Regular testing of pool and spa water is important to maintaining proper balance for crystal-clear water, prevent damage to equipment and surfaces, protect swimmers from potentially harmful microorganisms and ensure swimmer comfort.
Swimming pools: At least 2x a week
When the pool is not in regular use, test a minimum of twice a week. Run the pump for one hour before testing. When the swimmer-load increases, testing more often is necessary to make sure that the water is in balance. Also test more frequently after environmental changes (when it rains, when leaves get in the pool, or when your dog goes for a swim). These conditions will deplete the sanitizer level and alter other parameters of the water balance more rapidly.
Spas: Before and after each use
Imbalances can occur quickly in spas. If chlorine or bromine has been added recently, make sure it has mixed thoroughly with the water before testing.
Remember, it’s easier to make slight adjustments to water balance on a regular basis rather than having to restore water that is outside the safe parameters.

Prevent/Troubleshoot Algae Problems by Testing for Phosphates
One-Minute Phosphate
Even low levels of phosphate can lead to algae in your pool or spa. This test uses powder pillows and vials, which offer increased sensitivity at the lower ranges and are less susceptible to damage by heat and humidity.
High Range Phosphate
This quick and easy test is ideal for use when phosphate levels are high. This will help you determine which phosphate treatment removal methods are appropriate for your pool.
Sodium Bromide
Sodium Bromide titrators allow you to measure sodium bromide with greater precision than dip-and-read test strips, simplifying water testing for systems using bromide generators. The titrators yield accurate results in 3-5 minutes.
Copper
Copper is another common water contaminate that can cause staining, water discoloration, and particle build up on metal fixtures and plumbing. Avoid these problems by detecting up to 3 ppm with AquaChek Copper test strips.
Iron Kit

Borate
Borate works as a buffer to help control pH, aid in algae prevention, and contribute to water clarity and a softer feel of the water. Use this test to make sure borate levels are in range.
High Range Chlorine
The High Range Chlorine test strip is useful for determining when chlorine is in excess of 10 to 20 ppm in pools and hot tubs. It can also be used in applications where sterilization and disinfection is required, measuring up to 600 ppm.
Total Hardness
Prevent corrosive and scale-forming water by testing for total hardness. The AquaChek Total Hardness test strip measures calcium and magnesium, the two minerals that primarily make up hardness in water.
Total Dissolved Solids
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) is the measure of everything that has dissolved in the water over time. High TDS contributes to cloudy water, which makes it difficult to balance chemicals and can lead to increased chlorine usage.
Cyanuric Acid
This is a stand-alone specialty test for cyanuric acid (stabilizer). An ideal level of cyanuric acid will make chlorine more stable when exposed to UV rays.
Nitrate/Nitrite
High nitrate levels promote bacteria growth and will increase chlorine demand. This specialty product for pool professionals gives results for nitrate/ nitrite levels in less than a minute.
