Spotlight on the refugee crisis For the last 2 years Europe has experienced the greatest mass movement of people since the Second World War. More than 1 million refugees and migrants have arrived in the European Union, the large majority of them fleeing from war and terror in Syria and other troubled countries. The EU has agreed on a range of measures to deal with the crisis, including steps to relocate asylum seekers already in the EU, resettle people in need from neighbouring countries and return people who don’t qualify for asylum. Last week the European Commission published the ‘Ninth report on relocation and resettlement’, which provides an updated state of play and assesses the actions undertaken by all relevant stakeholders to deliver on the commitments under the relocation and resettlement schemes. The topic of migration was also discussed during the 121st plenary sesssion of the European Commitee of the Regions. Following these developments, the Publications Office presents a selection of related information on the refugee crisis and migration in general.
