Este documento reúne un conjunto de infraestructuras sociales desarrolladas durante los últimos años en contextos emergentes de Venezuela. Todos los proyectos responden a la participación de múltiples agentes implicados.

PICO PROYECTO DE INTERÉS COMUNAL

PROJECT OF COMMUNAL INTEREST

Estructura de acción política territorial que se enfoca en el desarrollo de estrategias y operaciones de infraestructuras en entornos donde se producen conflictos urbanos no convencionales. Han dirigido su investigación al manejo de sistemas de componentes y dispositivos técnicos, así como al aprovechamiento de recursos y energías autónomas que se combinan con el inventario de la industria formal, consiguiendo reincorporar superficies y edificaciones desactivadas al mapa de colectividad. El equipo centra su interés en procesos vinculados con nuevos tejidos de cooperación y formas de organización horizontal que utilizan el andamiaje legal para establecer sus propias regulaciones sociales, accediendo a la arquitectura como soporte de las relaciones que se producen en estos contextos emergentes.

Team operates like a territorial political action laborato the development of infrastructure strategies and operations in environments where unconventional urban conflicts exist research into management of components systems and technical devices, as well as to using resources and autonomous energies combined with formal industry inventory, to reincorporate deactivated buildings to collectivity map, across processes linked to new cooperation fabrics, using the available legal scaffolding to establish own social regulations and accessing architecture as support for relationships produced in this emerging contexts.

Es cofundado y dirigido por Marcos Coronel, Juan Carlos Castillo y Kenneth Gómez, arquitectos por la Universidad Central de enezuela, siendo investigadores y ponentes invitados en universidades e instituciones de América Latina y el Caribe.

Integrantes del equipo curatorial de la Muestra Oficial del Pabellón de Venezuela -Urban Forces- en la XV Bienal de Arquitectura de enecia 2016 y Artista Residente en la XX Bienal de Arte de La Habana 2015.

Desde 2011 han trabajado colectivamente en diversos planes y proyectos realizados en Venezuela y América Latina. Su obra ha sido premiada por la organización Curry Stone Design Prize (USA), integrando el Social Design Circle Honorees 2017, entre las 100 prácticas más relevantes de diseño social en el mundo.

Premio a la Producción Social del Hábitat por la organización Architecture Sans Frontieres International Awards (Francia) 2015, y en el Concurso Mundial de Hábitat Social y Desarrollo de la XV Bienal Panamericana de Arquitectura de Quito (Ecuador) 2016.

Otros miembros activos de PICO son Karina Domínguez, José Bastidas, Ana Karina Vielma, Adriano Pastorino, Bárbara Saman, Emanuel Bueno, Manuel Coronel, Stevenson Piña y María Isabel Ramírez, además de un importante grupo de colaboradores.

The collective is cofounded and directed by Marcos Coronel Carlos Castillo and Kenneth Gómez, architects by the Central University of Venezuela, being investigators and invited speakers in universities and institutions of Latin America and the Caribbean Curatorial team of the Venezuela Pavilion Official Exhibition -Urban Forces- at the XV Venice Biennial of Architecture 2016 Artists at the XX Havana Art Biennial 2015.

Since 2011 team have worked collectively on various plans and projects carried out in Venezuela and Latin America been awarded by Curry Stone Design Prize (USA), like a member of the Social Design Circle Honorees 2017, among 100 most relevant social design practices in the world. Habitat Social Production by the Architecture Sans Frontieres International Awards ( 2015, and World Social Habitat and Development Contest XV Pan American Architecture Biennial of Quito (Ecuador) 2016.

Other active members of PICO are Karina Domínguez Ana Karina Vielma, Adriano Pastorino, Bárbara Saman Bueno, Manuel Coronel, Stevenson Piña and María Isabel Ramírez well as an important group of collaborators.

ESTRUCTURAS DE PODER ALTERNATIVO La democracia basada en el modelo de representación política está agotada. Impulsar la transformación de la estructura del estado jerárquico piramidal y crear un nuevo sistema de poder horizontal articulado por múltiples grupos locales capaces de gestionar su propio entorno, son desafíos inminentes.

La sociedad organizada como poder popular debe consolidarse en un nuevo sujeto del estado capaz de contrarrestar la hegemonía que ejercen los grupos del capital, pero también descentralizar hacia las bases el poder antes reservado exclusivamente para las instituciones.

Un poder alternativo que no obedece a las reglas de la burocracia, ni a la lógica de mando de arriba hacia abajo, sino a la toma de decisiones directas, rechazando soluciones asistencialistas y ajenas al origen de los problemas, para establecer un régimen de autogobierno que solvente sus propias demandas.

Concretar esta fuerza requiere acoplar a cada una de las individualidades y colectivos presentes en estos lugares, y generar un intenso proceso de articulación social que permita cohesionar una agenda común. Cuestionar el enfoque clientelar del trabajo asalariado, para emprender otro sistema que facilite abordar la faena social de forma corresponsable y durante todo el tiempo necesario.

Cuáles son los tipos de oficios desplegables al interior del barrio?, Cómo se producen?, De qué manera se retribuyen?, y Cómo se mantienen en el tiempo?, son incógnitas de la participación popular. Resolver esta paradoja supone fomentar novedosas relaciones productivas, refutando el acuerdo de convivencia preestablecido dominante, para establecer una red compleja de múltiples asociaciones complementarias basadas en la cooperación y retroalimentación social.

ALTERNATIVE POWER STRUCTURES The democracy based on the model of political representation is coming to an ending. Promote the transfo rmation of the state structure, and pass from a pyramidal hierarchical to a new horizontal power system articulated by multiple local groups capable of managing their own environment are imminent challenges.

A society organized as a popular power must consolidate itself into a new component of the state capable of counteracting the hegemony exercised by the groups of the capital, but also decentralizing the power formerly reserved exclusively for institutions. An alternative power that does not obey to the rules of the bureaucracy, nor the logic of command from the top to the bottom but direct decision making, rejecting assistentialist solutions that are unrelated to the origin of problem s, to establish a system of self-government that Solvent their own demands.

To realize this force requires that each of the individualities and groups present in these places to engage, and generate an intense process of social articulation that allows a common agenda to be consolidated. To question the clientelistic approach of salaried work, and undertake another system to ease the approach of the social work in a co-responsible form and for all the necessary time.

What are the types of skills that are found within the neighborhood?, How are they produced?, How do they reciprocate? And how are they hold over time ?, this are unknowns of popular participation. Solving this paradox involves encouraging innovative productive relations, refuting the dominant pre-established coexistence agreement, to establish a complex network of multiple complementary associations based on cooperation and social feedback.

ROL DEL ARQUITECTO_URBANISMO SUBVERSIVO Hoy en día la mayoría de nuestras ciudades presentan múltiples inconsistencias, accidentes y patologías físicas y sociales en su entramado urbano, además de estar repletas de los llamados "barrios marginales", pero incluso bajo estas circunstancias, muy pocos arquitectos están conectados a un proyecto de ciudadanía: una plaza pública, un edificio cultural o un núcleo de viviendas sociales, y muchos menos a un proyecto comunitario: una casa comunal, un pequeño parque, un huerto, una cancha deportiva, o simplemente una torrentera, una escalera, una calle, una acera o una instalación de servicios.

La sociedad demanda del rol de arquitecto como agente capaz de sumarse a problemas habitualmente desapercibidos, frecuentes en asentamientos espontáneos y barrios. Propiciar intervenciones que sean capaces de cruzar el conocimiento técnico con las experticias populares, hibridando inteligencias en la toma decisiones y acciones necesarias para impulsar transformaciones contundentes.

Cambiar del personaje exclusivo para involucrarse en problemas comunes y asumir un nuevo liderazgo, siendo un actor territorial influyente situado junto a los agentes que habitan en estos entornos.Pudiendo trabajar como técnico en diseño, pero también como ciudadano en relaciones sociales, o como interlocutor político con las instituciones estatales. Cuestionar los modelos del encargo y el concurso como únicos mecanismos disponibles para acceder a un proyecto, entendiendo que cada problema de colectividad constituye una situación de oportunidad donde operar y detonar otros procesos directamente ligados a verdaderas demandas populares.

Entender que la arquitectura no es un fin en sí mismo, sino un soporte de procesos que van más allá de la propia infraestructura, proyectando la disciplina como una ciencia capaz de edificar, pero también de aproximarse al potencial programático cultural, y propiciar intensas relaciones sociales. Solo bajo esta condición de transversalidad, es posible que los arquitectos eventualmente lleguen a ser verdaderos agentes de la transformación.

ARCHITECT ROLE_ SUBVERSIVE URBAN PLANNING Nowadays most of our cities present multiple inconsistencies, accidents and physical and social pathologies in their urban webs, as well as being filled of the so-called "slums", but even under these circumstances very few architects are connected to a project of Citizenship: a public square, a cultural building or a nucleus of social housing, and much less a community project: a communal house, a small park, a sports court, or simply a staircase, a sidewalk or a service facility.

Society demands the role of architect to be an agent capable of joining to problems usually unnoticed, frequent in spontaneous settlements and neighborhoods. Provide interventions that are able to cross technical knowledge with popular experiences, hybridizing intelligences in the decision-making and actions necessary to push forward transformations.

To change from the exclusive character to one that get involved in common problems and to assume a new leadership, being an influential territorial actor located next to the agents that inhabit in these surroundings. Being able to work as a design technician, but also as a citizen in social relations, or as a political interlocutor with the state institutions. To question the models of the assignment and the competition as the only mechanisms available to access a project, understanding that each community problem constitutes a situation of opportunity to operate and detonate other processes directly linked to genuine popular demands.

To understand that architecture is not an end in itself, but a support of processes that go beyond the infrastructure, projecting the discipline as a science capable of building, but also of approaching the programmatic cultural potential, and fostering intense social relations. Only under this condition of transversality can architects eventually become true agents of transformation.

CONTEXTOS EMERGENTES: REPROGRAMACIÓN DEL TERRITORIO Y NUEVOS ECOSISTEMAS SOCIALES Sobrepoblamiento, exclusión social y precariedad son consecuencias del desbordamiento de las ciudades actuales. Múltiples situaciones urbanas configuran un mapa diferente de controversias y conflictos cívicos, ampliando el panorama de problemas sociales y aspiraciones colectivas más allá de las evidentes donde ya se produce el clásico conflicto de intereses.

