T

he climb to success for Keith and Maureen Krichke has been a journey of more than 25 years. Together, they have established a business, a family, and many special friendships — all through the Arabian horses they love so much. Krichke Training Center is more than their livelihood — it is their life. From the break of day, until well past the last light of dusk, Keith and Maureen manage the care and training of their clients’ world-class horses.

They have achieved their success through careful planning, hard work, a mutual commitment to integrity,

and the grace of God. Both feel blessed to have worked with some amazing clients over the years, including preeminent Arabian horse breeders, Dr. Lynn Smith and his wife Dr. Dorris Ragsdale of Battle Hill Farm. Keith showed many Battle Hill Farm horses to Scottsdale, Regional, and U.S. and Canadian National championships, including three-time U.S. National Champion Felisha BHF. One of life’s certainties is change. The Krichkes try to look at the changes life brings as new opportunities to learn and grow. When Drs. Smith and Ragsdale shared their plans

to retire from the horses, Keith and Maureen understood it had been a difficult and emotional decision. They asked how they could be of help and how they could create something good from a situation that they considered to be a loss to the Arabian horse community. After many heartfelt discussions, they set to work and assisted their friends in contacting breeders whose programs would benefit most from the champion-producing bloodlines Battle Hill Farm had developed over the past 25 years.

In the course of their efforts, Keith and Maureen considered their own personal goals. Over time, their participation in the Arabian industry has expanded from their training center and outside clients, to include their daughters, who enjoy showing.

They also discovered the immense joy they shared in breeding and raising foals. They began to collect a small, select group of mares, and discussed the possibility of purchasing a stallion they could use to establish their own breeding program.

Keith says, “We knew Beijing BHF was developing into a truly outstanding individual and sire. We agreed he was everything we were looking for in a stallion, and we were already very familiar with him and his extended family. We had spent the last 13 years with his sire, Falcon BHF, his dam, Felisha BHF, and his champion son Grand Commandd whom we bred in partnership with our dear friend Linda Mehney. (Grand Commandd is now owned by our good friends, Dixie and Bob North.) We realized this was it — a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“Now Maureen and I are the proud owners of Beijing BHF. This was the next step for us, personally and professionally.

Although our main focus has been on training and marketing, we know and fully appreciate the valuable contributions breeders have made. We would not have the life we enjoy now if not for the efforts of breeders from around the world — we owe everything we have to them. Now, it’s our turn make our contribution and Beijing BHF will be an important part that effort.”

Beijing BHF is an outstanding individual who has so much to offer breeders. His power and beauty personify his hidden genetic strength. His sire, Falcon BHF (Bey Shah x Bey Serenade SF), carries the legendary champion-siring lines of Bey Shah, *Bask, and *Muscat. Beijing’s dam, the exquisite mare Felisha BHF, and his extraordinary maternal grandam Tevkah, combine the Russian lines of *Muscat, *Salon, Arax, and *Nariadni with the classic Egyptian lines of El Hilal, *Morafic, *Ansata Ibn Halima, Aswan, and of course Nazeer. Beauty and refinement, substance and athletic ability are all present in Beijing BHF. Keith says of the plans he and Maureen have made for their future, “Beijing BHF means so much to us because of our longtime friendship with Lynn and Dorris. We also acquired several mares from their Battle Hill breeding program. The bloodlines these horses carry are truly irreplaceable. We want to preserve them and continue what Dorris and Lynn worked so hard to establish.

“Our goal is to create great quality horses for owners and breeders to use in their own breeding programs. We have a small group of mares, handpicked individuals, that we will breed to Beijing. We currently have a Versace daughter and a Bey Shah daughter in foal to him. Their foals will be made available for purchase. We will continue to promote these and other Beijing offspring in the showring. Also, we hope to offer select mares that are in foal to Beijing.

“You know, our industry has changed quite a bit over the past few years. But Maureen and I have tried to keep our focus on quality, not quantity. We really enjoy working with breeders to create something special and we look forward to that even more in the future. Sharing our love of the Arabian horse with others has been one of our greatest blessings; it seems like the more we give, the more we get. The Arabian horse has truly enriched our lives and that is definitely a blessing worth sharing.”
