For over 75 years, we’ve provided expert guidance, helpful online resources, and relevant financial products to help members live their A+ lives and find the support they need from their financial partner.
We’re changing expectations with our commitment to providing more than just banking services and making a positive, impactful difference with education and community support — because when our community strengthens, so do we.
Let’s continue to bank on each other and build stronger communities in 2025.
OUR HISTORY
In 1949, a group of like-minded teachers came up with the idea of working together not just as colleagues, but also as stewards of each other’s financial well-being.
Guided by the philosophy of mutual benefit, these teachers created a not-for-profit financial cooperative that today is known as ‘A+ Federal Credit Union’. As with a lot of things in life, looking out for each other made everyone stronger and more secure.
With this foundation, we’ve grown to be an award-winning credit union in Texas serving hundreds of thousands of members and community members.
After 75 years, many things have changed, but the bedrock principles remain. A+FCU takes the financial capability of every member seriously. We strive to understand the needs of every member to give them the best financial guidance for where they are in life and where they want to go. Here’s to the next 75 years of helping our members and community live their A+ lives.
75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
CELEBRATING
1949-2024
YEARS
2024 marked 75 years of us helping members live their A+ lives! We thank our incredible community and those who trust us with their financial needs for being on this journey with us.
To celebrate, we awarded 75 scholarships to students pursuing higher education, organized a week of giving for 1,000 members to receive a total of $75,000, handed out treats and more giveaways at our branches during our Anniversary Week, and shared 75 years’ worth of A+ history through our social media channels.
It’s an honor to be of service to our community these past 75 years and we look forward to continuing our efforts to support our members and earn the honor of being Austin’s Best Credit Union.
FROM THE CHAIR & PRESIDENT/CEO
In 2024, we celebrated our 75th anniversary as a credit union. Over the past 75 years, we’ve helped our members reach their financial goals and we remain dedicated to providing safety, mutual benefit, education, and support for our members’ banking and financial needs.
As we look back at our 75th year, we’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and the impact we’ve made. We continue to stand as one of the largest and strongest credit unions in Central Texas. We gave back over $5.64 million to our members and the communities we serve. We were recognized as a Top Workplace in Greater Austin for the third year in a row, voted Best Credit Union for the second year in a row, and won Best Customer Service for the third year in a row. We also celebrated our 5th year of A+ Gives with over 2,775 hours volunteered. While a lot has changed since our founding in 1949, our work to positively impact our members’ lives and the communities we serve remains strong.
The Board remains focused on supporting members with products and services that help them attain their financial goals and live their A+ lives. In 2024, members received over $2.73 million from the CashBack Checking program and more than $1.24 million in benefits via savings on lower loan rates or increased dividend earnings on share certificates through our PlusPoints Member Rewards program.
We supported members with $335 million in loans and continued to add new and improved digital tools, including updates to the A+ Mobile App and A+ Online Banking. These new features improve the user experience when opening new accounts, managing their certificates, setting up and modifying direct deposit, viewing and understanding statements, adding external accounts, and more. We’re proud of these enhancements and will continue to improve these digital platforms to offer more robust and relevant services to help you manage your money where you are.
Serving our communities is a cornerstone principle for A+FCU. We provide financial education and literacy programs for adults and youth and support Scouts BSA and Girl Scouts with tailored financial education programs to help them earn badges and introduce financial concepts. In honor of our 75th anniversary, we awarded 75 scholarships totaling $150,000 to high school graduates pursuing higher education as well as to college students pursuing education degrees. Additionally, through our spirit debit card Cash-Back Checking rewards, we gave back over $207,800 to area
schools and districts.
For our 70th anniversary in 2019, we launched A+ Gives with a year of random acts of kindness. Five years later, we continue the tradition of a year-long giveback initiative throughout the organization. Additionally, we held our third annual A+ Gives Day in October 2024 where over 450 employees volunteered 1,611 hours with 44 organizations in Central Texas and 29 organizations across Texas and the nation. Overall, the A+ Gives program saw over $168,000 given back to the Central Texas community in the form of time, monetary contributions, and other donations. We encourage you to visit aplusfcu.org/gives to see the many places Team A+ volunteered and helped in 2024.
The Board and Management team remain focused on providing our members essential banking and financial services that are both strong and stable. In 2024, A+FCU performed extremely well and made strategic decisions that strengthened the safety and security of our members’ accounts and deposits, which are further insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and the Nation Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF).
On behalf of the Board and Management, we would also like to thank our more than 500 employees for your hard work and dedication in meeting the needs of members and communities. Your continued commitment to excellent member service and community giveback is commendable.
Over the past year, we helped our members Live Their A+ Lives. We worked with members to build a budget to cut spending and start saving for an emergency. We helped members consolidate debt with lower payments and a quicker payoff time. We partnered with members to help them buy their first home. We provided fraud prevention education to members to help stop fraud before it happened. We met with members to discuss how to reach their retirement goals.
Living your A+ life is different for each of us. But for the staff, management, and Board, it comes down to providing our members with products, services, and solutions to keep their money safe and secure while partnering with them to reach their financial goals. How can we help you live your A+ life in 2025 and beyond?
Respectfully,
Landon K. Spillmann Board Chair