Ingentes obras realizadas por el paradigma moderno: autopistas, sistemas de infraestructuras y complejos masivos, incluyendo grandes centros sociales, comerciales y financieros, desarrollados posteriormente con el auge del boom neoliberal, resultaron ineficientes en la aspiración de solventar las múltiples demandas de la sociedad creciente. Accidentes urbanos y espacios residuales, parcelas baldías y edificios sin terminar, propiedades desocupadas o simplemente abandonadas, se hicieron comunes en nuestras ciudades producto de la especulación del suelo urbano. Numerosos lotes de estacionamientos y lavados de vehículos, talleres mecánicos, depósitos o almacenes, e inmuebles subutilizados, abundan en los principales centros poblados de Venezuela y América Latina, generando congestión artificial y una acelerada expansión hacia la periferia que está produciendo otros territorios, geografías y agrupaciones de ciudadanos antes inexistentes.

Nuevos espacios autoconstruidos subversivamente desde de la inteligencia popular, sin planificación, normativa o regulación formal,se rigen por un sistema de relaciones flexibles, y constituyen los escenarios propicios donde establecer estrategias alternativas, repensar el modelo de la ciudad y las formas de edificar a partir de este conjunto de circunstancias inéditas.

La ciudad como un organismo vivo deberá ser capaz de reconfigurarse a través de acciones cívicas, sobreponiéndose a la depredación del territorio, la malversación de los recursos naturales, la contaminación y otros daños, reinventando estos tejidos en otros patrones de construcción, generando diversos ecosistemas interrelacionados, colaborativos y sostenibles.

EMERGING CONTEXTS: TERRITORY REPROGRAMMING AND NEW SOCIAL ECOSYSTEMS Overpopulation, social exclusion and precariousness are consequences of the overflow of present-day cities. Multiple urban situations form a different map of controversies and civic conflicts, extending the panorama of social problems and collective aspirations beyond the obvious where the classic conflict of interest already occurs.

The great amount of work carried out by the modern paradigm: freeways, infrastructures systems and massive complexes, including large social, commercial and financial centers, later developed with the neoliberal boom, were inefficient in the aspiration to solve the multiple demands of the growing society. Residual urban spaces, vacant plots and unfinished buildings, unoccupied or simply abandoned properties, became common in our cities as a product of urban land speculation. Numerous of parking lots and washes center of vehicles, mechanical workshops, warehouses and underutilized building abound in the main populated centers of Venezuela and Latin America, generating artificial congestion and an accelerated expansion towards the periphe of the cities that is producing other territories, geographies and Groups of citizens previously non-existent.

New spaces built unconsciously from popular intelligence, without planning or formal regulation, are ruled by a system of flexible relationships, and establish the propitious scenarios where to establish alternative strategies, to rethink the model of the city and the ways of building from this set of unknown circumstances.

The city as a living organism must be able to reconfigure itself through civic actions, overcoming the depredation of the territory, embezzlement of natural resources, pollution and other damages, reinventing these webs in other construction patterns generating diverse ecosystems that are both interrelated collaborative and sustainable.

Urban policy strategies promote physical and social transformation operations in complex citizen ecosystems, incorporating other logics of the territory organization and management protocols based on the construction of networks, fabrics and cooperative systems, from specific actions seeking to radiate progressively in a wider environment.

TOLERANCE AREAS AND COLLECTIVE COEXISTENCE

Programa de diseño y construcción colectiva que apuesta por intensos procesos de trasformación física y social para edificar espacios públicos en contextos urbanos segregados.

Program of design and collective construction, betting on intense processes of physical and social transformation to build public spaces at segregated urban contexts.

El proyecto se basa en la estrategia de operar de manera focalizada sobre territorios puntuales: lotes e inmuebles subutilizados en forma de resquicios, accidentes, residuos y otras patologías características de asentamientos populares autoconstruidos.

The project is based on the strategy of operating in a focused way on specific territories: lots and buildings underutilized in the form of cracks, accidents, residues and other pathologies characteristic of self-built popular settlements.

Establece una práctica de renovación que pone en crisis el modelo de los grandes proyectos, cuestionando la forma de planeamiento en abstracto al territorio que se caracteriza por concretar acciones a largo plazo y limitar el protagonismo social, necesitando de capital intensivo nacional y complejos procesos burocráticos.

Pequeñas operaciones que centran la atención en lo colectivo local: metas puntuales, dedicación concentrada, mínimo desgaste, resultados inmediatos y nuevas motivaciones, permiten responder a verdaderas demandas de colectividad, estableciendo nuevas relaciones de convivencia y renovando infraestructuras y lotes señalados por los propios habitantes.

It establishes a practice of renewal that puts in crisis the model of big projects, questioning the abstract way of planning to the territory, characterized by long term actions and to limit the social protagonism, requiring national intensive capital and complex bureaucratic processes. Small operations that focus attention on local situations: specific goals, concentrated dedication, minimal wear, immediate results and new motivations, allow to respond to true demands of community, establishing new relations of coexistence and renewing infrastructures and lots designated by the inhabitants themselves.

Cada intervención obedece a una iniciativa popular, acompañada de una historia de lucha que agrupa diversos líderes, individuos y asociaciones de vecinos, tras la conquista del espacio.

El proyecto se desarrolla bajo el formato de taller, con la participación de colectivos locales, invitados foráneos y toda la comunidad involucrada haciendo uso de las instituciones del estado, en medio de un proceso pedagógico donde existe transferencia de conocimientos y experiencias. Se trata de un proyecto que busca transformar categorías fundamentales que rigen la vida en colectivo: el uso del tiempo y el espacio, propulsando la cohesión barrial.

Each intervention obeys a popular initiative, accompanied by a struggle history wich brings together various leaders, individuals and neighborhood associations, before the conquest of space.

The project is developed in a workshop form, with the participation of local groups, foreign guests and all the community involved, making use of state institutions, in the midst of a pedagogical process where transfer of knowledge and experiences exist. It is a project that seeks to transform fundamental categories that govern collective life: the use of time and space, propelling neighborhood cohesion.

Viviendas Barriales Productivas se centra en el prototipado de infraestructuras domesticas que combinan aspectos de vivienda de barrio y actividades productivas a escala familiar. Su formulación está basada en el diseño de una política que alcanza nuevas comprobaciones y paradigmas, refutando modelos preconcebidos y estériles.

Un grupo de casos inminentes, atomizados por todo el territorio del barrio, son escogidos democráticamente por la comunidad en asambleas populares, determinando lo primeros puntos de intervención aplicada a un ambicioso plan. Esta contundente estrategia busca generar focos de transformación a partir de precisas acupunturas, articulando una red expandida de viviendas, espacios de cooperación y zonas productivas.

El proyecto configura 15 prototipos de unidades domesticas que obedecen a casos reales, haciendo uso de materiales, procedimientos y tecnologías constructivas locales combinadas con los insumos provenientes del inventario formal de la industria.

Cada uno de los prototipos soporta un proceso de revisión que es validado por la comunidad antes de su construcción, generando un dossier de aplicaciones técnicas trasmisibles a otras situaciones afines.

Productive barrial housings focuses on the prototyping of domestic infrastructures that combine aspects of the popular neighborhood housing and productive activities on a family scale. Its formulation is based on the design of a policy that reaches new checks and paradigms, refuting preconceived and sterile models.

A group of imminent cases, atomized throughout the neighborhood, are democratically chosen by the community in popular assemblies, determining the first points of intervention applied to an ambitious plan. This strong strategy seeks to generate transformation hotspots from precise acupunctures, articulating an expanded network of housing, cooperation spaces and productive areas.

The project configures 15 prototypes of domestic units that obey real cases, making use of materials, procedures and local construction technologies combined with the regular supplies from the formal inventory of the industry.

Each of the prototypes supports a revision process that is validated by the community before its construction, generating a dossier of technical applications transmissible to other related situations.

The project is developed from a perspective where the neighborhood is a large ecosystem composed of three interrelated dimensions: Environmental, Social and Territorial.

1 Dimensión Ambiental: Desarrolla una comprensión detallada de las cualidades naturales existentes. Geología de suelos, topografías, tipos de vegetación, microclimas y habitantes son factores determinantes al momento de desarrollar una operación medioambiental. Abarca la gestión progresiva de futuras fuentes de energías sostenibles que cubran servicios no proporcionados por la ciudad: Alimentos en patios familiares, quebradas y zonas de cultivos comunes y gestión de residuos.

2 Dimensión Social: Persigue la consolidación de una sólida organización colectiva capaz de propiciar espacios de participación para cohesionar fuerzas populares, técnicos e instituciones, estableciendo convenios y solventes redes de trabajo. Comedor popular, sala técnica e intensas agendas políticas y culturales movilizan espacios de intercambio y discusión de lo público.

3 Dimensión Territorial: Impulsa nuevas formas de cohabitar.

Unifica sectores de barrio desdibujando límites y constituyendo protocolos de convivencia solidaria. Un plan de reordenamiento físico territorial redefine zonas de espacio público, vías de acceso, áreas de seguridad bajo las cuerdas de alta tensión, entre otros.

1 Environmental Dimension: Develops a detailed understanding of the existing natural qualities. Geology of soils, topographies, types of vegetation, microclimates and inhabitants are determining factors when developing an environmental operation. It covers the progressive management of future sources of sustainable energy that guarante services not provided by the city: Food in family patios, streams and areas of common crops and waste management.

2 Social Dimension: It seeks the consolidation of a solid collective organization capable of fostering spaces of participation in order to unite popular forces, technicians and institutions, establishing agreements and solvents networks. Popular dining room, technical room and intense political and cultural agendas mobilize spaces of exchange and discussion of the public.

3 Territorial Dimension: It promotes new forms of cohabitation. It unifies neighborhood sectors by blurring boundaries and constituting protocols of solidary coexistence. A territorial physical reorganization plan redefines areas of public space, access roads, security areas under high-tension ropes, among others.

Serie de operaciones impulsan la sutura de la más prominente vía de circulación de la ciudad. Un conjunto de zonas de intercambio acopladas a los costados de la Avenida Bolívar de Caracas, replantean el uso de este principal eje donde se concentran enormes masas de concreto impuestas por el plan desarrollista de la modernidad. Superficies e instalaciones culturales parasitan una estructura de 12.000m2 continuos, reactivando múltiples espacios cívicos.

