Lavinya Laçalvia, A Champion is Born!
At just 16 years old, Lavinya Laçalvia Ferreira made history by winning the gold medal at the Pan-American Endurance Championship. Riding Baruc do Triunfo (*Azhar Du Barthas x Quirina do Bom Viver by RSC El Deb Haran), Lavinya crossed the finish line first after completing the 120 km course held on July 18 at Haras Albar, in Campinas, São Paulo.
The title crowns a meteoric rise for the young rider, who grew up surrounded by horses. Daughter of Monick Laçalvia and Alessandro dos Santos Silva, Lavinya was introduced to the equestrian world when her parents worked at Rancho Parnamirim — known as Anglo Árabes CVV — in Arrozal, Piraí (RJ), owned by Carlos Eduardo Vogas Valença, a nationally recognized breeder and endurance rider.
“Alessandro started working with our horses, both in Halter and Endurance, and stayed at the farm for almost five years. He participated in the Anglo Arab Nationals from 2015 to 2019, winning many trophies. Lavinya, still very young, also started riding here,” recalls Valença.
Since her debut in 2021, Lavinya has competed in 17 events, winning 10 and placing second in three, in addition to three qualification rides.
A turning point came when she was 11, as the family moved to Colônia Witmarsum, Paraná, to work at Haras Triunfo, owned by João Leonel Antocheski. There, Lavinya intensified her training in endurance riding. Alessandro, besides being a horse breaker and trainer, also worked as a farrier and rider, and his daughter began joining him in competitions.
Her first event took place on July 17, 2021: the Triunfo Cup Endurance Ride in Palmeira (PR), covering 40 km on HDM Peregrino Ellpod, while her father rode Vaiolet JLA. Four months later, she was already participating in a major competition — the III International Endurance Festival of Campos Gerais.
On March 18, 2023, Lavinya and Baruc do Triunfo completed their first 80 km ride at the 1st Stage of the São Paulo Championship in Bragança Paulista (SP), qualifying for longer national and international distances. This was also the event that paved the way for the PanAmerican Championship.
“We spoke with Dr. Henrique Garcia to prepare Baruc do Triunfo for the Pan-American. At the same time, we were training his halfbrother HDM Sweet Pallas (*Azhar Du Barthas x
Von Herte Sweet Love by Expoente), a horse I received from my mother and with which I plan to compete in the 2025 Brazilian Championship and aim for a spot on the Brazilian team for the 2027 Pan-American in Uruguay,” says Lavinya.
When she saw her name on the list to represent Brazil’s Young Riders team, Lavinya celebrated: “I’m very happy and proud of the work done by Dr. Henrique Garcia, my father Alessandro, and Aguinaldo dos Santos Pinto, who made this dream come true.”
At the Pan-American, Lavinya led from start to finish. “In the final loop, I started three minutes ahead of Jheniffer do Rocio Silva Lara with RG El Cid. At the first water point, my father encouraged me to increase the pace because Baruc was doing great. In the
Lavinya Laçalvia and HDM Natasha
last kilometer, I slowed down a bit, already six minutes ahead, to preserve my horse. We completed the last loop at 26 km/h and won the gold medal,” she recalls.
The emotion was overwhelming: “Winning a gold medal in my own country, with my family and a huge crowd cheering for me, was pure joy. It’s a moment I’ll treasure forever.”

Brazil Wins Gold at the 2025 Pan American Championships with José Caio and Lavinya
José Caio Frisoni Vaz Guimarães riding Stud Brasil Itajara
Brazil shone at the 2025 Pan American Equestrian Endurance Championships, held on July 18 at Haras Albar in Campinas, São Paulo, winning individual gold medals in the Senior and Young Riders categories. José Caio Vaz Frisoni Guimarães, 24, riding Stud Brasil Itajara (Darike x SN Perestroica by *Farad), was the overall champion in the Senior category. Lavinya Laçalvia Ferreira, 16, secured gold among the young riders with Baruc do Triunfo (*Azhar Du Barthas x Quirina do Bom Viver by RSC El Deb Haran). The Uruguayan team took gold in the team classification.
