And three of us are grandmothers.” Brewer, who works as a nanny, must explain to her employers that she might occasionally arrive for work on her Harley Davidson. It’s not exactly the Mary Poppins look, but Brewer says after the initial surprise, most people find it “really cool.” The Road Runners recently took a four-day trip to North Carolina where Brewer rented a large mountain cabin for the 11-member group. Half of the riders
on that trip were women. Taking turns cooking meals and roasting s’mores in the evenings, the riders enjoyed day trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway and to the Biltmore Estate. “The final destination isn’t really the point,” said Brewer. “It’s all about the riding.” Brewer’s adult daughter is not a big fan of her mother’s “need for speed” and often gives her mom lectures on the need to stay safe on the road. Sanchez admits that she would never have felt comfortable riding motorcycles when her own children were young. But now, in middle age, the timing is right.
