My contribution

An Architect, passionate & compassionate to design and shape dreams to reality. Aspiring to learn more, do more and deliver more. Involvement in vivid scales and various project typologies has built a strong skill in team work and project management. From conceptualization to implementation, I have had the chance to work in various roles of projects at different stages, knowing how design to detail is essential for an organization.

Claridge way in Thamesmead needed a rejuvenating public space in response to the people and the context. Adapting a live project, the key stakeholder considered here were the school students of this area. The research and proposal of this project are studied through the lens of Henri Lefebvre’s concept of conceived, perceived and lived spaces. Source : Vignesh Subramaniam Public square view

The project was studied through the lens of conceived, perceived and lived spaces. Where conceived spaces was a group research on the design and social analysis, perceived spaces trickled down to individual work, interacting with students as key stakeholders and lived spaces were the individual design proposal for the site. The idea to incorporate community involvement and integrating people’s requirements in the site were the main focus of this project. Presenting at Peabody Super Crit

Some strategies proposed revolved around resolving issues for the large footprint of existing buildings in the area of Grangetown. The intention was to develop a social cohesion through these strategies to enhance the living conditions of the streets and support the reduction in energy consumption of the old buildings.

The understanding of policies, governance, the council and settlement methods in this area were the key topics studied as a group of four in analyzing the area of Grangetown. Interestingly the two verticals covered in depth are Housing Finance and Design of the structures, spaces and places. This required a combined effort in both analyzing and proposing financial strategies along with the design proposal. Other dynamic verticals covered by other members of the group also included policies, demography and history. Housing typology graph

THEME 3 - POLICIES AND POLITICS

Initially the idea was to study in depth, only certain small pockets of a specific neighbourhood called Grangetown in Cardiff to understand the physical attributes such as space, scale, planning and zoning. Through the lens of these topics it was easy to unwrap the layers and see how the design as an outcome has emerged in its pragmatic form.

To create an international platform for training the athletes and providing world class infrastructure for sports was the vision of this project. The involvement of Legends from different sports has shaped this dream into reality. The complete facility contains a FIFA standard football field, Olympic size pool, regular and quick-start Tennis courts, Six Professional and Ten training Badminton indoor courts, a Hundred meters athletic track, two Basketball court and a standard cricket field. Over the entire development the football gallery building, consisting of a fifty seater restaurant, a standard kitchen, couple of change rooms, public washrooms, servant quarters for all staff and an office space for the football facility, was completely designed and built as per my design. My major part of the project however was generating drawings, 3D visuals, site co-ordination, vendor negotiations, client meeting, managing sub contracts and branding of the project. The overview and complete supervision of rest of the facilities from detailed works to managing interior works was bestowed on me by my organization for execution.

A combination of different ticket prices under affordable standards without any compromise on comforts way key in this project. With the units totaling close to sixteen hundred was a challenge in terms of a dense occupation. The crux was to make feel space along with luxury. The design in finding a solution through the floor plan was essential to ensure privacy, light and ventilation to all units across the development. The units were standardized into modular systems for easy execution. Source : Space Matrix View

Clubhouse design proposal

The second phase of the project is where my involvement was demanded. The two remaining towers ‘A’ and ‘E’ along with the clubhouse attached to one of them was designed with two and three bedroom units. These two new towers were tailored for a better core efficiency in order to accommodate larger footprint as against the phase one towers. This also required a change in the facade design and a suitable clubhouse design for the residents. 3 Bhk unit

Terrain was the challenge in this project, located in the vicinity of one of the oldest rock formations in India the government planned to extend the academia into this vital location. A huge sustainable development was due in designing in such a hot and dry condition. Using the natural terrain for climate response architecture was necessary at every level of detail. The project was awarded by winning the competition to secure the full fledged development in various stages of execution. Source : Space Matrix Aerial view

This project was pitched out for a competition and my involvement was in designing the facades, plans and working on the master planning of the entire campus. With the challenges faced in the terrain, I closely worked with the sustainable team to come up with solutions for climate response design solutions. My key role was supporting the design team and liaising with sustainable and landscape team to ensure the completion of the project submission. Facade treatment

Located on the west coast line of India facing the Arabian sea, the project demanded an extension for accommodating more units towards the sea front. Three unit typologies were designed in order to resonate the existing cottage types but were meant for a more elite crowd. The terrain was exploited for viewpoints and allowing each units to hold their privacy intact. Being an intervention project the challenges were more towards responding to context.

A luxury resort group was looking for more luxury cottages to be added in their existing development. My role was in deciphering the existing typology of units and designing a new luxurious cottage typology in response to the surrounding types. The cluster arrangement, landscape and orientation of built forms were also a few contributions made by my inputs. Cottage 3

The need for commercial, residential and the metro station, all in one site was very complex to design a solution. However a successful design was chalked out to accommodate all three functions along with the existing shopping mall and residential complex in the adjacent site. The entire project is located in one of the busiest locations of the city. Placed on the node of a critical junction the traffic networking around the site and managing to filter people and vehicular segregation was a difficult challenge.

Facade design for commercial and residential towers

I got into the project only after the entire master plan was chalked, approved and when the construction began. My involvement was in refining the interior spaces, co-ordination with vendors, making detail drawings, and service co-ordinations at site. The facade design options also involved my design contributions along with the specifications of the interior materials for the residential and commercial towers. Residential entry

Identifying a potential growth in the city, the city council decide to expand and redesign some major pockets both inside and outside the city area. The proposal was more towards redesigning and redeveloping certain critical pockets of the city for rework. A large part of the brief was to chalk out policies tailoring to the inherent culture and ensure the community acceptance for the same.

The involvement was largely to propose start points in the city for suitable interventions and propose the policies for changing the same. The task required my understanding of these locations and suggesting suitable solutions along with the planners and urban designers of the city of Mangaluru.

This project proposal was for a competition project for the new headquarters of Ministry of Information in Muscat. The brief was to follow the hierarchy of the organization frame work and hence was the driving factor for the design. The entire program and spatial organization within the built form responded to the hierarchy of public to private office interfaces right from ground to the above levels. Source : Space Matrix View

From people management, designing, handling deliverables and putting together the entire presentation was handled by me for this project. An intense two weeks worth of work from inception to proposal was submitted with the help of my team and team lead’s guidance. With full support from my organization the project turned out to be successful to our satisfaction making it one of the most significant learning curve in my growth. Climate response

A proposal for the second stage of the metro link was planned for in this site location in Thannisandra, Bengaluru. Justifying and building on the same grounds I took this project to establish a multi-modal transit hub in my undergraduate thesis semester. The entire facility supported metro link, a bus station and depot along with a public parking area. The benefits for the community were brought in by establishing a public park, a market, office spaces and recreational activities. Source : Vignesh Subramaniam View

The details needed for this project had to be extracted from the government officials of the metro and bus authorities. The overall survey and understanding for extrapolating the brief was quite a task. This involved a public feedback for narrowing down the requirements for the people in the vicinity. The idea was to propose similar such establishments across the city for ease of networking for any growing metropolitan. This could create a paradigm shift in easing the busy functioning of the city.