INTEGRATED SYSTEM OF PUBLIC SPACES

Series of operations drive the suture of the city's most prominent circulation road. A set of exchange zones coupled to the sides of the Bolivar Avenue of Caracas, rethink the use of this main axis which concentrate masses of concrete imposed by the developmental plan of modernity. Surfaces and cultural installations parasitize a continuous 12,000m2 structure, reactivating multiple civic spaces.

New dynamics revalue the street as a space for dialogue and intermediation, invading the voids rejected by large equipment and infrastructures. This urban landscape aims to rescue the original scale of the city, promoting an open and collective ecosystem based on the principle of the right to the city.

Este proyecto es símbolo de un proceso de conquista cultural que deriva de la confrontación por la toma de la calle como espacio de transformación. Se localiza en la zona mas intensa del centro de la ciudad, muy cerca de la plaza principal, comercios e instituciones munipales, en una parcela subutilizada donde funcionaron oficinas técnicas de la empresa pública de telécomunicaciones, hasta la vandalización de sus instalaciones durante protestas violentas en febrero de 2014.

La organización popular ve la oportunidad de recuperar la infraestructura y consigue tomar el edificio, reprogramándolo con el fin de desarrollar un espacio de creación cultural que avale diferentes actividades culturales desarrolladas por agrupaciones de jóvenes. El Núcleo articula un edificio preexistente con una serie de nuevos aparatos que se apoyan sobre la estructura original, unificando espacios operativos en un solo sistema compuesto por diferentes unidades productivas: Huerto urbano y café restaurante, laboratorio de imagen, audiovisuales, redes y medios sociales, estudio de grabación y sala en ensayo musical, galería de exposiciones y taller de usos múltiples, skatepark, cancha multiuso y plaza de conciertos, constituyen las áreas del conjunto.

El uso de contenedores responde a una condición preestablecida que permite aprovechar estos objetos una vez que fueron fletados para transportar el equipamiento técnico adquirido como dotación del núcleo, concentrando recursos económicos en los dispositivos de transferencia tecnológica y recursos técnicos en la construcción.

This project is a symbol of a cultural conquest process derived from the confrontation by taking the street as a space for transformation. It is located in the most intense area of the city center, very close to the main square, shops and munipal institutions, in an underutilized plot where technical offices of the public telecommunications company operated, until the vandalization of its facilities during violent protests in February 2014.

The popular organization sees the opportunity to recover the infrastructure and manages to take the building, reprogramming it in order to develop a space of cultural creation that endorses different cultural activities developed by young groups. The nucleus articulates a preexisting building with a series of new devices supported on the original structure, unifying operating spaces in a single system composed by different production units: urban vegetable garden and cafe restaurant, image laboratory, audiovisuals, networks and social media, recording studio and a musical rehearsal room, exhibition gallery and a multipurpose workshop, skatepark, multipurpose court and concert hall, constitute the whole area.

Shipping containers used responds to a pre-established condition that allows to take advantage of these objects once it had been chartered to transport technical equipment acquired as a endowment of the project, concentrating economic resources on technological transfer devices and technical resources in construction.

La estrategia consiste en articular el viejo edificio con estos nuevos dispositivos, aprovechando estructuras excedentes generadas comúnmente por la industria de la construcción, para instalar prótesis y extensiones de los contenedores, bidones de aceite en la fabricación de componentes de ventanas, tableros de pvc de alta densidad como superficies de cubierta, recortes de madera, fibra de vidrio, latones galvanizados, entre diferentes materiales con segundas vidas, piezas y componentes que presentan mínimas imperfecciones obtenidos al registrar en los vertederos de materiales provenientes de otras obras.

The approach is to articulate the old building structure with these new devices, taking advantage of surplus structures commonly generated by the construction industry, to install prostheses and extensions of the shipping containers, oil drums to the window components manufacture, high density pvc boards such as deck surfaces, wood trimmings, fiberglass , galvanized brass, among different second lives materials, parts and components with minimal imperfections obtained when registering landfills of materials from other works.

La Zona de Producción Cultural no es sólo un edificio que pertenece a un grupo cultural, aunque es manejado por artistas y creadores urbanos, irradia a toda la comunidad, emitiendo programas articulados con otras organizaciones dentro y fuera del país. Estos grupos realizan producciones gráficas, musicales y audiovisuales, al mismo tiempo que la plaza, la cancha de baloncesto y el skatepark son utilizados regularmente por las agrupaciones locales, de la misma forma que la sala polivalente recibe reuniones periódicas de vecinos, conferencias, foros de cine y conversaciones públicas, abriendo el espacio al conjunto de la sociedad.

Cultural Production Zone is not only a building belonging to a cultural group, although it is managed by artists and urban creators, it also radiates to the whole community, emitting programs articulated with other organizations inside and outside the country. These groups make graphic, musical and audiovisual productions, at the same time that square, basketball court, and skatepark are used regularly by local crews, in the same way that polyvalent hall receives periodic neighbors meetings, conferences, cinema forums and public conversations, opening the space to the whole society.

SYSTEM OF COMMUNITY FACILITIES

Este equipamiento forma parte de una serie de protocolizaciones urbanas enfocadas en legitimar asentamientos informales que responden al acuerdo donde se establece la cota 1100 como máximo nivel habitable al interior del Parque Nacional Waraira Repano, principal ecosistema natural del área metropolitana de Caracas.

El proyecto se centra en propiciar un equilibrio entre el medio ambiente construido y el manejo de la naturaleza ocupada, optimizando infraestructuras existentes de signo estratégico para el barrio.

Las favelas de Caracas están construidas a partir de la lógica de edificaciones que se arriostran entre sí, dada su estructura de tejidos, distinta a la configuración del lote o la parcela. Estas edificaciones comparten cimentaciones y a la vez todo el conjunto de sistemas estructurales. La construcción se basa en generar operaciones de conformación de suelos, estabilización de muros, taludes y nivelaciones, entre una diversidad de soluciones técnicas más próximas a la función de las ingenierías, donde la arquitectura de diseño pasa a un segundo plano, abriendo paso a decisiones pragmáticas.

This equipment is part of a series of urban protocols focused on legitimizing informal settlements that respond to the agreement where the 1100 level is established as the maximum living level within the National Park Waraira Repano, the main natural ecosystem of the metropolitan area of Caracas.

The project focuses on promoting a balance between the built environment and the management of the nature occupied, optimizing existing infrastructures of strategic sign for the barrio.

The favelas of Caracas are built from the logic of buildings that come together, given their fabric structure, different from the configuration of the lot or plot. These buildings share foundations and at the same time the whole set of structural systems. The construction is based on generating operations of soil formation, stabilization of walls, slopes and leveling, between a variety of technical solutions closer to the function of engineering, where the design architecture takes second place, making way for pragmatic decisions.

La intervención respalda la consolidación de un espacio preservado por jóvenes de la comunidad para su autoconstrucción como instalación deportiva, priorizando un sentido más lúdico y recreativo, despegado del modelo de competición y alto rendimiento que sobresale en la sociedad neoliberal. Una cancha que no pretende dimensiones estándar, por el contrario obedece a parámetros similares a los de su entorno: morfología irregular, orientación accidental, disposiciones no convencionales.

The intervention supports the consolidation of a space preserved by young people of the community for their self-construction as a sports facility, prioritizing a more playful and recreational sense, detached from the model of competition and high performance that stands out in neoliberal society. A court that does not intend standard dimensions, on the contrary obeys similar parameters to those of its environment: irregular morphology, accidental orientation, nonconventional dispositions.

Tres niveles acoplan el polideportivo con la veredera a través de la extensión de un hibrido escalera-rampa: Una plataforma de juegos con balón, confinada entre la montaña y la celda transparente. Una superficie plegada con tribunas, oficina bajo las gradas y gimnasio para ejercicios de fuerza. Un plano de ping pong y juegos de mesa. Por debajo de estas construcciones se conduce una torrentera que permite descargar el agua de la montaña conectando con el sistema de drenajes. La pared de contención presenta perforaciones para el rebose de humedad abundante en esta geografía.

Three levels couple the sports center with the runner through the extension of a hybrid stair-ramp: A platform of games with balloon, confined between the mountain and the transparent cell. A folded surface with grandstands, office under the stairs and gym for strength exercises. A ping pong table and board games. Underneath these constructions a torrent is carried that allows to discharge the water of the mountain connecting with the system of drains. The containment wall presents perforations for the abundant moisture overflow in this geography.

Con el apogeo inmobiliario de los años 80s, se hizo común la práctica de control del territorio en los principales barrios de Caracas que se opusieron al proceso de desplazamiento de sus habitantes. Sendas disputas transformaron estos asentamientos en zonas cerradas, donde no es habitual la presencia de foráneos. El proyecto consigue extinguir esta barrera entre jóvenes del sector y otros barrios cercanos, quienes con frecuencia hacen uso del polideportivo, estableciendo nuevas relaciones de fraternidad entre comunidades.

With the real estate boom of the 1980s, it became common practice to control the territory in the main districts of Caracas that opposed the process of displacement of its inhabitants. These disputes transformed these settlements in closed areas, where the presence of outsiders is not usual. The project manages to extinguish this barrier between young people from the sector and other nearby neighborhoods, who often make use of the sports center, establishing new relationships of fraternity between communities.

Espacios sin construir no se ubican fácilmente en favelas densas, como lo son numerosos asentamientos del oeste de Caracas.

Durante toda la segunda mitad del siglo XX, clases populares que migraron del campo a la ciudad, atraídos por la vorágine del consumo y el acceso al comercio creciente, conquistaron por masas cada metro cuadrado de suelo urbano sin regulación.

Unbuilding spaces are not easily located in dense favelas, as are the settlements in the west of Caracas. Throughout the second half of the twentieth century, popular classes that migrated from the countryside to the city, attracted by the maelstrom of consumption and access to growing commerce, conquered for every square meter of unregulated urban land.

