amily is the first word that comes to mind when Kim Morgan reflects about the past year. “That is what is in my heart,” she says with a smile. “I just think about what a great year, and the family that we are. Kim Morgan Arabians has become just that: the clients, the staff, my husband, we just all support each other and are there for each other through thick and thin. I really just love that. I have such an immense gratitude for our clients and their commitment to us. They have been with us a lot of years.”

There were a number of shining highlights this year; one of the brightest was the tremendous success at Canadian Nationals, with Kim Morgan Arabians bringing home three National Championships. They included Herb and Karen Meites’ Half-Arabian mare WS Center

The third win was MM Zhivago (Eden C x MM La Bonita) winning National Champion Stallion AAOTH with Patti Meier. In addition, Linda Routledge’s gelding H Justintime H (Enzo x Trejor IA) went Top Ten in both the Open and AAOTH purebred Gelding Championships, rounding out an exceptionally productive time in Brandon, Manitoba.

Another highlight that gives Kim particular pleasure is the performance of her intern Hannah Harrison. As Kim explains, “Hannah’s dad came to me and told me his daughter wanted to learn about horses and the industry. It is a pretty hard thing to take someone and just plunk them into the business, so at first she started with the basics, like cleaning buckets and sweeping up. It just so happens I was recovering from neck surgery at the time, which meant there was a real need for someone to take up the slack. I told her, ‘If you are really ready to learn, let’s do this.’ She stood with me every day and did just that.”

How far Hannah progressed is epitomized by her achievements at Youth Nationals in Albuquerque where she took the lead of two client horses and earned two Top Tens with the Meites’ Half-Arabian mare WS Center Stage and the Routledge’s gelding H JustinTime H. “Herb offered Hannah the opportunity to show his mare, and my first reaction was that she couldn’t do that. She had never been in a class in her life! But as we talked it out, she had been to a lot of shows with me and seen how it all works. The clients provided a pathway for her and I couldn’t be prouder of how well Hannah handled the pressure and her great performances with both horses.”

Also this summer, Kim Morgan Arabians hosted a seminar in June that provided novice and experienced horsemen alike a wonderful opportunity to expand their knowledge. The seminar included an overview of equine photography with master photographer Jerry Sparagowski in which participants learned everything from capturing the right expression to what lenses and shutter speeds are ideal. Kim then hosted an insightful question-and-answer session about common training challenges and how to overcome them. Following her Q & A was a presentation by Kim’s veterinarian husband Jim, who discussed common leg faults and gave a form-to-function demonstration with one of his reining horses.

Following the educational portion there was a presentation of horses, from future prospects to seasoned competitors. Multiple bloodlines were represented, including foals from Enzo, Eden C, Baahir El Marwan, *Besson Carol, DA Valentino, *Pogrom, AO Breeze, and Afires Heir, to name a few. It was a full day of education and fellowship, and the seminar left participants with new insights and appreciation of the Arabian horse, as well as additions to the KMA “family.” And for Kim, that is really what it is all about.
