We are beyond excited to be welcoming you to the first issue of Apostolic Youth Media magazine! As a media company with the aim of inspiring today's young believers, we relish this chance to present you with fascinating faith-building articles, striking images and a little humor along the way
Frankly, in an era dominated by social media, social pressures, social anxieties and endless emerging challenges, we hope that this will be a resource to remind young believers that they are not alone. Through the bringing together of doctrinally sound counsel and the work of inspiring people in the Apostolic faith, we seek to impactfully educate and encourage.
A key tenet of Apostolic Youth Media is unity. The assemblies of the global Apostolic body may vary in administration and differ in culture, but more powerful than our differences are unbreakable chords that bind us together; the desire to meticulously adhere to the Word of God, the passion to see multitudes of souls won to the Christ's Kingdom, sealed with baptism and the in-filling of His Spirit. More than the oceans and personal points that divide us, is the need for the strength found in being united. With daily input from Holy Ghost inspired sources, we are convinced that we will not only survive, but shine brightly, even in a world that is growing increasingly dark.
Please pray for the A.Y. M team as we continue to serve.

To the ear of many in today’s world, ‘submission’ is a word that grates, one that rings in the mind with images of oppression and hints of misogyny. This tainted view of the beautiful mechanism of submission emerges from the reality that much of what is created by God is distorted and mis-used when it falls into the hands of fallen man
So if not merely a license to dominate and denigrate others in supporting roles, what is biblical submission exactly? We know it is essential in the life of every spirit-led believer, so it should be understood by all. We know that when it is fully being practiced biblically, it works vertically, horizontally and mutually (with brethren, with leadership and with both people in a relationship) When we mine the scriptures and the heart of God, we can see his intent for this divine format, and exactly how it is practiced in spiritually healthy relationships.
"OUR SUBMISSION ENSURES THAT WE ARE WORKING WITH EACH OTHER, AND NOT BATTLING AGAINST ONE ANOTHER, SO OUR ATTENTION CAN BE FOCUSED ON UNITING OURSELVES IN BATTLE AGAINST THE ENEMY"
When we view the picture painted by submission scriptures (eg Genesis 16:9, Titus 3:1, Ephesians 5:24), we can garner that submission is the act of rejecting our own self-will
This is how we become like Christ, and of course being like him is the whole aim of our lives (Philippians 2:5) The Greek word for ‘submission’ used in the New Testament is ‘hupotassō’, which is a military term meaning ‘to arrange under the authority of a leader’. So, like those on a military mission, our sub-mission ensures that we are working with each other, and not battling against one another, thus our attention can be focused on uniting ourselves in battle against the enemy instead As ‘soldiers’ of Christ, there are many ways in which we must show submission so that we war wisely.
Beginning with submission in marriage, there is much on which to ensure clarity Colossians 3:18 and 1 Peter 3:1 and 5 state that wives should submit to their husbands. In the same breath, these marriage passages also instruct how a husband should love his wife (eg Ephesians 5:25, Colossians 3:19). He is commanded to treat her tenderly and with selflessness He is to lead her and love her the way Christ does with his bride, the Church (Ephesians 5:25-27) Ephesians 5:21 makes it clear that both husband and wife are obliged to consider the needs of the other before themselves, and more importantly, to consider God and their marriage (which is to glorify God) before themselves. We see submission involves mutual self-sacrifice So, taken in their entirety, these marital commands tell us key things that correct unhealthy practices that some societies have developed regarding the opposition and suppression of women.