Los Frailes de Catia cuenta con una magnifica porción de terreno sin ocupar, que alcanza los 750 metros cuadrados en pleno centro del barrio. Un vacío planificado y reservado por los propios habitantes durante más de veinte años, con la expectativa de edificar un espacio de propiedad colectiva a futuro.

Los Frailes of Catia has a magnificent portion of unoccupied land, which reaches 750 square meters in the center of the neighborhood.

A vacuum planned and reserved by the inhabitants themselves for more than twenty years, with the expectation of building a collective property space into the future.

El terreno presenta un desnivel de nueve metros desde el punto más bajo hasta su opuesto, sugiriendo la configuración de varias plazas en una parcela que ya de por sí presenta las características de múltiples terrazas. Toda la construcción permite mejorar precarias infraestructuras de servicios, accesos a viviendas y caminerías debilitadas por el uso incesante.

The terrain presents a difference of nine meters from the lowest point to its opposite. It suggests the configuration of several squares in a plot that by itself already presents the characteristics of multiple terraces. All the construction allows to improve precarious infrastructures of services, access to houses and walks weakened by the incessant use.

Voceros principales de la comunidad proponen el concepto de parlamento abierto, más que una casa comunitaria, impulsando un carácter más político y democrático del espacio. Una tribuna participativa para deliberar y confrontar los asuntos públicos.

Key community spokesmen propose the concept of an open parliament, rather than a community house, promoting a more political and democratic nature of space. A participatory forum to deliberate and confront public affairs.

CIRCUITO DE ARTICULACIÓN LOCAL Y ANDAMIO CULTURAL

La Nave Muro de Ánimas es un artefacto similar a las grúas montantes de la bahía, capaces de engranar todas las funciones a través de un único componente industrial: Superficies, cobertura, facilidades técnicas y servicios se articulan en esta pieza bajo la misma lógica transpolada a un espacio de uso público. Está estrategia obedece a la condición de establecer una lectura homologada con el ecosistema de infraestructuras existentes en el entorno industrial. Bajo esta lógica, la construcción se realiza con soldadores y constructores de la comunidad que manejan la tecnología de los astilleros, basada en el diseño de patrones, la fabricación de piezas en serie, el manejo de sistemas de acoplamiento y módulos replicables. Materiales e insumos básicos provienen de la ferretera popular, además de perfiles y otros componentes de acero que presentan mínimas imperfecciones, separados del inventario de la industria metalúrgica de la ciudad.

La intervención se sitúa en la comunidad de Casablanca, antiguo asentamiento naval al este de la Bahía de La Habana, habitada por una clase obrera abundante en conocimientos de manufactura.

En este proceso se consigue activar un espacio físico residual, anulado por las fallas de estabilización que presenta el lote. La operación fundamental consiste en corregir esta patología mediante ingeniería pesada, facilitando la conformación de suelos, estabilización de pendientes y el refuerzo de contrafuertes hormigonados, evitando el colapso de las paredes de contención y generando los soportes para el posterior ensamblaje de los elementos que resultan del taller. Todo el trabajo de autoconstrucción del proyecto se desarrolla en 28 días continuos, logrando disponer diversos grupos de fuerza de trabajo por cada una de las tareas de obra. La cuadrilla de carpintería de encofrados realiza tableros a partir de recortes de madera de segunda mano.

Estos tableros son instalados, retirados y vueltos a instalar constantemente, utilizando mínimos recursos técnicos hasta vaciar más de 160 m3 de concreto. De la misma manera, el manejo de los metales se realiza a partir de una línea de producción que logra encadenar la fabricación de hasta catorce (14) elementos por día.

SHIP WALL OF ANIMAS

LOCAL ARTICULATION CIRCUIT AND CULTURAL SCAFFOLDING

The Ship Wall of Animas is an artefact similar to the cranes of the bay, capable of interlock all functions through a single industrial component: Surfaces, cover, technical facilities and services are articulated in this piece under the same logic transferable to a space for public use. This strategy obeys the condition for establishing an approved rendering with the existing infrastructures ecosystem present at the industrial environment. Under this logic, the construction is made through welders and community builders who manage the shipyards technology, based on pattern design, series parts production, handling of coupling systems and replicable modules.

Materials and basic supplies come from the popular hardware, in addition to other steel components with minimal imperfections, separated from the main inventory of the metallurgical industry of the city.

The intervention is located at Casablanca community, an old shipyard settlement to east of Havana Bay, which is habited by a working class plentiful in manufacture knowledge.

This process manages to activate a residual physical space, annulled by a geographical condition. Main operation is to correct these pathology through heavy engineering, facilitating the soils formation, slopes stabilization and concrete buttresses reinforcement, avoiding walls collapse, and generating the supports for subsequent assembly of the metalic elements.

Whole self-construction work of the project is carried out in 28 continuous days, making available various workforce groups for each of the work tasks. The formwork carpentry crew makes boards from cut-outs of second-hand wood. These boards are installed, removed and reinstalled constantly, using minimal technical resources to apply more than 160 m3 of concrete. In the same way, handling of metals is made from a production line accomplishing to chain the manufacture of up to fourteen (14) elements each day.

Seguidamente una sucesión de estancias de circulación y un último nivel vinculado a la peatonal del sector alto, como lugar de encuentro, avistamiento.

All the infrastructure includes a series of devices that favor connectivity: elevators, stairs, ramps and floors, allow to communicate neighborhood sectors previously unconnected, establishing a relationship environment that increases the capacity of neighborhood deployment for the development of cultural activities, sport and Social exchange in different strata of use: First level is in contact with the main street, the lowest level of the terrain is a small area for meetings and board games for seniors. A larger second, ideal for mass events and multipurpose activities. Then a succession of stays of circulation and a last level linked to the pedestrian high sector, as a meeting place and sighting.

MÓDULO MIXTO POLIFUNCIONAL El proyecto consiste en la reestructuración de una vivienda afectada por el desastre natural del deslave, producido en el año 1999 a causa de fuertes precipitaciones que ocasionaron incontrolables aludes de barro e inundaciones. Posteriormente, la vivienda fue parcialmente habilitada por los propios habitantes, con la expectativa de ubicar un recinto de reuniones para actividades de interés entre los vecinos, hasta su definitiva transformación.

Se trata de una pequeña edificación ubicada en el epicentro del barrio, lugar estratégico de intercambio social que representa una estupenda oportunidad para la creciente dinámica del sector.

Durante cinco semanas de construcción, se realizaron incontables tareas de organización y obra, ejecutadas por una importante fuerza de trabajo proveniente de la misma comunidad. Múltiples maestros de la construcción, más de 50 jóvenes inexpertos, voceros y líderes sociales, colaboradores, visitantes e instituciones participaron activamente en cada una de las fases de trabajo.

El edificio está conformado por una planta baja que integra un único ambiente equipado para danza, cine, teatro, deportes de salón, sala de computación, sala de lectura y ludoteca, más un área para servicios generales donde existen salas sanitarias, cocina, vestidores y depósito. Al fondo de la parcela, un patio interno y posible huerto comunitario. Al exterior, una plazoleta de encuentro y jardines ubicados en las veredas laterales como terrazas compartidas con los vecinos adyacentes.

MIXED MULTIFUNCTIONAL MODULE The project consists in the restructuring of a house affected by the natural disaster of the landslide, produced in 1999 due to heavy rainfall that caused uncontrollable avalanches of mud and floods.

Subsequently, the dwelling was partially enabled by the inhabitants themselves, with the expectation of locating a meeting place for activities of interest among the neighbors, until their final transformation.

It is a small building located in the epicenter of the popular neighborhood, a strategic place of social exchange that represents a great opportunity for the growing dynamics of the sector. During five weeks of construction, countless tasks of organization and work were executed by an important labour force coming from the same community. Multiple master builders, more than 50 inexperienced young men, spokespersons and social leaders, collaborators, institutions and visitors actively participated in each of the phases of work.

The building consists of a ground floor that integrates a single space equipped for dance, cinema, theater, sports hall, computer room, reading room and playroom, plus an area for general services where there are sanitary rooms, kitchen, dressing rooms and deposit. In the background of the plot, an internal patio and a possible community garden. On the outside, a meeting square and gardens located in the sidewalks like terraces shared with the adjacent neighbors.

El primer nivel se logra transparentar incorporando nuevos cerramientos de exteriores, elaborados a partir de una línea de premoldeados de hormigón con insertos de tubos de pvc. El sistema experimenta una construcción que se ajusta al ambiente tropical por medio de componentes no convencionales: cerramientos verticales con entramados calados para la circulación del aire y luz natural, manteniendo perfectamente aclimatado el espacio sin necesidad de recursos mecánicos.

El segundo nivel aprovecha la losa de concreto disponible como suelo de actividades. Sus graderías móviles permiten configurar la plaza según el uso, admitiendo un aforo asambleario de142m2 bajo sombra.

La cubierta se soporta por una estructura independiente de la casa, evitando agregar cargas improbables a la resistencia de las columnas anteriores. Cada uno de los nuevos puntales está constituido por un tronco de cuatro tubos que a medida que crecen, despliegan ramas bifurcadas y quebradas a distintas alturas, siendo el sostén de la rampa de acceso y los techos.

En la noche, la casa comunal funciona como una gran lámpara irradiante.Finalmente la infraestructura se convierte en un hito referencial donde confluye todo el barrio, siendo el nuevo espacio de actividades, además de reposicionar el valor de la convivencia colectiva como aspiración histórica de la comunidad.

The first level is achieved by incorporating new exterior enclosures, made from a line of precast concrete with inserts of pvc tubes. The system undergoes a construction that adapts to the tropical environment by means of unconventional components: vertical enclosures with openings for air circulation and natural light, keeping the space perfectly acclimated without the need of mechanical resources.

The second level takes advantage of the reinforced concrete slab available as an activity floor. It has mobile stands that allow adapt the square according to the different uses, admitting an assembly capacity of 142m2 under shade.

The roof is supported by an independent structure, avoiding adding improbable loads to the previous columns resistance. Each of the new support is constituted by a trunk of four circular tubes that according to their growth, unfold open and broken branches to different heights, being the support of the access ramp and the roof that project shadow to the air square.

At night, the communal house functions as a great radiating lamp.

Finally, the infrastructure becomes a landmark where the whole neighborhood converges, being the new space for political, cultural and educational activities of residents, besides repositioning the value of collective living as a historical aspiration of the community.

