What Up, Issue 1?

Hi there! And welcome to our first issue of Moose Droppings ^-^ My name's Anne and I pledged for APO last semester's pledge class, Jaime Yasaki Spring '18. I'm the other half of your Publications Director so don't be shy to ask any questions, I'm here to help. Good luck to all pledges and have fun pledging!!

‘Sup, everyone! I’m Jacqueline (Jackie) Melo. I’ll be one of your Publications Directors this Fall Semester. I’m a Senior (Transfer) Student, Anthropology/Archaeology Major. Don’t hesitate to ask me for any help, I don’t bite and I hope I make up for any awkward interactions with how accepting and rather chill I can be. Let’s make this semester something to remember!

Hello, friends! My name is Jessica Yip and I’m proud to serve as your President this semester! I’m starting my 6th year as a Computer Engineering major, and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! I grew up in South San Francisco, or South City, about 10 minutes away from school, so I’m a little local, but definitely from the suburbs. I pledged in Spring ’16 as part of the Alyssa Royce pledge class and have stayed as active as possible since then! I like to think I’m a very laidback person, and I love making people laugh. You’ll always find me cracking jokes and telling bad puns.

My favorite ways to bond are telling puns, eating food, sharing memes, and doing service together! Outside of APO, I love technology and video games. Though I don’t really have as much time or energy to play them anymore, so now I just watch other people play video games for me on YouTube :D. I also work on campus in the IT Department. I spend my little free time either napping, watching funny videos online, or procrastinating on things I should really be doing. Hahaha. My all-time favorite show is Avatar: The Last Airbender and more recently, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Food also makes me happy! Noodles, bacon, and avocados are my top foods. I had the opportunity to study abroad in Seoul in Spring ’17, and since then it’s given me this desire to travel the world. A life goal of mine is to travel and eat noodles from all over the world. As I said, I love doing service! I always say I came to APO for the service, but I stayed because I got so much more. I’ve been in APO for a decent amount of time now, and my goal as President is to help others enjoy APO as much as I have! I want you to know that I’m here to help support you on your pledging journey as well, so if you want to talk about anything please reach out! Pledging was one of the best decisions I made in college because I’ve learned, I’ve grown, and I’ve made awesome friends. I hope you feel welcome, and see yourself grow within our chapter too. Pledging will be a lot of work, but the work will be worth it. Enjoy your semester, come do service with me, and welcome to our family!

Pledge Masters Hellooo! My name is Alex Manalo and I am one of the Pledgemasters. I am a thirdyear planning to major in psychology and minor in communications. I pledged my first semester of college in the Fred Heismeyer pledge class. My favorite music is R&B and Hip Hop. I played football and tennis in high school. I’m from San Dimas, California (LA County). I don’t like to be so serious all the time but I am when I have to be. I like to make videos from time to time. I watch a lot of Netflix and Youtube on my free time. My favorite TV show is The Office. I pledged because I wanted to do something other than just going to class and back to my dorm and because Alpha Phi Omega wasn’t that stereotypical fraternity. The pledging process helped me through a tough time, helped me grow as a person, and let me meet some of my closest friends. Have fun with pledging and make the most out of it!

If I was not in Alpha Phi Omega I think I would be very bored with college career. I probably would’ve joined some club like ASU but I'm really glad I pledged for this fraternity, I think my life would be much more free and I wouldn't be doing as much as I am now. My grades would definitely be better but on the other note I probably wont have a social life lol. I wouldn’t have some of the people in my life that I know today and that would honestly make me really sad. My life would definitely be super boring and I wouldn’t have eaten at half of the restaurants I’ve been to today LOL. Yum, eating. I think something else I would be doing if I didn't join Alpha Phi Omega is some other extracurricular. I probably would’ve joined associated students or something idk lol.

I also think that I would be super invested into my school work and probably some big nerd l0l. Overall If i was not in Alpha Phi Omega, I would have a higher GPA, less of a social life, and not as many friends because 95% of my friends right now are in APO Mu Zeta at San Francisco State University.

SERVICE Vice Presidents Hey my name is Neal and I am one half of your Service VP. I joined Alpha Phi Omega for the friendship and service aspect and stayed for this long because APO gave me the chance to grow as a person and I make so many awesome friends! A little about me is that I love going to the gym and hanging out with friends. Hit me up to gym so we can make gains together! Typically I’m a chill guy and I have a pretty odd sense of humor so as a fair warning please get use to the bad jokes throughout the semester. Fun fact I at least got $300 worth of free jamba juice and boba drinks because of making friends here and there so be kind to everyone around you <3. All jokes aside, have fun pledging! It’s a great opportunity to provide service to your community, make long lasting friendships, and put yourself out there to experience new and great things. We are here to support you every step of the way, so don’t hesitate to ask for help. I can’t wait to get to know all of you this upcoming semester! #Hellafireitsfredheismerexplosion HI THEREEEE!!! My name is Elsa, one half of your Service Vice President for this Fall semester! Nice meeting all of you, and hope we will get to know each other along your pledging journey. I pledged Fred Heismeyer Fall 2016, pledging to me has always been fun and challenging but it definitely worths it, you never know what you would expect during this journey. It would be my 4th semester with Alpha Phi Omega, and the reason that I am still around because APO has given me a lot of valuables: life-long friends, passion on doing service, and the potential to grow as a person. And which I hope I can give it back to the chapter by guiding the new pledges and members to see the values in APO. Everyone can have different reasons to join / stay in APO, I wish you will find yours here.