José Caio’s victory ended an 18-year drought since Brazil’s last individual gold medal in the main category, won by Alexandre “Leco” Razuck with Pantheon HTL (Pantheus Ata x Balmiscar CBL by Al Uaza) at the 2007 Pan American Championships, also held in Campinas, at the Manége Residence.
Both Razuck and José Caio completed the 120 km in similar times. Razuck clocked 5:49:47, with an average speed of 20.70 km/h, while José Caio finished in 5:59:24, with an average speed of 20.12 km/h.
Of the 27 riders who started in the Senior category, only 12 completed the 120km course. After a tight race, José Caio and Stud Brasil Itajara won in a thrilling final sprint against Uruguayans Nicolas Peyronel (riding AR Confianzudo) and Isha Judd (riding Ashva Tigresa), securing the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Santiago Cabrera’s seventh-place finish with Sturnus Roseus secured Uruguay the team gold.
Peyronel finished the race in 5:59:26, and Judd in 5:59:30. Brazilian Felipe de Azevedo Morgulis, with Galadriel SBV (Moscow Endurance x Al Obeyah SBV by RSC El Deb Haran), finished fourth, followed by Ecuadorian Nathalie Weemaels, who competed with RAS Kimba.
“It still feels like a dream, and it’ll take me a while to believe it’s real. I have nothing but praise for my horse, Stud Brasil Itajara. In 2023, at the Pan American 2023 in Chile, we won bronze—the gold was a long shot. Now, on Brazilian soil, we’ve achieved it. This is Brazil’s second gold medal in the individual category, and there are no words to describe how I feel,” declared José Caio.
“It was crazy, decided in the final 45 minutes of the second half. But it was worth every second. I feel like the cheering was all over
Brazil. In previous championships, the gold medal would slip away. This time, it went, and I’m honored that it was mine,” he concluded.
In the Young Riders category, 16-year-old Lavinya Laçalvia Ferreira led from start to finish with Baruc do Triunfo, an 8-year-old Arabian, and won gold with a time of 5:59:24 and an average speed of 20.12 km/h. Silver also went to Brazil, with Jheniffer do Rocio Silva Lara riding RG El Cid (Cáceres CSM x *Endora, by Wojslaw), who finished in 6:23:26, averaging 18.86 km/h.
The bronze medal was won by American Avery Betz-Conway, who rode the Brazilian mare Zendaya Rach (*HS Titian x Zoe Rach, by Mister Eros HX) with a time of 6h24min29s and an average speed of 18.8 km/h. It was the United States’ first medal in the history of the Pan American Championships, since they began to be held in countries in the Americas.
Brazilians Sofia Engels (with Miranda Rach –6h35min18s, 18.29 km/h) and Gustavo Machado Ulsenheimer (with RG Kamen – 6h35min21s, 18.29 km/h) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Ecuadorian Alejandra Davalos Andrade, with Faisal, completed the group of six riders who finished the race.
“Being a Pan American champion is incredible. I’m grateful to my team, to the work of my parents, who work hard every day for me, and to all of Brazil who cheered me on. The trail was great, the horse was perfect. Everything is wonderful. I train every day and ride two horses a day,” said Lavinya, who has been competing for only four years.
“It was the third 120km race I’ve won with Baruc do Triunfo. Today I won my first gold medal and the title of Pan American champion. Now I just have to keep improving and go even further,” she concluded.
At the awards ceremony, in addition to the athletes, the horses Stud Brasil Itajara and Baruc do Triunfo also received the Best Condition award. Topping the event off with a flourish, the Uruguayan team—comprised of Nicolas Peyronel, Isha Judd, and Santiago Cabrera—topped the podium in the Senior Team category.

Dutch Visser is European Champion 2025
Spain Takes Home The Gold For Team
After a thrilling sprint, Dutch rider Marijke Visser claimed the gold medal at the Zigulì FEI Endurance European Championship 2025, held yesterday, June 21st, in Castiglione del Lago, Italy (160 km; 69 starters; 27 ranked).