El espacio disponible es una vivienda autoconstruida que funcionó como sala de apuestas y licorería, siendo un lugar vulnerable a la convivencia de la comunidad. Está ubicada en la entrada de La Ye, encrucijada que le da su nombre a este sector de Petare, uno de los barrios más densos de Caracas y América Latina.

The available space is a self-built house that functioned as a betting and liquor store, being a vulnerable place to the community coexistence. It is located at the La Ye entrance, a crossroad that gives its name to this sector of Petare, one of the densest favelas in Caracas and Latin America.

La edificación consta de dos plantas: el nivel basamento de la vivienda propiamente dicha, distribuido en 120 m2 de diferentes estancias segregadas y conectadas por un pasillo central, desprovisto de iluminación natural, con apenas mínimos huecos de ventilación en la fachada, además de un nivel de construcciones inacabadas, exhibiendo cabillas expuestas a la espera de futuros crecimientos. Perimetralmente, una escalera que asciende en el barrio entre la masa de construcciones.

The building has two floors: the basement level of the house itself, distributed in 120 m2 of different segregated and connected rooms trough a central corridor, devoid of natural lighting, with only minimal ventilation holes in facade, in addition to a level of unfinished constructions, displaying exposed steel bars awaiting future growth.

Perimetrally, a staircase ascending in the neighborhood among the mass constructions.

El punto de partida es la transformación integral de la vivienda para su recuperación como espacio comunitario de usos múltiples. La necesidad básica sobre la que se articula toda la intervención consiste en la construcción de una cancha deportiva que sustituya al tablero improvisado de la calle. La platabanda se convierte en estadio de baloncesto que integra una pequeña grada y terraza al aire libre para el desarrollo de diferentes actividades recreativas complementarias.

El primer nivel atiende un programa más amplio que responde a su vez a necesidades detectadas en el transcurso del proyecto. Se reconfigura toda la planta sin divisiones, consiguiendo organizar estudio de grabación, taller multiuso, sala de informática, estar, baños y cocina. La entrada de la vivienda se transforma en un espacio abierto que a su vez funciona como plaza de articulación exterior - interior, conectando escalera y calle, y permitiendo establecer una nueva lectura del espacio público.

The starting point is the integral transformation of housing for its recovery as a multipurpose community space. The basic need on which the whole intervention is articulated consists in construction of a sports court which replaces the improvised street basketball board.

The rooftop becomes a basketball stadium integrating a small grandstand and outdoor terrace for the development of different complementary recreational activities.

First level offers a broader program responding in turn to needs detected in the course of the project. The whole plant is reconfigured without divisions, getting organize recording studio, multipurpose workshop, computer room, living, bathrooms and kitchen. House access is transformed into an open space which in turn functions as an articulation place between exterior - interior, connecting ladder and street, finally allowing to establish a new reading of public space.

La estrategia de trabajo se basa en conformar cuatro equipos transversalmente conectados: Diseño, Identidad, Actividades y Comunicación, articulando diferentes agentes implicados en el proceso.

El grupo de Diseño, encargado de la definición del programa de usos, estrategias de intervención, así como la planificación de obra. Identidad, definir el nombre, la imagen representativa y los elementos simbólicos asociados al proyecto. Actividades, plantear un programa de eventos que tendrían lugar durante el transcurso de la obra para impulsar el espacio y sus futuros usos. Y Comunicación, desarrollar un trabajo de documentación capaz de trasmitir la actividad dentro y fuera de la comunidad a partir de una bitácora del día a día de la obra.

Durante el análisis y diagnóstico conjunto se establecieron necesidades básicas y consensos para trabajar sobre objetivos comunes. Siendo la toma de decisiones un proceso en el que se combinaron en tiempo real, soluciones tácticas y de acción directa, suficientemente flexibles para amoldarse al contexto y responder a las cuestiones coyunturales y logísticas, además de todos los cambios o variaciones que se depuraron en el propio proceso. Esta metodología procesual y dinámica, bajo la máxima de “aprender y hacer”, hizo posible la ejecución del proyecto en el plazo fijado.

The work strategy is based on forming four transversely connected teams: Design, Identity, Activities and Communication, articulating different agents involved in the process.

The Design group, in charge of defining the uses program, intervention strategies, as well as the work planning. Identity, define the name, representative image and symbolic elements associated with the project. Activities, to propose a program of events that would take place during the course of the work to promote the space and its future uses. And Communication, develop a documentation work capable of transmitting the activity inside and outside the community through a day to day working binnacle.

During the joint analysis and diagnosis, basic needs and consensus were established to work on common objectives. Being the decision making a process in which real-time tactical and direct-action solutions were combined, flexible enough to conform to the context and to respond to conjunctural and logistical issues, as well as all the changes or variations that are due to the own project dynamics. This processual methodology, under the maxim of "learn and do", made possible the project execution within the set deadline.

La bienal de Arte de La Habana se ha enfocado de manera sistemåtica en la difusión museogråfica de obras críticas de la realidad política alrededor del mundo. Estas obras son desarrolladas por autores de contextos donde las contradicciones del sistema global operan sobre el conflicto, pero al mismo tiempo promueven cambios en los procesos de transformación de las estructuras preestablecidas dominantes. El Centro de Arte Contemporåneo Wilfredo Lam (organizador) replantea la dimensión de estas acciones, derivando del enfoque crítico, a la pråctica de intervenciones tangibles a escala local, al mismo tiempo que redefine toda expresión artística como herramienta de trabajo capaz de producir acciones sensibles a la convivencia pública en entornos de ciudadanía, como mÊtodo de contacto renovatorio entre organizaciones populares – Estado – territorio.

La construcciĂłn se enfoca en solventar patologĂ­as del edificio original a travĂŠs del saneamiento de partes y la fabricaciĂłn de refuerzos estructurales, preparando al edificio para recibir otras aplicaciones tĂŠcnicas como apoyos e instalaciones parasitarias.

El cerramiento de exterior funciona como soporte de una futura envolvente vegetal. Esponjamiento, hibridaciĂłn y el resalte de preexistencias son las claves para significar la intervenciĂłn.

The construction focuses on solving pathologies of the original building through the sanitation of parts and the manufacture of structural reinforcements, preparing the building to receive other technical applications such as supports and parasitic facilities. The exterior enclosure acts as a support for a future plant envelope.

Sponging, hybridization and the highlight preexistences are the keys to signifying the intervention.

Plaza multiequipada, producto de transformar infraestructuralmente la chancha del barrio, subutilizada por escala y ausencia de oferta programática, quedando técnicamente abandonada desde su construcción original en 2003, como parte de la planta física destinada a la realización de los juegos nacionales deportivos.

La intervención recupera un espacio deportivo importante para la comunidad, reorganizando los ambientes existentes para integrar una serie de programas como biblioteca, estudio de grabación musical, salón de danza, gimnasio, parque biosaludable, sala de computación y mercado. Esta superficie de actividades se abre hacia la calle como extensión del espacio público. Excluye muros y cerramientos, pudiendo ser utilizada sin prohibiciones.

Un conjunto de operaciones constructivas adicionan aparatos complementarios, optimizando las instalaciones originales.

Extensión de la rampa para personas con movilidad reducida que conecta la calle con las gradas y sala flexible en segundo y tercer nivel. Al igual que un sistema de bastidores metálicos y parasoles de protección solar en fachada que permiten reducir la incidencia calórica. Un tragaluz de techo, reemplazando láminas de cubierta deterioradas, nuevos pavimentos y vegetación predominante.

Multi equipped plaza, product of infraestructurally transforming the neighborhood's sport court, underutilized by scale and absence of programmatic offer, being abandoned since its original construction in 2003, as part of the physical plant destined to the realization of national sports games.

The intervention recovers an important sports space for the community, reorganizing the existing environments to integrate a series of programs such as library, music recording studio, dance hall, gym, bio health park, computer room and market. This activity area opens onto the street as an extension of the public space. Excludes walls and enclosures, and can be used without prohibitions.

A set of constructive operations add complementary devices, optimizing the original building. Extension of the ramp for people with reduced mobility that connects the street with the stands and flexible rooms in second and third level. It also has a system of metallic frames and sunshades of solar protection in facade that allow to reduce the heat incidence. A roof skylight, replacing deteriorated roofing sheets, new pavements and predominant vegetation.

La imponente escala que presenta la edificación sumada al cronograma establecido para su construcción, convoca el trabajo exhaustivo de un gran número de personas, especialmente jóvenes del sector y vecinos interesados en reponer el espacio, asumiendo la custodia y gestión de sus instalaciones una vez finalizado y operativo, pasando a formar el principal sitio de reunión la comunidad.

A dos años de su reapertura, la plaza se mantiene vigente recibiendo los principales juegos interbarrios de la ciudad y múltiples agendas.

The imposing scale presented by the building, together with the schedule established for its construction, calls for the exhaustive work of a large number of people, especially young people of the sector and neighbors interested in replenishing the space, assuming the custody and management of their facilities once completed And operational, becoming the main meeting place of the community.

La construcción se enfoca en solventar patologías del edificio original a través del saneamiento de partes y la fabricación de refuerzos estructurales, preparando al edificio para recibir otras aplicaciones técnicas como apoyos e instalaciones parasitarias.

El cerramiento de exterior funciona como soporte de una futura envolvente vegetal. Esponjamiento, hibridación y el resalte de preexistencias son las claves para significar la intervención.

The construction focuses on solving pathologies of the original building through the sanitation of parts and the manufacture of structural reinforcements, preparing the building to receive other technical applications such as supports and parasitic facilities. The exterior enclosure acts as a support for a future plant envelope.

Sponging, hybridization and the highlight preexistences are the keys to signifying the intervention.

Pinto Salinas es un pequeño barrio intersticial atrapado en la ''trama urbana formal de la ciudad''. El sector Las 3 Marías cuenta con un solar en magnífica situación dentro de la estructura del barrio, siendo un potencial lugar para convertirse en importante afluente de usos públicos, donde solventar problemas de canalizaciones de agua potable e improvisados vertederos de basura.