Usually, I will be at the library hanging out after my classes, feel free to talk to me even you just want to chit-chat! I am very NICE and FRIENDLY, so come talk to me! Most of the time if you can’t find me, I am probably home because I get lazy, text me if you need anything though. I am a big foodie, basically I eat anything, I mean anything, so if you have any “challenging” food, hit me up;) Speaking of favorite TV show, mine would be Brooklyn nine-nine, I am a Jake^_^, so if you are also a fan, let me know, we can talk about it LOL! *NINE-NINE* Anyways, I am looking forward to another great semester full of service with you. Aloha members and pledges! I am a newly crossed brother from the spring 2018 pledge class Jaime Yasaki and your fall 2018 Fellowship Vice President. I am a second year here at SFSU and currently a pre-kinesiology major. My dream job is to be an occupational therapist because I really want to help kids in need at schools or hospitals. I am from Temecula, California and went to Great Oak High School. In high school, I was part of my Air Force JROTC program, JV/Varsity Lacrosse and two dance groups! My biggest passion in life is Polynesian dancing because I love the culture and how symbolic the dances are. I have danced for about 7 years with the company Vylaniâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s and was captain for my school ohana for about 2 years. Some of my favorite tv shows are Friends, Parks and Rec, The Office, New Girl (omg there are so many)!

My all-time favorite movies have to be La La Land, 500 days of summer, and Just go with it! I have traveled to many places and a fun fact about me is that I was born in Yokosuka, Japan. I really love dogs and I hope to have at least 3 in the future. I am terrified of frogs and birds flying over me. My favorite food is fried chicken (more like wings) and my favorite type of food is Japanese! I love hanging out with friends and trying new things but I also value my alone time and make sure to always take care of myself at the end of the day. I am really excited to make new memories this semester in my first excomm position and helping the pledges!

Hello, my name is Amanda Louie and I am 1/2 of your Fall 2018 Membership Vice President. I am currently on my 4.5th year of undergraduate and this will be my last semester! I am a Sociology major with a Hospitality and Tourism Management minor. After undergrad, I am hoping to move up north to Seattle for graduate school! I hope to attend the University of Seattle to study counseling and then over time, become a personal counselor or even a counselor at schools!

I am an Assistant Manager at Salt and Straw, an ice creamery that was started in Portland, Oregon. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and moved up to San Francisco for school. Without Alpha Phi Omega, I don’t think I would be where I am today.

I joined Alpha Phi Omega hoping to make lifelong friends and also create networks for myself in the future. I actually got my first job from an older member in Mu Zeta! This fraternity has definitely helped me grow to become the person I am today. I used to be very shy and timid, but over time, I developed a lot of leadership skills to help me get out of my little bubble. I would like to say that I’m very outgoing and once I set a goal, I will do anything to achieve it.

Besides school, Alpha Phi Omega, and work, I like to spend my time lounging around with my cat, Teddy. He’s an old boy and I love him dearly. I also like to cook and travel in my free time! I love exploring the city as well as flying to new cities and eat at their popular restaurants. My guilty pleasure is fine dining, so I try to find restaurants with good ratings and service. If the restaurant has a table setting with multiple forks, I’m there. If you can’t tell already, I’m a baller on a budget 95% of the time, and then I’ll spend a lot whenever I travel.

Buenos dias, my name is Matt and I’m ½ of your Fall 2018 Membership Vice Presidents!

Electrical engineering major who wants to go into the field of innovation after college. Transfer student from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, came in Spring 2017. Always aiming to grow and be the best version of myself that I can be, whatever it takes.

Shout out to Deion Dela Paz and Raymond Yu, if you ever meet them, you’ve been blessed.

Letters were a reason why I wanted to pledge for APO, but I stayed for better reasons. Inspired by brotherhood, putting a smile on peoples’ faces, and watching myself grow. Naysayers tell me I should’ve joined their org and not APO, but they don’t know me. Empathetic and kind, APO is where I was meant to be.

Being consistent with organization and time management is my goal for this semester. Easily said but hard to commit to, I believe both can continue throughout my life too. My previous APO positions were Service VP with Jessica Yip S18, Public Relations Officer with Corey Yee F17. Try to periodically remind yourself to enjoy life in the moment; think positively.

Lessons can be learned every day; keep an open mind and actively be in the present. Inspiration goes a long way; continually inspire yourself to be the best you can be. Not everyone moves at the same pace, but that’s okay; focus on reaching your end goal.

ADMINISTRATIVE Vice Presidents

My name is Michael Sanchez and I am a junior at San Francisco State University pursuing dual bachelor’s degrees in physics and mathematics. I am half of your 2018-2019 Administrative Vice President, for the Mu Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, and I pledged Spring '18 Jaime Yasaki.