Riding Chaitana des Chaises, the 32-yearold Visser - who has previously earned multiple medals (including individual silver at the 2014 WEG in Caen and individual silver and team bronze at the 2015 European Championships in Samorin) - secured her first individual gold medal. This victory also marks the Netherlands’ first-ever European title in endurance.
“It was a fantastic competition,” said Visser. “I came to Castiglione del Lago with the goal of winning, and I was able to achieve it thanks to the very cooperative Chaitana des Chaises.”
Visser has been competing in endurance events since she was very young and is the first in her family to pursue equestrian sports.
Looking ahead, she said, “I’ll do my best to win the gold at the next World Championships, whether that’s in 2026 in Al-Ula or in 2028, which I really hope will be held here in Castiglione del Lago, a perfect place for our sport with an amazing organizing committee.”
Competing in her first championship, France’s France Paul finished second riding D’Arohz Rouge du Val.
Gil Berenguer Carrera of Spain took third place riding Jilguero II ex Clavijo de Guad and the ‘Best Condition’ prize.
Spain took the gold medal in the team classification, followed by hosts Italy and the Netherlands, the only team to finish with all four riders, all females – click HERE for the full results.
This is Spain’s seventh team gold medal in the FEI European Endurance Championship roll of honour.
With the team gold medal and Carrera’s individual bronze, Spain won 28 medals in total (team and individual).
Gianluca Laliscia, general sports director of the Zigulì FEI Endurance European Championship 2025, is satisfied: “We are very happy. Yesterday was a wonderful day of sport, but what gratifies us most is the unanimous appreciation we received for the organisation and the highly technical race course. It was also great to see
so many spectators following the competition along the six loops of the course. With this edition, Umbria confirms its vocation for endurance riding at the highest levels.”
Zigulì FEI Endurance European Championship 2025 - Represented nations:
A total of 21 European countries were represented with 69 athletes and 14 national teams: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland.
A
Championship ‘in pink” — and across generations
With 69% of riders being female, the 2025 Championship continues to highlight the strong female presence in this demanding equestrian discipline. There is also a wide range of ages, from 22-year-olds Manuel Maria Avo (POR), Federico Valeri (ITA) and Caterina Coppini (ITA), to Avril Bray (IRL), who is 68 years old and is the oldest rider in the competition.

Legenda: Saif Ahmed Mohammed Ali Almazrouei (UAE) and Bullio Quasillo
The FEI Endurance World Championship for Young Horses took place on Saturday 2nd August 2025 amid the stunning, rolling hills of HauteLoire in Jullianges, France. This prestigious 120-kilometre event gathered 82 of the world’s most promising 8-year-old Endurance horses and their riders to compete over a demanding and varied course that tested endurance, skill, and the unique partnership between horse and rider.
Taking the top spot was Saif Ahmed Mohammed Ali Almazrouei (UAE) aboard Bullio Quasillo, maintaining an impressive average speed of 21.6 km/h. Close behind, Essa Rashed Mohammad Saeed Almazrouei (UAE) secured second place riding Al Fatina, just 45 seconds adrift in his first championship appearance. Rounding out the podium was Sultan Abdulaziz Mayoof Alromaihi (BRN) on Haqtar Du Carrelie, finishing third at 21.1 km/h.
Starting promptly at 7am under misty, fresh skies, the weather gradually warmed to a pleasant 19°C with a gentle breeze — ideal conditions for both equine and human athletes. The ride route wove through a mix of hard rocky tracks, dirt trails, and shaded grass paths beneath a canopy of trees. The terrain was thoughtfully designed with young horses in mind, offering rolling hills to challenge fitness without overly severe obstacles.
Event Director Yves Cuerq commented, “Our goal was a track that was sufficiently technical to challenge the competitors but not so simple as to encourage excessive speeds. With permanent markings and security officers at each junction, safety and clarity were priorities for all.”
The championship showcased remarkable young talent alongside experienced campaigners, each bringing their unique story and determination to the event.
