see an understanding of what we are about and why we do what we do out there. Really proud to be associated with such a fantastic, supportive group of women.

Following our award acceptance, we treated the recipients and their families to a delightful performance. The audience showered us with a warm ovation and praised our talents highly!

Valentine’s Rehearsal

In our Valentine's rehearsal, love filled the air, Camaraderie and laughter, we all did share, Preparing for events, with passion and glee, Making lasting memories, for all to see.

In harmony we sang, voices blend as one, United in music, together we’re strong, A brief photo shoot, time frozen in a frame, Memories of unity, in our hearts, they'll remain.

Dorset Police Male Voice Choir & Bovington Military Wives Choirs Joint Event

Receiving an invitation to take part in a collaborative event at St John’s Church in Wimborne with The Dorset Police Male Voice Choir to celebrate International Women’s Day was truly an honour for us. This special event was led by both their Musical Director, David Marshall, and our own Musical Director, Sheila Dursley. The invitation came from David, who is the partner of our beloved Choir Sister Wendy, who sadly passed away in January 2023. Wendy is greatly missed by all members of our choir, so being a part of this concert dedicated to her memory was a significant privilege.

The evening was filled with deep emotions as we sensed Wendy’s presence among us during the performance. Wendy’s sister and aunt were also in attendance and were visibly moved by the tribute. The audience gave us a warm standing ovation, showing their appreciation for the joint effort put forthinthisheartfeltperformance

We received this lovely message from the Dorset Police Male Voice Choir’s Musical Director, David Marshall…

Thank you so much for your performance with the choir on Saturday. I was so impressed by the Bovington MWC. The quality of sound, secure pitch and excellent diction just captivated me, and I am sure the audience loved them as much as I did. I congratulate you on a wonderful performance and the high standards that you achieved with the choir.

It was marvellous to see a packed house which would have done wonders for the power of live music. Having said all that, I drove home with mixed emotions and could not put my finger on that until I realised that in a fair world Wendy should have been there singing with your choir. She would have loved it too.

On behalf of the Dorset Police Male Voice Choir and myself, I would be grateful if you would pass on our appreciation to the Bovington Military Wives Choir for their superb performance and for making the concert so special.

Gospel Choir Workshop Spring Newsletter

We had the privilege of being invited to a Gospel workshop hosted by the Salisbury Military Wives Choirs at Bulford Church, a truly beautiful setting with amazing acoustics! Members from various choirs across the South of Dorset attended the event. Guiding us through the workshop was Kim Samuels, who led us with great expertise, accompanied by Nigel Ipinson-Fleming, a remarkable pianist and his talented daughter who delivered a stunning solo performance with our support. It was an unforgettable experience that left a lasting impression on all of us!

Veterans Ball

Spring Newsletter

The Veterans hub, located in Weymouth, recently held their first Veterans Ball. We belted out some tunes before enjoying a delicious evening meal. The night continued with an exciting raffle and an auction featuring a range of treasures.

Dancing kept us going until midnight, and everyone had a fantastic time, especially with our partners by our side. It was a great turnout and a wonderful evening for all who attended!

We were also thrilled to see Helen, who had left for a warmer climate, come and say hello. This surprise was kept a secret, and the joy on the faces of the other members was truly fantastic! Helen was able to sing with us at our performance, just like old times.
