KILOMBERO VALLEY HERITAGE PROJECT: LINKING THE PAST AND THE FUTURE
COLLECTING THE TRACES OF THE PAST The “Kilombero valley heritage project” intents to create a state-of-the-art museum and cultural heritage site that combines the display and preservation of ethnographic objects with the latest innovations in the field of virtual reality (VR) in Ifakara / Tanzania as well as in bustling Dar es Salaam. This locally-driven initiative emerged from the insights of a decade-long history of migration, development initiatives, modernisation in health care and infrastructure projects during which society and its culture have been transformed. Beyond serving as traditional museum only, the site nearby the burgeoning town of Ifakara offers workshops and guided tours and is designed to become a learning hub and a magnet for the younger generation as well as for tourists.