El proyecto requiere un nivel de participación activa por parte de técnicos e instituciones junto a la fuerza de trabajo local, poniendo en práctica procedimientos que generen sentido de apropiación y corresponsabilidad. Un espacio construido no sólo “para”, sino “por” la comunidad. El ejercicio plantea una reivindicación de la figura del arquitecto-obrero como un agente más del proyecto, que no se distingue ni sobresale, sino que se camufla e incorpora al proceso de forma trasversal.

La comunidad demanda de una pequeña tribuna o lugar de encuentro para asambleas y actividades cotidianas. Un espacio público para sentarse a conversar en la tarde. Un ágora en el que no hacer nada y poder hacerlo todo a su vez, suficientemente delimitado para que no vuelva a convertirse en foco de anarquía, pero lo bastante abierto para permitir toda clase de usos espontáneos.

Se plantea un sistema sencillo, compuesto por una estructura metálica de triángulos organizados sistemáticamente, hasta construir una topografía artificial capaz de amoldarse a la pendiente irregular del terreno, acompañado de una cubierta ligera y transparente que permite ser colonizada por trinitarias y enredaderas, para formar un área de sombra.

Pinto Salinas is a small interstitial favela trapped in the ''city formal urban plot''. The 3 Marías sector has a site in a magnificent situation within the neighborhood structure, being a potential place to become an important tributary of public uses, where to solve problems of potable water pipes and improvised garbage dumps.

The project requires an active participation level by technicians and institutions joint with local workforce, putting into practice procedures that generate ownership sense and co-responsibility. A space built not only "for", but "by" the community. The exercise propose a vindication of the the architect-worker figure as an project agent, which does not distinguish or excel, but camouflages and incorporates to the process in a cross-cutting way.

The community demands a small grandstand or meeting place for assemblies and daily activities. A public space to sit and chat in the afternoon. An agora in which to do nothing and being able to do everything in turn, sufficiently delimited so it does not return to become an anarchy focus, but open enough to allow all sorts of spontaneous uses.

A simple system, composed of a triangles metallic structure systematically organized, which constructs an artificial topography capable of conforming to the irregular terrain slope, next to a light and transparent cover that allows to be colonized by climbing plants, to form a shaded area.

Toda la intervención se basa en un detalle práctico que facilita la realización del proyecto empleando la fuerza de trabajo y las tecnologías que se manejan en el barrio. Este recurso se convierte en una tipología fácilmente replicable a futuro por la comunidad, sin necesidad de solicitar la asesoría de figuras externas. Un sistema y una metodología de trabajo que empodera a los propios habitantes como principales propulsores de la transformación de su entorno.

All the intervention is based on a practical detail facilitating the project realization, using the work force and the technologies handled in the favela. This resource becomes a easily replicated typology by the community in future, without having to request the advice of external figures. A work system and a methodology wich empowers the inhabitants themselves as main drivers on their own environment transformation.

El 70 es uno de los barrios con mayor fuerza de autodeterminación en Caracas. Se caracteriza por ser una comunidad perfectamente establecida que cuenta con una solida organización colectiva.

El 70 is one of the most self-determining neighborhoods in Caracas. It is characterized by being a perfectly established community that has a solid collective organization.

The project consists of the transformation of a lot under the protection of the community, where an unfinished structure preexists. The proposal is based on reforming this space for its consolidation as a community building.

El proyecto consiste en la transformación de un lote bajo resguardo de la comunidad donde preexiste una estructura sin acabar. La propuesta se basa en reformar este espacio para su consolidación como edificio comunitario.

A work force composed of leaders and youth of the neighborhood, is united to make decisions and execute tasks of work in a systematic and precise way.

Una fuerza de trabajo integrada por líderes y jóvenes del barrio, se cohesiona para tomar decisiones y ejecutar tareas de obra de manera sistemática y precisa.

The construction was based on the liberation of components of the structural system, under the reuse strategy, seeking to take advantage of materials available in the building itself. Metallic components are coupled looking for verticality. The tower is a magnificent viewing point that allows visual control of the whole neighborhood extended to the Valley of Caracas. A square on the street level is the meeting place, and a multipurpose workshop next to communal office in the basement for all kinds of community meetings, dance workshops, board games, nursery and other spontaneous uses.

La construcción se basa en liberar componentes del sistema estructural aporticado, bajo la estrategia de reutilización, buscando aprovechar materiales disponibles en la propia edificación. Componentes metálicos se acoplan buscando verticalidad. La torre es un punto de avistamiento magnífico, que permite tener control visual de todo el barrio ampliado hacia el Valle de Caracas. Una plaza en nivel calle es el sitio de encuentro y taller de usos múltiples junto a la oficina comunal en sótano para todo tipo de reuniones comunitarias, talleres de baile, juegos de mesa, guardería y otros usos espontáneos.

The building is in dialogue with a series of already consolidated undertakings: the favela radio, a music recording studio, an amphitheater and La Nube, an artistic intervention developed together with the viewpoint, which serves as an installation for cultural activities.

El edificio dialoga con una serie de emprendimientos ya consolidados: La radio favela, un estudio de grabación musical, un anfiteatro y con La Nube, una intervención artística desarrollada junto con el mirador, que sirve de instalación para actividades culturales.

Los Mangos de la Florida III se reconoce como barrio desde enero 2005. Es producto de un proceso de ocupación y una sólida organización barrial liderada principalmente por mujeres luchadoras sociales que conforman el Consejo Comunal. Nueve años después de su fundación se enorgullecen de contar con 180 viviendas, de las cuales 150 son autoconstruidas, convirtiéndose en un referente de prácticas organizativas en la zona.

La intervención persigue una importante carga simbólica haciendo uso de un lote baldío disponible en la entrada al barrio, para su transformación en espacio de intercambio.

“Los Mangos de Florida III” has been recognized as a suburb since January 2005. It is the result of a process of occupation and a strong neighborhood organization led mainly by women social fighters that make up the Community Council. Nine years after its foundation, they pride themselves on having 180 homes, of which 150 are self-built, becoming a benchmark of organizational practices in the area.

The intervention pursues an important symbolic load making use of an empty lot available at the entrance to the neighborhood, for its transformation into a communal space.

El proyecto involucra al conjunto de vecinos comprometidos, participando en la construcción de las infraestructuras en medio de un proceso pedagógico donde existe transferencia de saberes.

The project involves the set of committed neighbors, participating in the construction of infrastructures in a pedagogical process where there is knowledge transfer.

El reto consiste en coordinar las fortalezas de los entes gubernamentales que respaldan el proyecto. La proveeduría estatal de materiales suministra acero estructural a la herrería de propiedad social existente en el barrio, que a su vez es operada por una brigada local. Lo lógico es construir el proyecto mayoritariamente en acero, apoyados en esta línea de producción en serie.

The challenge is to coordinate the strengths of the government entities that support the project. The state supply structural steel to the existing metal shop on the neighborhood, which is operated by local workers. The logical thing is to build the project mainly in steel, supported by this production line.

Se fabrica una estructura de cubierta formada por 30 componentes similares, siendo posteriormente trasladados y adaptados en sitio.

La instalación ocupa un área de 200m2, apropiada para asambleas políticas, presentaciones culturales, talleres educativos y un sin fin actividades. La superficie del boulevard se construye con hormigón vaciado, elevando la calzada al nivel de la acera para limitar el paso de vehículos y ganar espacio común que favorece a los vecinos. Luminarias, mobiliarios, juegos infantiles y otros componentes que no se resuelven con materiales del inventario formal, son fabricados con material reciclado de la zona.

A deck structure is fabricated out of 30 similar components, being subsequently transferred and adapted in place. The installation covers an area of 200m2, suitable for political assemblies, cultural presentations, educational workshops and endless activities. The surface of the boulevard is built with concrete, raising the road to the level of the sidewalk to limit the passage of vehicles and gain common space that favors the neighbors. Luminaires, furniture, playgrounds and other components that are not solved with materials from the formal inventory, are manufactured with recycled material from the area.

El bulevar terminado es un punto seguro que da acceso al barrio, siendo la arquitectura solo la parte visible. El proyecto es un ejercicio de sumar fuerzas entre el barrio, entes de gobierno y arquitectos intermediarios que buscan construir procesos más que edificios.

The finished boulevard is a safe point that gives access to the neighborhood, the architecture being only the visible part. The project is an exercise in joining forces between the neighborhood, government entities and architects looking to build processes rather than buildings.

El proyecto se enclava en un pequeño valle habitado forzosamente por familias de condiciones precarias. Se basa en re-significar un espacio que ha sufrido diversas transformaciones, siendo un antiguo autocine y luego cancha deportiva, hasta su pauperización como vertedero de basura municipal y posterior asentamiento informal.

The project is located in a small valley necessarily inhabited by families of precarious conditions. It is based on re-signifying a space that has undergone various transformations, being an old drive-in cinema and then sports court, until its impoverishment as municipal garbage dump and later an informal settlement.

Two types of procedures are carried out during construction: a thorough sanitation of the land allows clearing large amounts of accumulated contempt, revealing natural surfaces and hidden facilities, and a reconstruction process that rebuilds an architecture centered on restoring the landscape condition, on the foundations of preexistence.

Dos tipos de procedimientos se ejecutan durante la construcción: un saneamiento exhaustivo del terreno permite despejar grandes cantidades de desprecios acumulados, develando superficies naturales e instalaciones ocultas, y un proceso de reconstrucción que vuelve a edificar una arquitectura centrada en restituir la condición de paisaje, sobre los cimientos de las preexistencias.

La superficie de la cancha y parte del estacionamiento aparecen de nuevo, siendo solidas plataformas de emplazamiento para la intervención. El proyecto es liderado por el consejo comunal, incluyendo a toda la comunidad en su materialización. A partir de ese momento cambia la dinámica del barrio, y el proyecto se torna en especial foco de atención, apostando por una dedicación exclusiva de cada uno de los agentes implicados.

The surface of the court and part of the parking lot appear again, being solid platforms of placement for the intervention. The project is led by the community council, including the entire community in its materialization. From that moment the dynamics of the popular neighborhood change, and the project becomes a special focus of attention, betting for an exclusive dedication of each of the agents involved.

El conjunto despliega cancha multiusos, plataforma de presentaciones culturales al aire libre, cine, área de juegos infantiles, jardines productivos y salón de reuniones. Con el proyecto se constituye una empresa socio-productiva que aprovecha escombros, piedras, caña brava, tabiques de arcilla y otros materiales extraídos de la zona, dándole un sentido ético a la construcción.