Wives need to be emotionally protected by their spouse Knowing she can trust her husband to take the brunt of difficult decisions reduces her stress This is important because women are more negatively impacted by stress than men And men are hardwired to respond to honor, which flourishes when he is recognised in his role as family head Even the Proverbs 31 woman, who herself was very ambitious and well respected by others, was shown to have a husband who was greatly honored (Proverbs 31:23). We live in a strange world where women are primed to either manipulate men, or mold themselves into men (think fourth wave feminism) and men are developing a culture of bitterness toward women (think ‘incel’ culture or the popularity of misogynistic pick-up artistry) If more of society placed themselves under the Godly light of holy marriage and submission, trends like these would struggle to take hold
The world has set men and women against each other in many ways This kind of discord is not God’s will He ingeniously man women complimentary to men Women are to be handled as if they are delicate (1 Peter 3:7), yet, they have strengths that men need It is not good for the woman ’ s voice to be suppressed
Marriage experts have found that a couple being dismissive of each other's thoughts is a major danger sign on the road to divorce. But a Godly man hopefully marries a Godly woman As such, she possesses wisdom, and her voice is a great asset. Biblically, David listened to wise Abigail and Lemuel listened to his wise mother, to their great success. What matters is that the wife’s voice does not interfere with her husband hearing God’s voice, as he ultimately has the responsibility to head his family, the same way a CEO heads a successfully functioning company where everyone excels in their given role
And just as Christ showed, a good leader leads with humility, not brute force. This is how submission operates. Submission is not a husband controlling his wife, but it is about controlling the outcomes for his family. And if the man truly lets God lead him, the woman can securely allow herself to submit as her spouse leads her.
How marital submission works in dayto-day reality is that, when a family decision is to be made, the husband and wife listen to one another’s thoughts, but to conclude the matter, it is the husband who prayerfully makes the final decision, and the wife supports him. Like Aaron and Hur holding up the hands of Moses (Exodus 17:12), when the person appointed as leader is supported, it means success for the family unit as a whole (NB: Mark 3:24), and it promotes peace If the wife has a matter that she feels needs to be brought to the husband's attention, she does not need to resort to nagging, she can petition God through prayer to put the matter on the husband’s heart
Including marriage, the Bible shows that submission is integral to ten scenarios in the lives of believers:
Even though he was God, as a child, Christ showed the importance of submitting to parents, by allowing himself to be subject to his earthly adopted kin Mary and Joseph (Ephesians 6:1-3, Luke 2:51, Exodus 20:12)
A holy spirit-filled child of God makes sure that their anointing is submitted to their own wisdom and self-control so
they flow with church gatherings rather than causing disruption in them Additionally, a child of God must be aware that unclean spirits submit to them too, thus they have a right to cast them out (Luke 10:17, Luke 10:19-20, 1 Corinthians 14:32)
The Bible states that God sets up governors, presidents, prime-ministers etc to keep order and peace in nations Therefore we should submit to themup unto the point where their rulings clash against God’s (Romans 13:1, Titus 3:1, 1 Peter 2:13-14
This fact recognises God as the master of the universe Mankind is of course part of his creation, so this includes all of mankind’s submission to God (Hebrews 12:9, James 4:7, 1 Corinthians 15:27-28, 1 Peter 3:22)
As God embodied in a perfect man, Christ had to set the perfect example of submission to us (1 Corinthians 15:28, Mark 14:36, Matthew 26:42, John 6:38, Philippians 2:5-9)
A similar concept to respecting those who lead our nations; things run more smoothly when those who have the burden of leadership are given our support (1 Corinthians 16:15-16)
This reflects God’s requirement that we always think of the wellbeing of our brethren and not live selfishly (Philippians 2:3-4, Ephesians 5:21). This kind of love reflects the beauty of Jesus for outsiders to see and commend (John 13:25).
This speaks to intentionally living a life that is as free of contention and conflict as possible, because those things are usually not helpful for soulwinning (Romans 12:18, Titus 2:9, 1 Peter 2:18)
This is added to the types of ‘hupotassō’ mentioned above that address brotherly love and foster humility, respect and affection amongst Church members (1 Peter 5:5).
