We have lined up lots of great sewing classes and special events to keep you busy this fall. Our new fall class schedule begins on the next page with 62 fun sewing classes including 30 new ones. This handy pencil bag is fast, fun and easy! It will easily clip to your backpack or belt. Use this fun bag to carry pencils, pens, and other important stuff! This is a great beginner class. The class fee includes the cost of project supplies and pattern. Fee $25.

PJ Pants & Bag .... with Beth A. 10:00 – 3:00 PM

This easy to sew PJ pants and bag pattern is perfect for the beginner (12 years or older) or even the seasoned sewer. This class will take your child’s sewing to the next level as they learn to make these super comfy pajama pants! Everyone loves cozy pj pants whether they’re made from cotton or soft flannel. The bag is super easy and the perfect accessory to take on over nighters or just about anywhere! Your child will have fun sewing with Beth for the day. The sense of achievement will keep them wanting to sew more and more! Fee $50. Page 2

Feb. 5 & 19

Give your kids something productive to do with their free time. They will have lots of fun making their very own machine pieced quilt in this easy quilting class. Students aged 8 to 10 years will have assistance cutting their pieces. Students 10+ years will explore rotary cutting techniques. Machine piecing with a 1/4” seam will be covered and how to make the quilt sandwich, turn, and hand or machine tie the quilt. Students must have taken at least one basic kids sewing class from AQC within the last year to take this more advanced class. The Camp fee is $150 which includes all the materials needed to make this fun quilt.

Recommended Skill Levels for Sewing Classes:

Beginner

Confident Beginner Intermediate Advanced The skill level refers to the sewing experience needed to complete the project within each class category; not the overall sewing experience of the student. Appletree Quilting Center

Join Susan to make this comfy unstructured jacket this fall. This unlined jacket has diagonal front darted seams with slash pockets. Its easy shape comes from curved waist seams and center front darts. It also features raglan sleeves and a crisp collar. Susan will also show you how to adapt the pattern for warm and cozy cotton flannel. Fee $70.

The class will include an indepth study of color theory and how it applies to fabrics. Homework exercises will help reinforce concepts studied in class. This is truly the easiest quilt to make! Select several of our cotton flannels and we will pre-cut and pre-fringe the blocks for you. All you have to do is sew the blocks together! The magic of this project happens when you wash and dry the quilt allowing the pre-fringed seam allowances to bloom. Add optional embroidered or applique blocks. Fee $75. Page 6

This is a fun pattern from Elizabeth Hartman which can become a single block pillow or a larger quilt. You decide how many dogs to put in your home. Join Suzanne to create your own sweet doggie quilt. Fee $75.

Choose an assortment of light and dark fabrics, add a terrific couple of tools from Studio 180, and you’re on your way toward making this spectacular Hunter’s Star quilt. This project is much easier to master than you might think. Wendy will show you how to keep your cool and avoid those crazy Hot Flashes! Fee $85.

Get out your Quick Curve Mini Ruler and get ready to make this fun, fascinating project! We will combine two blocks from the Urbanology book to make a seasonal combo of reindeer and feather trees that you could use as a wall hanging or a table runner. Fee $70.

Panel Magic .... with Millie

Machine Applique

This class will give you the tricks and techniques for working with preprinted panels. Panels have an innate distortion that comes from being wrapped on the bolt under tension. Learn how to straighten your panel first before adding borders. We will also explore adding a perfectly matched pieced border. No more partial blocks to finesse on the corners. Fee $70.

Basic Machine Applique .... with Susan

Christmas themed fabric is a great choice for the flowers in these baskets. Different sections of the flower blocks are constructed using simple freezer paper piecing, strip piecing, and rotary cutting. Then the blocks are sashed on point and framed with pieced corner sections. Fee $70.

Learn the basics of machine applique while creating this fun big hot pad for Halloween. You will learn how to transfer patterns onto our favorite ultra-light weight Shades of Soft Fuse fusible web. Then we will explore the world of thread and the variety of stitches on your machine. Explore several different methods to finish your project. Fee $40.

This colorful quilt consists of one block made with the Quick Curve Ruler. The repetition of this single block makes the pattern. It is a good opportunity to explore working with curved piecing and to play with color. Fee $75. Page 8

Sometimes you just don’t want to sew but you do want to make something fun and easy. Wendy has the perfect project for you with no sew foam boards. All you need is a selection of fabrics and one simple tool – your favorite seam ripper! But no ripping is required. Just plain fun. This is a great technique to do while watching a movie! Fee $40. Are you ready to stretch those applique skills? In this class, you will learn how to adjust an applique pattern to a different size and then learn to cut out the three basic shapes on your Cameo Silhouette cutter (optional). We will also explore metallic threads for the stitching. Fee $70.

Is your quilt binding lumpy and uneven with rounded corners and poor miters? Many prize worthy quilts have failed due to shoddy binding. Learn the basic techniques of applying perfect quilt binding with either straight grain or bias strips. Master continuous bias binding and precise mitered corners on both the front and back sides. This design is a bit of a challenge but is definitely worth the effort! Helen will guide you through the various steps of paper piecing with the freezer paper method. Fee $70.

It’s not a quilt until it’s quilted! Join Marilyn to learn basic machine quilting techniques. Learn how to layer the quilt sandwich and quilt it with stitch-in-the-ditch and straight line quilting. This new 10 month BOM program was designed by Toni Steere of a Wing and a Prayer Designs and features twenty luscious batiks in a palette of deep blue to turquoise with purple accents. Resembling a kaleidoscope, the Mystical Prism quilt uses traditional piecing with unusual fabric color combinations. The quilt is made up of ten different blocks plus the setting units. Each month Jean and Millie will provide a thorough demonstration and helpful hints for your successful completion of the block(s).

Class & Special Event Policies Your class fee is due at registration. This guarantees your place in class. Class size is limited. So please register early. Sometimes a great class is cancelled because people wait to the last minute to register. Each class needs a minimum enrollment at least three days before it begins. Full refunds or store credits will be issued only if the class is cancelled by AQC due to bad weather or insufficient registration. Any class cancellation made by the student must be received 7 days before the class in order to receive a store credit less a $5 processing fee; no refunds will be given. Denise Best has been sewing and quilting all her life. She learned the art as a child and has been sewing and quilting with a passion ever since. She loves sharing her knowledge, teaching in local quilt shops and helping friends master new sewing and quilting skills over lunch hours at work. Denise started quilting on the HQ Avanté in 2011. Today, she loves quilting on the HQ Infinity with ProStitcher. With a background in I/T and data analytics, she has quickly become proficient in using the ProStitcher along with Art and Stitch digitizing software and is anxious to teach and to share with her students. Denise is an active member of the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild, serving 2 terms as treasurer. She is a long-standing member in a hand bell choir and enjoys running to stay fit. She lives in Kansas City with her husband, stepdaughter and 2 dogs.

The HQ Pro-Stitcher - Part II 9:00–4:00 PM Sunday, October 29 This class is an extension of the basic Introduction to the HQ Pro-Stitcher. Focused on additional functions of the HQ Pro-Stitcher that go beyond the basics, this class also focuses on problem-solving typical situations you may encounter. Toni Steere began teaching friends within a year of learning to quilt. Driven by her love of color and design, Toni opened her own quilt shop in 1990. For the 16 years she owned her shop, Toni shared her passion for quilting by teaching classes and presenting guild lectures. After selling her store, Toni became a fabric sales rep. In 2007, she teamed with Jenny Foltz to form Wing and a Prayer Designs. For 10 years Jenny and Toni have created numerous quilt patterns and fabric collections for Timeless Treasures Fabrics.
