Young non-profit honored in second year in service

Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta is closing the weekend hunger gap for Atlanta’s schoolchildren, one student at a time. Incorporated in 2022 and deploying an efficient model that leverages hundreds of volunteers and dozens of community partner organizations, Backpack Buddies has grown from feeding 800 kids per week to 2,400 in just two school years.

“The community support has been an absolute blessing,” said Board Chair Terri Bagen. “We would not be able to feed these hungry children without the support of everyone along our food procurement and

distribution chain. And now, to be honored by the community this early in our young life, well that just shows how much the Perimeter area has truly welcomed us and gotten behind our mission to nourish foodinsecure children throughout the metro.”

At Edison Prep, we work with students to help them achieve their goals in standardized testing and in college admissions. It is our honor to help more than 2,000 students every year prepare for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and AP History exams.

Brian and Silvia Eufinger co-founded Edison Prep in 2010, offering one-onone tutoring in students’ homes or local coffee shops. In 2011, Brian and Silvia published the first edition of Edison Prep’s SAT and ACT curriculum—comprehensive workbooks with content, strategies, and practice materials to help students improve their scores—which they continue to revise each year. We soon added AP History bootcamps to the yearly rotation, and since then, we’ve continued to grow our offerings with SAT and ACT group courses, accelerated bootcamps, expanded private tutoring options, and much more!

At Edison Prep, we pride ourselves on being a boutique tutoring agency with a small, experienced team led by the two founders, who still teach full-time in the trenches alongside the rest of the team (which is highly unusual in the test prep industry). The founders teach all of the SAT and ACT group classes and provide

Community Assistance Center’s (CAC’s) Canopy Thrift Shop is a not-so-hidden gem in the north end of Sandy Springs. Canopy’s revenue helps prevent hunger and homelessness in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody by funding CAC’s emergency assistance programs: financial assistance to clients in order to prevent evictions, food for three Mini Market food pantries, funding for youth and seasonal programs, as well as support for the career center and adult education. CAC has

grown since 1987 to become the Perimeter area’s largest human services nonprofit and is a critical and vital role in community stability.

Last year, I highlighted how you can protect yourself before you are injured in a wreck by explaining two key types of insurance you need. I had a lot of questions about this afterwards and wanted to provide this information again because it is so important to protect yourself and your family. Oftentimes, people shop for car insurance based on the price rather than on the type of protection provided. We have cases where someone is severely injured, but the other driver has a “minimum limits” policy which does not even cover a fraction of the medical bills.

Here are two types of insurance that you need to protect yourself if someone else injures you in a wreck:

(1) Underinsured Motorist (“UM” or “UIM”) Coverage. This is insurance that protects you if the at-fault driver doesn’t have insurance or doesn’t have enough insurance.

There are two types of UM insurance: “Add-On” and “Reduced-By.” You always

want to have “Add-On” insurance coverage because it goes on top of the at-fault driver’s insurance. I recommend that your UM coverage match your liability coverage, which is the insurance that protects you if you cause a wreck.

(2) Medical Payment Coverage (“Med-Pay”). This is insurance that covers medical bills if you are injured in a car wreck. If you have health insurance, this can be used to cover your co-pays, deductible, and coinsurance. I recommend that you have at least $10,000 in Med-Pay coverage.

Our digital impressions are different than the old school impressions of the past. These highly accurate impressions take about 3 minutes to

acquire the upper and lower teeth and capture the bite. This is all done with the highest patient comfort in mind and without the mess and silly putty style goop. After we give you your treatment options, we will never pressure you into starting that same day and our prices are the same whether you decide to start on your consultation day or wait until a day that works better for you.