A seasoned competitor, Saif made his 8th appearance at a championship level, having previously won the FEI Endurance World Championship for Young Horses in 2015 and secured a team gold for the UAE at the 2019 Young Riders World Championship. Known for his tactical intelligence and calmness under pressure, Saif maintained a front-pack position throughout
and pushed hard on the final loop to secure first place.
Reflecting on the win, he said: “We are very happy, there was strong competition and the track wasn’t easy. He is a very good horse and I think you will see him again at the World Championship 160km 2026 in AlUla.”
Essa Rashed Mohammad Saeed Almazrouei, just 15 years old, delivered an extraordinary performance for a first-time championship rider. Having only begun FEI Endurance competitions in 2024, Essa finished a close second riding the French mare Al Fatina, trailing Saif by just 45 seconds. Essa’s rapid rise marks him as one to watch in future Endurance events.
Third place was secured by Sultan Abdulaziz Mayoof Alromaihi (BRN), aged 18 riding Haqtar Du Carrelie. The Sultan showcased both maturity and speed, finishing third with an average speed of 21.1 kmph.
He previously earned a team gold medal for Bahrain at the FEI Endurance World Championship for Young Riders in 2023 and is fast becoming a key figure in Bahraini Endurance.
Just outside the top three was Lea Vandekerckhove (FRA), 23 years old, who impressed the home crowd aboard her homebred mare Alsafa Du Lauragais. Lea’s tactical ride management saw her start aggressively but then slow to preserve her mare’s wellbeing — a decision that earned her a strong fourth place finish.
After winning the 2024 test event, Lea showed both ambition and care: “I tried to run for first place starting the ride, but I slowed down at the third loop to preserve my mare and finish the ride at her pace. I am so happy because I bred this mare. I don’t know what will be next for her, but I will check firstly that she is in good shape tomorrow morning, and then we will see. As for me, my next ride is on Monday right here on the 160km with another horse from my family breeding, Chip du Lauragais, and then on Tuesday in the 100km too!”
In the team competition, the United Arab Emirates secured the Gold medal with four of their five combinations successfully completing the ride. The team featured an impressive line-up: Saif Ahmed Mohammed Ali Almazrouei aboard Bullio Quasillo, Essa Rashed Mohammad Saeed Almazrouei riding Al Fatina, Rashed Saeed Hamad Saeed Alketbi on Heracles Feuillee, and Ali Abdulla Ali Bin Zayed Alfalasi with Habanita Valarbin AA.
The Silver medal went to Bahrain, whose team consisted of Sultan Abdulaziz Mayoof Alromaihi on Haqtar Du Carrelie, Fahad Helal Mohamed Al Khatri riding Hacour La Majorie, and Faisal Hameed Dakeel Al Anezi aboard Heracles de Suleiman.
Host nation France earned the Bronze team medal with a strong performance from Lilou Tomas Arnaud on Hashtag du Mas, Mathieu Rousseaux riding Himazziz Milin Riant, and May Manifacier aboard Hurkie de Coussergues.
Italy finished in 4th place and Spain took 5th, rounding out the top five teams in this highly competitive championship.
Horse welfare remained a paramount focus throughout the event. The FEI Veterinary Commission, led by Dr. Sarah Coombs and Dr. Carlos Javier Ponferrada Abrisqueta, operated nine veterinary inspection lines and a Recovery Area equipped with iced water tanks for rapid cooling.
Dr Coombs stated, “I was very pleased with the veterinary team’s care of these exceptional young horses. The course was tough, and we
reminded riders of their responsibility for the vet inspection outcome. We took great care to protect the wellbeing of all competitors.”
Jullianges, backed by passionate local support, will continue to be a hub for Endurance events, confirmed as host for the FEI Endurance European Championship for Young Riders in 2026. Yves Cuerq reflected, “Our community has embraced Endurance wholeheartedly. Hosting the world’s best young horses and riders was a dream comes true.”
FEI President Ingmar De Vos praised the riders’ commitment and the event organisers said: “I thank all riders, breeders, trainers, officials, and volunteers who made such a championship possible. Their dedication nurtures the future stars of Endurance.”
