A word from the Competitions Board....

Dear Members,

The past two junior seasons has seen plenty of confusion and frustration from members around the current rules for the 12 and under barrel racing event

The Competitions Board of Directors have had many of discussion around the event over the past couple of months including liaising with members, affiliates, APRA office staff and Executive Directors to gain feedback, and finally arriving at a decision that best suits the Association

Whilst there were some benefits to the event, the issues, problems, variables and negatives outweighed those benefits

Accordingly for the 2023/2024 season the 12 and Under barrel race will not be included as a championship points event. The junior barrel race will continue to have a bonus paid as per rule

26205 In junior events a bonus will be paid to the highest placed competitor who had not turned 13 years of age prior to the commencement of the point year

Bonus will not be paid if an eligible member places in the official placings. Bonus to be 2 times the add back amount but not more than the lowest placed prizemoney Judges and secretary must be notified on the day prior to the event for child to be eligible for the bonus (therefore it is the parents responsibility to notify the judges/secretary on the day of the rodeo if their child is eligible)

The Competitions Board advises that this event will be discussed at the AGM when all members are in attendance, and suggests that if members wish this event to return to championship points, that a motion be put forward at the AGM, including a recommended full set of rules that are in line with APRA’s other championship events (ie dollars not points system) and considers ruling/restrictions around two separate ages groups for the barrel race going forward

Whilst the Board recognises some members will not agree with their decision, please understand that all Directors only have what’s best for the Association at heart, and making tough decision is part of their role

ATTENTION ALL BARREL RACERS!

Competitors, it is the responsibility of the last 2 barrel racing competitors in that section to mark the barrel course, at least 1hr prior to the 1st section or you will be fined $50 each on the 1st occasion. if there is a 2nd occasion that competitors do not fulfil this responsibility the fine will increase to $100. Day members excluded.

Competitors, it is your responsibility to know who you are roping with and what head of stock you are to compete on BEFORE you walk into the arena to make your run Please ensure you check the draws posted at the secretary’s box on the day Team ropers, please ensure you have your partners organised and know which head of stock you are running on with each partner

ANIMAL WELFARE

Its

timely to remind all competitors, committees, and stock contractors about their responsibilities around animal welfare and strictly following codes of practice

Our sport is constantly scrutinised so we must always be on the fore front Jason Bode of Queensland Biosecurity has recently been in contact with our Board of Directors to remind APRA of our responsibilities and raised concern over some practices that are not acceptable His concerns were tail twisting of timed event cattle He urged APRA to make sure that anyone involved in helping with running cattle at a rodeo, whether it be contractors, competitors helping out or committee volunteers, be aware that it is not acceptable to twist the tails of livestock at any time

Competitors it’s your sport – if you witness this happening, please immediately notify the judge and the Director of that event to act immediately!

Late entries are taken Friday 9am to 4pm and Monday 9am to 12 noon unless stated differently below If there are more than 12 in an event, a late fee of $50 applies 12 noon Monday is the absolute latest to enter, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will further entries be taken after this time. The only exception is if there’s less than 12 in an event.

In case of a dispute on your entry, all entry calls will be recorded You will be given a call back number which you should keep as your confirmation of your entry. This number will be needed if you claim a mistake has been made with your entry.

All contestants must have a zero balance in order to enter rodeos. If you have unpaid fees you are currently ineligible to be put in a draw
