New Generation VAS Shield System Installed

VAS

The new generation This new shield system allows us to get closer to the ideal shape of a helmet.

Throughout our long history, Arai has continually improved the “Glancing off performance by learning from real scenarios. The advanced VAS shield system helps to improve the helmets ability to glance off. In any helmet, regardless of brand, the amount of energy that can be absorbed is limited. Glancing off impacts helps to extend (or maximize) that energy absorbtion capacity in real scenarios. Therefore, Arai has been pursuing a stronger shell and smoother shape that is more likely to glance off impact energy. A small step in the shield mounting mechanism was necessary for the current shield pivot operation. To increase the potential to glance off impact energy, the VAS pivot cover size was reduced and its position on the shell lowered, yeilding an average of an additional 24mm with reference to the test line of the Shell Standard, allowing more of the shell to be smoother within the test lines of the temple area. RX-7 GP

Compared with the shell of the RX-7 GP, the smoother area around the temple was increased by an avarage of 24mm because of the shell modification on the VAS model. Having a larger, smoother shell over a wider area increases the ability to divert more energy.

VAS SHIELD SYSTEM Virtual Track of Axis

Normally the shield mounting position must remain relatively high, because a lower shield pivot will not allow the shield to open or close. The SAI shield system has only a single axis (pivot point) for the shield operation, but VAS has a variable axis (moving pivot point). The shield operation on the VAS model was made possible by combining the Pin trajectory based on an imaginary axis, and the two trajectories of double pivot points. This allows shield opening and closing even with the 24mm lower shield mount postion.

Dual function level releases both the side cover/pod and shield pin for quick & simple shield removal. Being able to see the shield mechanism allows for easier shield changes.

VAS shield latch system captures and holds the shield more securely closed to help prevent unexpected opening. In addition to a demist function, the larger latch design allows for an intuitive and seamless operation of the shield.

PB SNC2 Shell

Super Fiber and other special synthetic fibers, with superb tensil strength and flexabiliity characteristics, developed for F-1 helmet visor panel, assembled and bonded by Arai experts. Such as the steel belts used to hold a barrel together, with a variety of carefully stacked and molded materials. Newly developed resin creates stronger bonds between shell materials with less weight.

Stronger shell advanced by the latest technologies. From extreme ventilation to unmatched comfort, among numerous other advances you expect in our flagship model.

Diffuser Type 12

New Type 12 diffusers are 20mm longer and straightened for improved aerodynamics, working together with the AirWing to improve stability. Compared to the previous Type 10 diffusers, the efficiency of the intake scoops of the new Type 12 diffusers has increased by 19%. The new air intake vents not only have more adjustability with three positions; closed, half open and fully open but also help to improve sealing that decreases wind noise and water intrusion.

Eco Pure Liner

The fully removable interior liner system has been improved with new Eco Pure material, which helps maintain neutral acidity levels close to human skin and antibacterial consumption. With the aim of a softer, deeper and even more comfortable fit we developed a new softer liner frame material. The new liner also has adjustable temple padding that allows for a customized fit.

VAS V MV Shield

VAS MAX Vision shield is standard to provide better visibility in all seasons and for all types of riding. Comes standard with Clear anti-fog Pinlock insert to be installed as needed.

New Generation

VAS Shield System Installed PB-SNC 2 IC Duct5

The new IC Duct5 provides 11% more airflow than the previous Delta Duct5. The new bigger switch makes opening and closing easier. The new IC duct-5 has three positions; closed, half open and fully open to adjust the airflow and prevent water intrusion when fully closed.

Air Channel

Enhanced air exhaust from the eyeport area, guides directly dedicated air channel to side cowl-6.

Full Support Interior

Chin Cover

Attached to the bottom of the helmet, the new chin curtain helps to further accentuate the Egg-shape form. The curtain simulaniously blocks air intrusion from turbulent air below and increases negative pressure to enhance the exhaust function of FFS by drawing more air from the mouth area.

FCS Cheekpad with ear pocket recess for speakers and 5mm peel away layer for added room if needed. Larger space in mouth area for a more open feeling. Smaller NE nozzle without reduced exhaust efficiency. New emergency release tab positioned at the end of the release strap for easier access by rescue staff. Improved comfort performance with better fiting while being easier to put on and off.

What is

Glancing Off? It is the ability to Glance Off objects to avoid sending energy directly into the helmet and instead disperse as much energy as possible without stopping in an actual accident. Arai believes that the ability to glance off energy, without stopping, is one of the most important performance characteristics of a helmet in real world scenarios. A helmet should not just comply with acknowledged laboratory test standards, it should exceed in circumstances and situations outside the ctiteria of those acknowledged standards. Arai believes that the R75 shape concept for our shell construction, which mandates a rounder, smoother shell thus enhancing the ability of the helmet to both disperse and distribute impact energy by learning from real scenarios through our long history.

Drop tests required by laboratory test standards are limited to a vertical fall with the helmet having to accept all of the impact energy directly at one point.

A

However, real scenarios are very different. In actual accident situations, most cases show that helmets hit obstacles at an angle (oblique impact) not vertically. Therefore, during an oblique impact, the point of impact moves as the helmet and obstacle move against each other. This changing impact point increases the helmets ability to better disperse and attentuate impact energy. This is that glancing off. Arai believes that no helmet can manage all potential impact energy, therefore avoiding or diverting potential impact energy with a A B A B C rounder smoother shape should be a key function of a The first impact point As the helmet slides, Throughout the slide the absorbtion helmet.