Rach Stud International Cup 2025
Jose Geraldo da Costa Moreira Filho, rider from the State of Rio de Janeiro riding Thorin Gy (*Azhar Du Barthas x Polaca Rach), claimed his first CEI3* 160 km victory at the Rach Stud International Cup, held on Saturday, May 31, at Ilha da Chapada, in the State of Minas Gerais, home of Rach Stud.
The well-planned trails and excellent vet check facilities were highly praised by all competitors, alongside the breathtaking landscapes of the river island, where all riders and their teams were hosted at the farm for four to five days.
The rider from Paraná, João Pedro Bornia Antocheski, aboard RG Koral (Cáceres CSM x Canela CSM), and São Paulo’s representative, André Vidiz, riding Inglaterra Endurance (*Tatum Des Graves x Kilina HVP), finished in second and third place respectively.

Winner of last year’s CEIYR2* 120 km, Gustavo Machado Ulsenheimer once again took first place, this time with Épico Rach. The young rider from São Paulo, Eli Peres Steinbruch, finished second with João Endurance (*Saad Ibn Syed x Maria Endurance), which secured his qualification for the Young Riders World Championship in Romania.
On Friday, May 30, the Jamil Saliba Cup (CEI1* / CEIYR1* 100 km; CEN 80 km Senior, Young Rider, and Junior) was held in honor of the patriarch of the Saliba family and founder of Rach Stud Agropecuária Ltda.
Representing Minas Gerais, Tiago Manetta Bicalho de Lana, riding Dora TRIO (Dormane x RT Crysti), won the CEI1\* 100 km Senior category,
Jose Geraldo da Costa Moreira Filho and Thorin Gy
followed by Isabela Brandão Gois with Frozen TRIO (*Exceptionn x Favorita D’Jok TRIO) and Bruno Policastro with Carceres BV. In the CEI1* 100 km Young Rider, João Vitor Bagarolli Rodrigues and RSC Derek (Darike x Traviatta SBV) took the victory, followed by Gustavo Machado Ulsenheimer and Cimerio Rach (Mister Eros HX x Canntada Rach) in second place.
Beyond the races, the Saliba family hosted a warm social gathering with soccer, fishing, boat rides, swimming in the dam, dinners, and even
horse presentations from the stud, making the Rach Stud International Cup a truly unique competition, unlike any other in the world, and establishing it as one of the great endurance events of the year, according to riders, teams, and families present.
“It was fantastic to welcome a group of athlete friends and their families. We had around 150 people, with over 100 staying or camping at the stud”, said Ricardo Saliba, race organizer and owner of Rach Stud and Ilha da Chapada.

Founded in 2004, Haras Trio was born out of a passion for endurance riding. This enthusiasm began in 2002, when Renato Salvador was introduced to the sport by a friend, veterinarian Dr. Antônio Roberto Pereira (Espigão).
“I fell in love during the very first race I competed in and never stopped. Those were two intense years of competitions and learning about endurance and the Arabian horse, which soon involved the whole family. In 2004, my children Renata and Rafael also started in the sport,” recalls Salvador.
Located in Confins (MG), just minutes from Belo Horizonte/Confins International Airport – Tancredo Neves, Haras Trio offers infrastructure both for housing horses and for hosting endurance events.
From the very beginning, the priority was to build a solid breeding program, with broodmares of proven sport genetics, such as SM La Turca, *Naisika Hypolite (Adame de Sauveterre x Naima El Faysettes by Persik), RT Crysti (Nawwak NA x *Zaira by Awad), Frontera Endurance (Led-
hyr NA x Java Beauty by Michelet), in addition to mares acquired from the traditional breeder Waldemar Neme, from Londrina, Paraná. The use of semen from the legendary stallion Dormane (Manganate x Mandore by Grabiec) produced the first Trio broodmares, including Crys Trio (x RT Crysti by Nawwak NA), Pompeya Trio ( x WN Pompeya by *Pepi), and Dojour Trio (x WN Belle de Jour by *Ibn Bandos).