I’d say, my biggest trait is my insatiable curiosity for the intricate systems that make up the universe, on all scales. I am enamored by the “eureka” moment: the feeling of discovery and satisfaction one gets upon fully understanding a previously incomprehensible concept or accomplishing a seemingly impossible task. Right now, I’m a researcher with Dr. Ichimura in a physical chemistry and materials lab here on campus. And on a personal level, I’m working on building myself and being okay with asking others for guidance.

I believe, the strongest people are those who understand where their flaws are, and act on them; whether it’s through asking the right questions, sharing experiences with the right people, or fully internalizing that no one, is always right. I’m no one without my friends, family, and mentors and realizing that, is the main reason why I joined Alpha Phi Omega. Yes, I met wonderful life-long friends, yeah requirements were a lot to deal with at first, and of course I had some doubts. But throughout the process, the struggle I faced, was not one I would have to bear alone. I’m where I’m at right now because those who came before me; those who’ve helped me without expecting anything in return.

And after realizing all of this, I’ve grown to love stronger.

I want to help my community and inspire those around me, who maybe aren’t as fortunate to have as strong as a support system that I do. And to that, I dedicate my life to improving myself, to provide that service those around me.

Hello!! I’m Sabrina Arellano, ½ of your Administrative Vice Presidents for this semester.

I’m a third year computer science major and math minor. I pledged Fall ‘17, Dale Penny so about a year ago. A little bit about myself is I enjoy watching a lot of different shows since I was little but one of my favorites would have to be the show Friends. I also love to go out and explore either the city or nature, since in high school I was a cross country runner and ran a lot of different trails. But besides running I like to do a lot of different athletic activities like dancing.

Last semester I was actually part of Roll Call our dance team and was actually a lot of fun since you don’t need any experience to join. I also enjoy to listen to a variety of music except for heavy metal and recently have been listening to a lot of hip hop and rap. Now that you know more about me I’d love to get to know all of you!

Hello, my name is Jason Nguyen, I am your Finance Vice President for Fall '18. I am currently a third year and pledged Fall '17 Dale Penny. I like to splurge my money on clothing and food when I am out with friends, certified broke boi. I commute on a daily from Hayward and has since then taken a toll on my me. By the time you read this I am either working at Uniqlo or eating Mcdonald's. Sup pledges, hope y'all have a fun and memorable 10 weeks because it's going to be the best 10 weeks of your college career, it has truly change myself for the better, ask anyone that knew me before I pledge, they can tell you I was really different.

SERGEANT-At-Arms The pledges should acknowledge that I am an admirable and distinguished person. I am generally chill and approachable. I am a third year who enjoys sleeping, eating and hanging out with friends. Some people consider me to be a bear because of how much I eat and sleep.

I’ve grown to accept my faith since it’s literally what I enjoy. People are also confused whenever they eat with me because of my eating habits. I’ve grown accustomed to eating really quickly because of my obese brother. I wanted to compete against him since he ate like he was a vacuum or black hole. Since then, people are amazed that my food disappears after a couple mins. APO has been a great experience for meeting people and learning new things. The two years of my college life has consisted of going to school then going home.

APO allowed me to stay busy and understand more about time management. I stayed because of my friends, who encouraged me to stay. They were always there and supported me to pass regardless of the result. I gained life long and strong friendships with my pledge brothers. I connected with them greatly throughout the pledging process. My goals for the semester consist of being more productive and spend less time slacking off. I have an unhealthy habit of doing my homework the very last hour of the day. Lastly, I hope to meet the pledges and grow strong bonds beyond APO.

Hello pledges, I am excited to have you pledge for APO. I’m Kevin, and I’m 1/2 of your Alumni Advisors this semester. I graduated SFSU I’m 2016 with a bachelors in Health Education, and I currently work at One Medical as one of two Enterprise Operations Coordinators for the whole company. My company partners with companies from 15 employees to as many as 30,000 employees, and my role is to support our account management team keep all 300+ of corporate partners happy and healthy.

I joined APO in 2013 because I wanted to get involved with my campus and find better ways to network. Since then, I have met well over 1,500 brothers from within and outside of the chapter.

In my spare time you can catch me singing in the car, dancing with our chapter dance team (Roll Call), eating, with my dogs, or on social media.

You may not see me on campus as much as my amazing counterpart Michael due to my busy season at work, but please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions at all.

I LOVE to eat, I'm a fatass. I love to eat almost any Asian food! I love playing sports too! Get Active right!? Feel free to come say what's up sometime or not if you decide not to be cool LOL jk. I will be at your Pledge meeting a lot so all of you guys are stuck with me ahaha. Trust me I ain't that bad. I also love music, Hip-hop, RnB, Edm, K-pop, K-Hip-Hop, Trap, ratchet music (even though that is still hip-hop), acoustic, and sometimes Jazz, these are my all shit lol. I'm a proud Korean and will always be proud of my culture. 대한민국 만세!! Also, I'm from the Bay as well, East Bay in Pittsburg to be exact, so I got love for my Bay Area peeps!
