The Litany of Trust is a powerful prayer for anyone seeking to overcome fear, anxiety, and self-reliance. It moves through two main parts:
1. Deliverance Petitions
Asking Jesus to free us from fears, lies, and attachments:
“From the fear that I am unlovable, deliver me, Jesus.”
“From the false security that I have what it takes, deliver me, Jesus.”
2. Affirmations of Trust
Proclaiming our confidence in Christ’s care and promises:
“That You are with me in my suffering, Jesus, I trust in You.”
“That Your love goes deeper than my sins and failings, Jesus, I trust in You.”
This litany is deeply rooted in the Catholic tradition of trusting Divine Mercy and echoes the spirit of prayers like the Litany of Humility and the Surrender Novena. It is a gentle, healing way to open your heart to God’s love and providence.
ECCLESIASTICAL APPROVAL
In accordance with Church, the Litany of Trust received the Imprimatur of Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, on March 3, 2017.
The Imprimatur (Latin for "let it be printed") is an official declaration that a work is free from doctrinal or moral error and is approved for publication by a bishop or ecclesiastical authority.
This approval does not imply that the content is part of the Church’s public liturgy or dogma, but rather that it is safe and beneficial for private devotion and spiritual encouragement among the faithful.
The Litany is now widely promoted by the Sisters of Life and is frequently used in retreats, spiritual direction, and personal prayer, especially among those struggling with anxiety, fear, or wounded trust.
SUGGESTED USE
The Litany of Trust is an invitation to surrender fear, anxiety, and control into the merciful hands of God. Whether you're praying it for the first time or returning to it during a challenging season, here are a few ways to integrate it into your spiritual life:
Pray it slowly, reflecting on each line
Take your time with the litany. Let each phrase sink into your heart. Pause after lines that speak directly to your current struggles. This prayer is not meant to be rushed, it’s meant to be received, like a conversation of healing.
Use it during Eucharistic Adoration or before Confession
The Litany of Trust pairs beautifully with moments of silence before the Blessed Sacrament. It can also serve as a powerful spiritual examination before going to Confession, helping you uncover the areas where fear or self-reliance may be blocking God’s grace.
Keep a printed copy by your bedside
Let this prayer be one of the last things you read at night. Keep it beside your Bible, journal, or rosary. When worries come in the quiet hours, turn to this litany as a nightly surrender into God’s protection and peace.
Pray it daily during seasons of anxiety or transition
Whether you are facing uncertainty, grief, change, or spiritual dryness, this prayer becomes a daily act of trust. By returning to it regularly, your heart is gradually retrained to lean on divine Providence rather than fear or control.