The set features a multipurpose court, an outdoor cultural platform, cinema, children's play area, productive gardens and meeting room.

With the project, a productive company is created that takes advantage of debris, stones, reed, clay partitions and other materials extracted from the area, giving an ethical sense to the construction.

El proyecto inicia a partir de un histórico emprendimiento social impulsado por la comunidad. Durante el año 2013 surge un plan de desarrollo integral del hábitat, donde el comité vecinal logra activar el proyecto de viviendas, habiendo participado del consejo de planificación de políticas públicas que reúne a decenas de comunidades del entorno donde se someten a discusión estas iniciativas. El proyecto inicia con la construcción de un conjunto unidades unifamiliares dirigidas a familias emergentes. Pillo Peraza es un reconocido personaje, luchador social y cultor comunitario que habita una infraestructura precaria en típica situación de improvisación barrial, siendo seleccionado por la comunidad.

The project starts from a historical social entrepreneurship driven by the community. During the year of 2013 a comprehensive habitat development plan emerged, where the neighborhood committee managed to activate the housing project, having participated in the public policy planning council that brings together dozens of surrounding communities where these initiatives are discussed. The project begins with the construction of a set of single-family units aimed at emerging families. Pillo Peraza is a renowned character, social fighter and community farmer who live in a precarious infrastructure typical of a slum improvisation situation, being selected by the community.

This project is a case of applied research in social housing that focuses on obtaining a set of design responses capable of rethinking spaces and technical solutions used in the development of family unit models, starting off from the parameters inventory established by the current program, administrative procedures, time, construction systems, materials and assigned budgets.

Este proyecto es un caso de investigación aplicada en vivienda social que se enfoca en obtener un conjunto de repuestas de diseño capaces de replantear espacios y soluciones técnicas utilizadas en el desarrollo de modelos de unidades familiares, partiendo del inventario de los parámetros establecidos por el programa vigente, procedimientos administrativos, tiempos, sistemas constructivos, materiales y presupuestos asignados.

Propone cuestionar el modelo de masificación que no prevé diferencias, consiguiendo una forma no convencional de responder a este problema, demostrando una opción alternativa y factible a los preceptos de la modernidad, sin demandar de condiciones distintas a las ya provistas. Utilizar exactamente los mismos instrumentos, pudiendo adaptar y customizar partes y componentes, y sistematizar un conjunto de estrategias compatibles para otros casos similares.

It proposes to question the massification model that doesn’t foresee differences, obtaining an unconventional way of responding to this problem, demonstrating an alternative and feasible option to the precepts of modernity, without demanding conditions other than those already provided. Using exactly the same instruments, being able to adapt and customize parts and components, and systematizing a set of compatible strategies for other similar cases.

La estructura metálica aporticada es modificada dentro de sus posibilidades, disponiendo de vigas y correas para lograr una cubierta a tres aguas dirigidas hacia el patio. Mampostería en bloques de concreto independientes de las columnas, evitando fracturas en el friso como consecuencia del movimiento que se produce en la estructura por la capacidad elástica de sus componentes. Todo el resto es igual: techo en madera de pino machihembrada, ventanas de dos paños, puertas de chapas entamboradas, pisos de cerámica, etc. Finalmente Pillo añade valor de uso a la vivienda en la medida que ocupa y adecua sus espacios con muebles, recuerdos, objetos y toda clase de artefactos.

The metallic frame structure is modified according to its possibilities, having main and secondary beams to achieve a deck with three waters directed towards the courtyard. The masonry with concrete blocks nonattached to the columns, avoiding fractures in the frieze as a result of the movement that occurs in the structure by the elastic capacity of its components. All the rest is the same: roof in plywood pine, windows of two cloths, sliding doors of plates, ceramic floors, etc. Finally Pillo adds value to the house in the measure that occupies and adapts its spaces with furniture, souvenirs, objects and all kinds of artefacts.

El sitio de comprobación es un lote medianero que descarta la organización estándar, dado el reducido espacio, limitado por la presencia de otras edificaciones vecinas previamente consolidadas. Esta parcela tiene la particularidad de colindar con una casa comunitaria de donde proviene un árbol que traspasa el perímetro, atravesando el muro de lindero hasta el lado de la vivienda.

La solución consiste en replantear la organización programática de la vivienda en función de las condiciones físicas del lugar, siendo capaz de ajustarse a las características particulares del emplazamiento, respondiendo a las necesidades del núcleo familiar, y propiciando un modelo flexible, abierto de sufrir eventuales modificaciones sin perder su condición original. El prototipo es una vivienda sencilla con espacios organizados alrededor de un medio-patio interno bajo el árbol existente.

La intervención genera un inventario de opciones posibles para la modificación de viviendas estandarizadas, bajo la necesidad de reordenar los ambientes y las formas constructivas con capacidad de adaptarse a lugares que no admiten la configuración preestablecida. El proyecto consigue solventar la demanda particular de la misma manera que avala una referencia de fácil reinterpretación y reproducción para la comunidad.

The demonstration site is an enclosed lot that discards the standard organization, given the space wich is limited by the presence of other previously consolidated neighboring buildings. This plot has the particularity of of sharing borders with a community house from where a tree comes from, crosses the perimeter, breaking the dividing wall to the side of the house.

The solution is to rethink the programmatic organization of the house according to the physical conditions of the place, being an example able to adjust to the particular characteristics of the site, responding to the needs of the family nucleus, and providing a flexible model open to suffer eventual modifications without losing its original condition.

The prototype is a simple dwelling with several spaces organized around a half-inner courtyard under the existing tree. Kitchen, 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a small service area.

The intervention generates an inventory of possible options for the modification of standard houses, under the need to rearrange the spaces and the constructive forms which are able to adapt to places that do not support the preset configuration. The project manages to solve the particular demand in the same way that guarantees a reference of easy reinterpretation and reproduction for the community.

PROTOTIPO DE VIVIENDA PERIFÉRICA UNIDAD FAMILIAR EN RED

Este proyecto forma parte del inventario de comprobaciones resultantes del programa Viviendas Barriales Productivas.

Propone una mirada ajustada al desarrollo de nuevos esquemas de viviendas en contextos rurales, demostrando la capacidad de explorar modelos que se distancian de los prefigurados en la ciudad.

El caso de estudio está ubicado en la cota más elevada del asentamiento rural, compartiendo límites con la formación montañosa y una de las quebradas naturales que desprende hacia el barrio. La parcela presenta una fuerte topografía accidentada en forma de pendiente con tres pequeñas terrazas medianamente conformadas, y se caracteriza por percibir un clima templado en las noches y disponer de suelos fértiles.

El proyecto se maneja bajo la premisa de prototipar basados en la producción de una tecnología transferible, capaz de preservar un aspecto material similar al del conjunto de la comunidad y rescatar diversas inteligencias constructivas locales, conforme a una tecnología de la necesidad.

La construcción combina materiales del inventario estatal con recursos locales: Fundaciones y losa de concreto armado, estructura de perfiles metálicos, techos y revestimientos con termo-paneles livianos, cerramientos de bloque de arcilla y bloques de barro enriquecidos con cemento, entre otros.

Se articula el diseño de dos naves partiendo de una lógica modular que se adapta a los diferentes niveles. La primera nave se apoya de manera escalonada siguiendo la morfología natural del terreno para evitar movimientos de tierra. Reúne cocina y sala en el primer estrato más próximo al acceso, sanitarios en el intermedio y recamaras al fondo. La segunda nave, consigue ampliar el espacio común de la casa, conformando un patio bajo techo que se abre al terreno. En la elevación se encuentra la habitación principal.

El resto de la parcela se reserva para la siembra de organopónicos, principal motivación de Pedro y Anarelbis. Un dispositivo de captación de agua propuesto para gestionar la humedad del ambiente que se condensa entre la vegetación especialmente durante la época de sequía, pretende irrigar el futuro cultivo, siendo la actividad productiva familiar que más expectativas trae a la comunidad.

PROTOTYPE OF PERIPHERAL HOUSING FAMILY NETWORK UNIT

This project is part of the checks inventory resulting from the Productive Barrial Housing program. It proposes a close look at the development of new housing schemes in rural contexts, demonstrating the ability to explore models that are distant from those prefigured in the city.

The case of study is located in the highest elevation of the rural settlement, sharing limits with the mountainous formation and one of the natural ravines that it leaves towards the neighborhood. The plot presents a strong sloping topography with three small moderately shaped terraces, characterized by a mild weather at night and fertile soil.

The project is managed under the premise of prototyping, based on the production of a transferable technology, capable of preserving a material aspect similar of those in the community and rescuing various local constructive intelligences, according to a technology of necessity.

Construction combines materials from the state inventory with local resources: foundations and reinforced concrete slabs, structure of metal profiles, ceilings and coatings with lightweight thermal panels, clay block enclosures and mud blocks enriched with cement, among others.

It articulates the design of two ships starting from a modular logic that adapts to the different levels. The first shed is supported following the natural morphology of the terrain to avoid earth movements. It includes kitchen and living room in the first stratum closest to the access, sanitary in the middle and bedrooms in the background. The second shed, is able to expand the common space of the house, forming a indoor patio that opens to the land. In the elevation you will find the main room.

The rest of the plot is reserved for an organoponics planting, the main motivation of Pedro and Anarelbis. A water catchment device proposed to manage the humidity of the environment that condenses among the vegetation especially during the dry season, aims to irrigate the future crop, being the productive activity for the family that brings more expectations to the community.

Este proyecto es resultado del proceso de activación cultural desarrollado en el marco del programa Sistema de Equipamientos Comunales, ocupando un área de 80 metros cuadrados sobre uno de espacios espontáneamente auto-activados del barrio.

La propuesta surge a partir del reconocimiento de la vereda como una plaza apropiada por niños y niñas, dada la evidente ausencia de parques y espacios de recreación infantil.

The proposal arises from the recognition of the sidewalk as an appropriate place for children, given the obvious absence of parks and playgrounds.

A través de la utilización del color se formalizan cinco juegos tradicionales en un mismo espacio reducido: Pelotica de goma, Avión, Trompo, Taimas y Futbolito.