As those walking with Christ, we should already have accepted that our life is being lived for a mission bigger than ourself (‘submission’ = submitting to the mission). Submission is synonymous with self-sacrifice When submission is neglected, we elevate our selfish ambitions rather than the success of our God-glorifying relationships We become disobedient Eve, eating the fruit to the detriment of her union with God, her husband and future family It is also vastly damaging when those who are to be submitted to abuse their authority and abuse others, leading with pride instead of with love The Bible warns against this harm (1 Peter 5:3) God ordained the instruction of submission because he is a God of peace (2 Thessalonians 3:16, Romans 14:19) and order (1 Corinthians 14:33) and example (Philippians 3:17, Mark 16:24) When someone in authority becomes corrupt, it usually leads to the opposite of these virtues being played out
Essentially, practising submission ensures that all institutions set up by God in the earth reflect his divine values of love and honor, authority and order – whether it be the Church, a nation, an army, a company, an institution, a household or a marriage.
The sixth plague was of boils (Exodus 9:8-9) These terrible sores and swellings in the skin may have been to lead the Egyptians to call on Sekhmet, their goddess of healing, and realize how futile it was to pray to an idol for relief.
The seventh plague was hail (Exodus 9:22-25) which destroyed much of the vegetation left in Egypt. This plague showed the failing of Nut who the Egyptians worshiped as the goddess of the sky The eighth plague was locusts (Exodus 10:4-15) and it stripped Egypt of their remaining food supply It was a final demolishing of resources needed to sustain life, and a warning of the fact that death itself was imminent.
The fact that the locusts came out of the wind (Exodus 10:13) may have brought to mind Amun, idol god of the wind or Serapia who they regarded as a protector from locusts The ninth plague caused the land of Egypt to be in thick darkness (Exodus 10:2123) The spiritual darkness of the land of Egypt was now tangible to them This also was a triumph over the worship of their sun god Ra, perhaps the most well-known of the Egyptian deities
The final plague (Exodus 11:5) caused the death of the first born in every family of Egypt (except possibly any who were close enough to the Israelites to join in with putting lamb’s blood on their lintels for protection). This final devastating plague was a defeat over the Egyptians’ only tangible idolPharaoh, who the people would have considered a god.
This mass death touched Pharaoh, robbing him of his heir and leaving him broken enough to tell the Israelites that they could go (Exodus 11:31) For a moment it seems Pharaoh may have even felt some humility and recognized the reality of the almighty God; in Exodus 11:32 he asks Moses before he leaves to ‘bless me also’
In Exodus 14:8 Pharaoh backtracks on his decision and chases after the Israelites, dashing any hopes of allowing himself or his people to turn to the true omnipotent God Yet the account remains to warn all others who read it not to bypass God and attempt to live a life trusting in man-made idols and ideologies.
This song is a delicately crafted call to the Holy Spirit to move amongst those present Understated guitars and 'punchy' drum kicks nicely undergird the sincere vocals of Dimas and the choir
'The golden shore my soul longs for, your love has raptured me ' . The lyrics every bit as nectar-sweet as the lead female vocals. This has the factors we have come to expect from a great contemporary worship songdramatic electric guitar, background choir and moments of 'light and shade' that make the song an emotional journey
A gently paced piano based tune, this worship song ' s lyrics are a comforting reminder of the constant nearness of the Lord. The commanding male voices rise and fall wonderfully just as the music does
This is an upbeat ditty that seems like a pop song at some points, until the choir and gospel style organs joyfully swing in Haley Young pops in near the ending of the song with some great gospel-y vocal runs A perfect song for dancing unto the Lord around your living room!
A hearty love song unto the Lord with minor chord drama, vocals soaring as though reaching for heaven, slick electric guitar and a choir sung chorus.
The sweet male and female lead vocals, the accompanying choir, the dramatic guitar, the hearty lyrics all make this song a great listen for a worship moment Our favourite elements are the commanding drum kicks that burst in and out at impactful moments.
The electric guitar and soulful voices lend dramatically to this encouragement for trusting God through everything Listen out for the exciting crescendo of the chorus and the almost surprise entrance of Sarah Perez's vocal force
This guitar ballad by the married couple and seasoned song-sters Nathan and Rachel French is a sweetly melodic love song about the joys of Godly marriage. No doubt it is already a featured favorite on many wedding playlists!