The next step was choosing a lead stallion. In 2012, Haras Trio imported *D’Jok Py (Djebel Lotois x Keniah by Kesberoy) from France, a descendant of Zulus and Tidjani and bred by Pierre-Yves Juillard. He quickly became the farm’s main sire, passing on a strong sporting aptitude to his offspring. Among his most notable progeny are Conan D’Jok Trio (x RT Crysti by Nawwak NA), an international winner, and Allure BV (*Arzade Cabirat), the Brazilian record-holder over 1000m on turf.
The farm’s strategy is clear: to combine *D’Jok Py with mares of proven performance, producing horses with high competitive potential. This selection has yielded key broodmares, such as
Nona D’Jok Trio (x *Naisika Hipolyte x Adame de Sauveterre), Favorita D’Jok Trio (x Frontera Endurance by Ledhyr NA), and Fênix D’Jok Trio (x Frontera Endurance by Ledhyr NA).
Today, the breeding program also incorporates stallions from renowned bloodlines, such as *Uzbec Du Lion (Dormane x Uline Du Rolon by Mabrouck), Sadepers (Persik x Sada Bint Moulouki by Moulouki), Zerox TE (Chip Chase Sadada x Aloha Zariba by Aloha ZAR), *Azhar du Barthas (Khadar x Djouzula by Zulus), and *Exceptionn (*Exceladdinn x Unique Hope by *High Hopes), further expanding the genetic base of the herd.
The Salvador family’s journey in the sport has been marked by achievements. His son, Rafael Sabino Salvador, was part of Brazilian teams in World and Pan-American Endurance Championships, winning the bronze medal at the 2005 World Championship for Young Riders and Juniors in Bahrain. Renato Salvador, in turn, has accumulated significant international results: team silver and a Top 10 fwinish at the World Endurance Championship in Pisa (Italy, 2021);
sixth place in the 160 km ride of AlUla (Saudi Arabia, 2024) with Uzes Trio (*Uzbec Du Lion x WN Bint Rihanat); and champion of the CEI2* 120 km Rach Stud International Cup (2024) with Logan D’Jok Trio (*D’Jok Py x SM La Turca).
Haras Trio is not limited to endurance. More recently, it has also invested in racing at the Jockey Club of São Paulo *Cromo D’Jok Py and Allure BV, always with the same focus: breeding high-performance horses. The results are already reflected in victories in Brazil, Europe, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. In 2024, for example, La Tâche Trio (*D’Jok Py x SM La Turca), ridden by Mônica Graziano, finished sixth in the demanding 160 km ride in AlUla.
With winning horses across three continents, more than 20 horses in training worldwide, and new foals born each year, Haras Trio remains steadfast in its mission: to breed the world’s best endurance horses, investing in top genetics, skilled people, rigorous training, discipline, focus, and, above all, courage.

Al Ghadeer continues domination of Arabian division
Al Ghadeer is on track for his third successive Doha Triple Crown after edging out Ch’ezza in the first leg, the £400,000 G1 Qatar International Stakes.
Sent off the 1/7 favourite on his return from a break, Al Ghadeer took some time to warm to his task under Christophe Soumillon, but the Francois Rohaut-trained six-year-old managed to get the better of his stablemate in the final half-furlong.
Al Ghadeer has now won 10 G1 races for purebred Arabians, including this race three times, and is regarded by many as the best purebred Arabian of all time.
The Doha Triple Crown continues with the
G1 Arabian World Cup at Longchamp, France, in October and Qatar’s G1 HH The Amir Sword in February.
Rohaut said: “That was expected because the fourth Rajaaz is a good horse on his day, but what was important was to see the three old boys running their best.
“Ch’ezza gave a good challenge to Al Ghadeer. It is always difficult not running between Doha and today, which is five months. It is too much. We don’t have any race for him in the spring and he is getting old and a bit lazy maybe.
“It is so easy for Al Ghadeer that he relaxes a lot. Now he will have a prep in Longchamp at
the beginning of September before the big one at the Arc meeting in October.
