Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder announced 34 winners of the Lieutenant Governor’s Senior Service Award, including Raymond Dowell Jr. of New London. Lt. Governor Kinder presented the awards Tuesday, May 6, at a luncheon for the winners and their guests outside his office in the Capitol. Dowell was nominated by Missouri State Rep. Jim Hansen of Frankford. Dowell, a Korean War veteran, has been a member of
the American Legion Post in Hannibal for 50+ years. He also volunteers in support of the Masonic Children’s Foundation, the Masonic Home of Missouri, the Masonic Scholarship Fund and programs to support widows of Freemasons. As president of the New London Senior Citizens, he has helped to build a strong network of community support for local seniors. “I have known Raymond for years, and he has always been one of those ‘silent do-
ers,’ always willing to step up to the challenge at hand but never seeking recognition for the time and effort he puts in,” said Rep. Hansen in his nomination. “Most of Mr. Dowell’s work is done outside of the spotlight.” Kinder praised Dowell for his work with veterans. “He has worked on behalf of veterans throughout the area to see they are welcomed home to their communities with respect, pride and access to the resources they de-
serve,” Kinder said. Lt. Governor Kinder presented Dowell with an official declaration and a Senior Service Award lapel pin at a ceremony in the Capitol. Kinder has given Senior Service Awards every year since he took office in 2005. “Raymond Dowell Jr. sets an excellent example for all Missourians with his willingness to serve the New London area,” Kinder said. “His selfless service is an inspiration to all who know him.”