Este pequeño punto de encuentro pasa a formar parte del patrimonio simbólico reciente, recobrando la identidad de la vereda y su importancia como eje que atraviesa el barrio desplegando diferentes formas de apropiación.

This small meeting point becomes part of the recent symbolic heritage, recovering the identity of the sidewalk and its importance as axis that crosses the neighborhood unfolding different forms of appropriation.

La comunidad tiene la expectativa de consolidar el primer espacio de lo que aspira sea un sistema de espacios y dispositivos públicos integrados y abiertos a la ciudad, para el encuentro cotidiano de los habitantes de los nuevos equipamientos de la avenida Bolívar de Caracas. Un conjunto de infraestructuras estatales de vivienda multifamiliar mixta, ocupadas desde agosto del 2014 por más de 450 familias venezolanas provenientes de barriadas colapsadas y refugios que atendieron las emergencias sociales producidas por las vaguadas y otros fenómenos naturales.

La infraestructura a intervenir está conformada por dos naves a doble altura de 50 m2 cada una, que se comunican entre sí y que tienen la posibilidad de relacionarse visual y físicamente hacia dos frentes de la planta baja del edificio, un solar virgen contiguo a la avenida Bolívar y una acera previa a la calle de servicios.

Dos necesidades fundamentales sobre las que se articula el proyecto. La construcción de un espacio asambleario para proyecciones audiovisuales, presentaciones de teatro, reuniones comunitarias y diversas actividades que sustituya al pórtico de acceso al edificio y un área de juegos para niños como alternativa al parque infantil convencional.

The community expects to consolidate the first space of what it aspires to be a system of spaces and integrated public devices open to the city, for the daily encounter of the inhabitants of the new facilities of the Bolivar Avenue in Caracas. A set of mixed multifamily State housing infrastructures, occupied since August 2014 by more than 450 Venezuelan families who come from collapsed neighborhoods and shelters that attended social emergencies caused by troughs and other natural phenomena.

The intervened infrastructure is made up of two double-height ships of 50 m2 each, which communicate with each other and have the possibility of being visually and physically related to two fronts on the ground floor of the building, a virgin plot adjoining the Bolivar Avenue and a previous sidewalk before the services street.

Two fundamental needs on which the project is articulated. The construction of an assembly space for audiovisual projections, theater presentations, community meetings and various activities that will replace the building's access porch and a play area for children as an alternative to the conventional playground.

Se diseña un plan de trabajo para lograr la intervención en cuatro semanas, las mujeres de la comunidad coordinan todo. En obra, dirigen a las brigadas, revisan y ajustan la planificación general, el cronograma de trabajo y el inventario. Fuera de obra discuten las políticas de gestión social para administrar el espacio.

La brigada de construcción está integrada por seis jóvenes, que desarrollan directamente en la obra: nociones de escala, proporción, forma, función y aspectos relacionados al espacio, se adiestran en los oficios de herrería, carpintería y albañilería a través de talleres, acotamiento 1:1, replanteo y seguridad laboral.

A work plan is designed to achieve the intervention in four weeks, the women in the community will coordinate the whole plan.In work they are in charge of directing and accompanying the brigades, to review and to adjust the general planning, the schedule of work and the inventory. Outside the work they discuss the social management policies to manage the space once the intervention is finished.

The construction brigade is composed of six young people, who develop directly in the work: notions of scale, proportion, form, function and aspects related to space and are trained in carpentry, blacksmithing and masonry through workshops, 1: 1 dimensioning, reformulate and job security.

El acuerdo, resolver un tema por cada nave, con la condición de no modificar la infraestructura, evitando procesos en húmedo que requieren tiempo y generan desperdicios.

La unidad está conformada por una nave de dos cuerpos articulados (Sala de Musicalización y Cuarto de Controles).

Funciona como espacio versátil y flexible de ensayo y grabación con capacidad de múltiples instrumentos.

The unit is made up of a shed with two articulated bodies (Musicalization Hall and Control Room). It functions as a versatile and flexible space for rehearsal and recording with multi-instrument capacity.

La propuesta se encuentra al interior de una estructura patrimonial. Se prevé no afectar la edificación, respetando muros y otras preexistencias. Un sistema de bastidores metálicos redefinen el espacio interior, sirviendo de soporte para los nuevos límites establecidos. El mismo sistema admite los paneles de revestimiento final, instalaciones eléctricas y otros artefactos expuestos.

The proposal is within a patrimonial structure. It is expected not to affect the building, respecting the walls and other pre-existences. A system of metal frames redefines the interior space, serving as support for the new established limits. The same system supports the final coating panels, electrical installations and other exposed artifacts.

Los trabajos persiguen una estética sin ornamentos ni decoraciones, resaltando materiales visibles en sus propiedades naturales y adaptándose de forma particular a las características del espacio y los componentes disponibles.

El diseño acústico propone una serie de paneles oblicuos, capaces de reducir la propagación de sonidos reverberantes y vibraciones, filtrando ruidos y disonancias indeseadas.

El espacio ofrece programas de formación y servicios de producción y edición de contenidos audiovisuales, gestionados por diversos productores que integran el colectivo.

The works pursue an aesthetic without ornaments or decorations, enhancing the materials in their natural properties and adapting in a particular way to the characteristics of the space and the available components.

The acoustic design proposes a system of oblique panels, capable of reducing the propagation of reverberant sounds and vibrations, filtering out unwanted noises and dissonances.

The space offers training programs and services of audiovisual production and editing, managed by different producers that are part of the collective.

Ésta nueva superficie es una extensión de la Plaza Vecinal. Forma parte de la intervención desarrollada previamente en el barrio, incorporando una actividad altamente practicada por jóvenes locales, como lo es el baloncesto.

This new surface is an extension of the Neighborhood Square. It is part of the intervention previously developed in the neighborhood, incorporating an activity highly practiced by local youth, such as basketball.

Su construcción se basa en reproducir el sistema de bastidores triangulares ya testados por los herreros como una tipología que admite configurar estructuras complejas a partir de subestructuras modulares fácilmente replicables. La cancha básicamente está conformada por un suelo delimitado y una canasta de baloncesto.

17 piezas perfectamente replanteadas, ensambladas e instaladas con el resto de sus elementos a partir de una sencilla línea de producción, dan forma al componente metálico que sirve de back stop y soporte para el tablero de juego.

Its construction is based on reproducing the system of triangular frames already tested by the blacksmiths as a typology that allows to configure complex structures from modular substructures easily replicable. The court basically consists of a delimited floor and a basket of basketbal, 17 pieces perfectly refined, assembled and installed with the rest of its elements from a simple production line, form the metallic component that serves as back stop and support for the game board.

Las 3 Marías, se integra junto a otros clubes sociales en el torneo de canchas de barrio, visitándose habitualmente como un mecanismo para establecer contacto entre comunidades, con el fin de compartir deportivamente, pero también extrapolar determinadas experiencias organizativas.

Circuito de producción agrícola de baja escala, articulando cocina con huerto orgánico y canteros de cultivo conectados a un pequeño dispositivo de recolección de agua de lluvia que facilita la irrigación de especies vegetales, aromáticas y hierbas medicinales, utilizadas para la preparación de las recetas que incluye el menú del café.

El experimento pretende instalar un sistema de manejo autosuficiente que permita a los productores de la unidad, limitar la dependencia de productos de consumo industrializados, persiguiendo la sustentabilidad en rubros fácilmente cultivables en la ciudad.

Todos los rubros que se generan provienen de un origen orgánico, siendo tratados con fertilizantes y biocontroladores naturales. Las plántulas adultas se trasladan a las bandejas ubicadas en la terraza del café, donde se encuentra el dispositivo de irrigación conectado a la canal de recolección de aguas de lluvias, aprovechando recipientes plásticos y piezas de instalaciones sanitarias convencionales.

Low-scale agricultural production circuit, joins the kitchen with the organic orchards and cultivated recipients which are connected to a small rainwater collection device that facilitates the irrigation of vegetable, aromatic and medicinal herbs used for the preparation of the recipes that are included in the restaurant menu.

The experiment aims to install a self-sufficient management system that allows the producers of the unit to reduce the dependence of industrialized consumer products, pursuing sustainability in easily cultivable areas of the city.

All the items that are generated comes from an organic origin, being treated with fertilizers and natural bio-controllers. Adult seedlings are transported to the trays located on the coffee terrace, where the irrigation device is connected to the rainwater harvesting channel, taking advantage of plastic containers and pieces of conventional sanitary facilities.

El Parque Nacional Waraira Repano forma parte de la cadena montañosa precordillerana que separa Caracas de la costa del Mar Caribe, siendo el principal ecosistema natural y pulmón vegetal de la ciudad.

Sectores habitados de esta zona protegida, especialmente barrios populares, deben convertirse en espacios de preservación de la naturaleza del Parque, siendo capaces de retornar los recursos extraídos, a partir de una relación de aprovechamiento sostenible con los elementos que proporciona el terreno.

El proyecto intenta desarrollar una experiencia productiva apoyada en la consolidación de un patio común, ubicado hacia la parte más rural de la comunidad. El patio cuenta con un huerto de plantas de raíces profundas, gestionado por un grupo de familias vecinas con conocimiento de agricultura urbana. A su vez, el huerto aprovecha un muro de estabilización construido a partir de la técnica de permacultura que utiliza sacos de arena cernida proveniente del mismo sitio. La idea es utilizar el espacio como un taller-escuela de formación en el manejo de ecosistemas al interior del barrio, incluyendo la protección del Parque Nacional.

The Waraira Repano National Park is part of the pre-mountainous chain that separates Caracas from the coast of the Caribbean Sea, being the main natural ecosystem and vegetal lung of the city.

The inhabited sectors of this protected area, especially popular neighborhoods, must become spaces for the preservation of the Park nature, being able to return the extracted resources, based on a sustainable utilization relationship with the elements provided by the land.

The project aims to develop a productive experience supported by the consolidation of a common courtyard, located towards the most rural part of the community. The courtyard has an orchard of deep-rooted plants, managed by a group of neighboring families with knowledge of urban agriculture. At the same time, the garden takes advantage of a stabilization wall built from the permaculture technique using sacks of sifted sand coming from the same site. The idea is to use the space as a workshop-school of training in the management of ecosystems within the neighborhood, including the protection of the National park.