“He has won races in three different countries – one in July, one in October and one in February – and at different distances, a mile, a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half. He has won on soft ground like it was here two years ago and on firm in Doha.
“He has got everything and is qualified as a champion. You don’t see a horse like that every year. I will not train an Arabian horse as good as him. He is probably the best Arabian horse ever. He is complete. He will do anything you ask him, and he is sound. He has never had any problems.
‘‘Ch’ezza will only have one more run and then go to stud. I am very happy for him. He is also a special horse. He gives his best every time and his breeding is fantastic. The breeders will be happy to have such a nice horse as a stallion in France.’’
Soumillon said: “I was expecting to win more easily than that, but I had to give him a smack in the end and I would have preferred not to. Ch’ezza was in great shape today, so we had to
ask a bit more of Al Ghadeer to win the race, but he’s still an amazing horse to win a big race like that again first time out this season.
“I always try to ride him as if it’s a prep race, because there’s always a big target for his next step, so I try to keep some fuel in the tank for the future – that’s why he was nearly beaten first time out. All I know is that when I asked him to quicken, the horse beside me gave another turn of foot. Ch’ezza is a very good horse when he’s in top shape and I think today he was. He was the one other horse in the race with a high handicap rating and the rest of the field was really under.
“The most important thing today was winning the race, for sure, but also to give him a nice race, and still teaching him to be quiet in the running because before he was sometimes very keen. Today he was really professional. He always does amazing things, and that’s why he’s probably the best Arabian horse we’ve seen on a racetrack. We had to work a little bit harder today, but he’s still an amazing horse to ride.”

RB Mary Lylah (Al Mourtajez), fresh from her breakthrough at the top level in the Gr.1 (PA) Liwa International Stakes at La Teste, confirmed her excellent form by winning the Gr.3 (PA) UAE President Cup at Istanbul Veliefendi in Turkey on Sunday, 7 September. In a race led by Kocek (Kaizbert), RB Mary Lylah travelled in fifth, racing two wide. Positions remained unchanged until the final bend, where she began to improve. Turning for home, she was carried out wide by Tuncer (Kaizbert), who drifted left, but she was still travelling easily, her jockey yet to ask for any effort. Once given the signal, she quickly surged to the front inside
the final 300m and went clear under a handsand-heels ride, scoring by a dazzling 7 lengths margin. Kati Zamani (Kati Semih) finished second, while Kralkarinka (Gursu) took third.

time by jockey João Moreira, moved into second place and began closing in on the leader.
In the final 200 meters, Monsenhor Rach launched his attack from the outside, drew level, overtook Cromo D’Jok Trio, and crossed the finish line ¼ length ahead, completing the 2,000 meters on turf in 2:19.430.
Trained by Lucas Quintana—the race’s honoree—Monsenhor Rach became the first horse to win five consecutive Arabian races in Brazil.
“Monsenhor is having an outstanding campaign, performing better and better even with increasingly heavier handicaps. He broke the 2,000-meter record in the previous race and won this one just five thousandths of a second slower. He’s one of the best horses with the letter M from Rach Stud that I’ve ever trained.
This victory made an already happy week even more special for me, as I was deeply honored by ABCCA’s tribute with a race named after me—and won by a horse I train,” said trainer Lucas Quintana.
Ricardo Jamil Saliba, breeder and owner of Rach Stud, also celebrated the win: “It was an exciting race. Cromo D’Jok Trio’s jockey used an excellent strategy that significantly improved the horse’s performance compared to the previous race, making things very difficult for Monsenhor Rach. This really added to the thrill of the finish and highlighted the value of
Monsenhor’s victory. As race enthusiasts, we’re always happy to see a balanced competition. We believe Monsenhor Rach is at the peak of his career. In July, he’s expected to compete in the National Arabian Horse Grand Prix, which will likely be his last race. Our plan is to move him into breeding and, eventually, into endurance riding.”
The Lucas Quintana Handicap was organized by the Brazilian Association of Arabian Horse Breeders (ABCCA) in partnership with the Jockey Club of São Paulo.

