Over recent years, lighting technology and know-how has developed at a fantastic rate and a wide range of wet leisure facilities have benefited from the advances that have been made. he latest lighting solutions are enhancing the interiors and exteriors of many new pool and spa builds across the country and have meant refurbishments can literally be seen in a new light. Thanks to truly innovative technologies and products that are highly energy efficient, it’s a sector that is providing illuminating ideas for projects of all sizes and is a sector that is going from strength-to-strength. The days when pool and spa lighting consisted of nothing more than plain, functional white lights with the occasional coloured filter thrown in for good measure are fortunately, long gone. fittings, styles and variations just keeps on growing. Light Emitting Diode (LED) and fibre optics are the professionals’ choice for spas, swimming pools and exterior lighting and LEDs look set to continue to lead the way as the preferred lighting option. They operate differently to traditional incandescent style lights as instead of using a brittle metal filament that is susceptible to shock and vibration, LEDs are solid-state devices with no moving parts and use an electronic chip in an epoxy substrate. Due to the endless options available, pool lights have the advantage of enhancing decking, water features, paths and other outside spaces too. A modern mix of cleverly

installed lighting can provide dramatic effects or be used to soften walls and outdoor finishes. Whole areas can be improved with thoughtful and imaginative lighting, providing both safety and style to complement the surroundings, and we take a closer look at just some of the options that are brightening up the market.
