We’ll support you through your Appalachian experience by making sure that classes you take in the meantime will transfer to Appalachian and by guiding you through admission, financial aid, housing and distance learning processes. But the support doesn’t stop there – it continues through graduation!

Explore

Learn how your courses will transfer

As you explore your major requirements, utilize the transfer guides to assist with choosing appropriate coursework. Review the Transfer Equivalency Course Search to determine how your courses completed at other institutions may transfer to App. transfer.appstate.edu/credit

Get to know General Education at App

General Education (“Gen Ed”) courses offer a rigorous liberal education to supplement your major coursework. Gen Ed requirements can be met by completing an AA or AS (with a grade of C or above in all of the core coursework) from an NC community college. Out-of-state and four-year institution coursework will be evaluated by the Office of General Education.

Apply

When to apply

Apply at least one semester before your intended date of enrollment by submitting a CFNC application, fee and college transcripts. Admitted students will be given a deadline to confirm enrollment and submit the advance payment required to reserve their place in the incoming class. The application opens in August for the following academic year. Transfer admission decisions are released on a rolling basis until each class is full. admissions.appstate.edu/apply

Apply for merit scholarships and financial aid

Transfer students who have shown previous academic success and involvement prior to enrollment are eligible for merit scholarship opportunities at Appalachian. Submit the financial aid application early for priority consideration by March 1 and submit the scholarships application by March 15. scholarships.appstate.edu • financialaid.appstate.edu

Review your official transfer credit evaluation

A notification that your transcript has been evaluated will arrive by email one to two weeks after you are admitted. You will be directed to your DegreeWorks Audit to see your evaluation. Send Appalachian an updated transcript after you complete each semester at your current institution.

Enroll

Take the Early Registration Advising (ERA) course

After registering for Orientation, you’ll complete an online course that allows you to register for classes. This course will teach you how to use Appalachian’s web registration system and how to choose your classes. era.appstate.edu

Register for Transfer Pre-Orientation Program (T-POP)

This optional program gives you the opportunity to learn more about financial aid, transfer credit, advising and campus life. Transfer Student Mentors will be available to answer all of your questions! orientation.appstate.edu/tpop

Attend Orientation

Get a feel for campus, meet with an academic advisor and faculty and finalize your first-semester class schedule. Orientation is required – register early to find the session that best fits your availability.

Transfer Transition Advisor – Will help you choose the most appropriate courses at your current institution that will transfer to Appalachian. Jump Start Appalachian – A transition and support program to help students before and during the transfer to Appalachian. jumpstart.appstate.edu Appalachian State Transfers Facebook group – Join the group to connect with other transfer students! facebook.com/groups/appstatetransfers Housing – On-campus housing for transfers is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. As you prepare to enroll

Trailhead Academy – A four-day program for new students to meet one another while enhancing leadership skills, forming lasting bonds and becoming members of the Appalachian Community. First Ascent – A multi-day backpacking adventure in the NC mountains. Small groups of students form bonds that will last throughout App and beyond. Welcome Weekend – An extension of new student Orientation and a time for you to get comfortable at App, make new friends, have fun and begin your journey with the Appalachian Community.

As you begin life as a Mountaineer

Transfer Student Mentors – Current transfer students available to offer tips and suggestions or just meet for coffee. Faculty Transfer Mentors – Faculty who provide guidance and support especially for transfer students. Transfer programming and events – Social gatherings. Success workshops. Networking opportunities.