VG Raj Al Mared Seals Tenth Career Win in the National Arabian Horse Grand Prix
After a year away from competition, seven-year-old grey VG Raj Al Mared made a dazzling comeback, scoring a front-running victory in the National Arabian Horse Grand Prix on July 12, 2025, at Cidade Jardim Racecourse in São Paulo. The race was staged by the Brazilian Association of Arabian Horse Breeders (ABCCA) in partnership with the São Paulo Jockey Club.
Contested over 1,800 meters on turf to horses aged three and up, the race had been billed as a clash of titans. For the first time, VG Raj Al Mared (Mared Al Sahra x Daughter of Just HVP by FA El Shawan), trained by Thiago Haidar, lined up against the unbeaten Monsenhor Rach (Seraphin Du Paon x Musa Rach by *Polonez), a five-time winner trained by Lucas Quintana.
Ridden with confidence by jockey Jeane Alves, Raj went straight to the front and dictated the pace throughout. In the final furlong, Monsenhor Rach, piloted by Altair Domingos, launched a powerful challenge on the outside and briefly looked set to snatch the lead. But Raj dug in gamely, holding on by a head at the wire to secure his tenth victory from 11 career starts.
The contest for third place was decided between two runners from the Haidar team: the grey mare Allure BV (*D’Jok PY x *Arzade by Cabirat), ridden by Ruberlei Viana, and her younger half-brother Cromo D’Jok Trio (*D’Jok PY x RT Crysti by Nawwak NA), ridden by Valdir Souza.
“VG Raj Al Mared closed a remarkable chapter at Cidade Jardim,” said trainer Thiago Haidar. “After a year on the sidelines, he returned, won, and reached his tenth career victory. Even without retiring unbeaten, with 11 races and 10 wins, he proved himself, in my opinion, the best Arabian horse to run in São Paulo over the past 12 years. Monsenhor Rach, another outstanding horse, pushed him to the limit, but
Raj showed his class and delivered a thrilling win. I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Henrique Garcia for his veterinary care, to lady jockey Jeane Alves, who has tidden him since his debut race, and farrier Raul Pirano; and congratulate José Carlos and José Caio Vaz Guimarães for breeding him — and for trusting me with his training.”

Emir Sahara is Crowned Champion Stallion in Brazil
With cultural attractions, international competitions, and the presence of breeders from several countries, the 44th Brazilian National Arabian Horse Show was held from July 9 to 14 at the Helvetia Riding Center in Indaiatuba (SP). The show went far beyond competitions, offering a program that blended sport, culture, business, and unique experiences for breeders, investors, and visitors.
Organized by the Brazilian Association of Arabian Horse Breeders (ABCCA), the event brought together the leading names of the breed in the country and attracted competitors and Arabian horse enthusiasts from different parts of the world. With the theme All the Colors of Our Brazi”, the show highlighted Brazil’s cultural diversity and created a welcoming atmosphere for families and breed enthusiasts alike.
The 44th National Arabian Horse Show featured, for the first time, the presence of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Nasser Al Thani of Qatar, CEO of the Global Champions Arabians Tour (GCAT). Breeders from seven Brazilian states participated, along with representatives from Uruguay, Chile, and Ecuador, who entered their horses
in Halter and Performance competitions. The high-level infrastructure, combined with cultural diversity and the outstanding quality of the horses, ensured the event’s media impact and public success, drawing around 2,000 visitors per day.
In the arena, the contests took place in Halter, Liberty, and the various Performance riding styles, judged by an international panel composed of Francisco José Rego (Brazil), Glenn Schoukens (Belgium), Jeffrey Schall (USA), Ted Carson (USA), and William Oppen (Argentina). Beyond the competitions, the public also enjoyed the Patron’s Parade — an exclusive showcase of high-genetic horses for commercial purposes — as well as cultural attractions and social areas designed to encourage interaction among breeders, investors, and visitors.
“We prepared an engaging, joyful, and memorable event. The National Show is a showcase of Brazilian genetic excellence, but also a space of celebration and connection for everyone who lives and loves the Arabian Horse,” said Francisco Carrasco, ABCCA president.
