Important Dates 21 – 25 September 2020 • Assessment Week 25 September 2020 • BOT Student Rep Elections 28 September to 9 October 2020 • Term Break

It is difficult to attempt to explain the range of challenges that we have all had to confront in 2020. I know that the Covid-19 epidemic has created many stresses and strains within our community which will remain with us for a significant time period. Your patience and support for Aorere College, throughout this year, has been very much appreciated by our staff. I want to commend all of our staff for remaining committed to providing the optimum learning environment for the students, in unprecedented circumstances. As was the case following the original closure of schools earlier in the year, the students were pleased to return to school and attendance rates steadily improved. Presently this rate is averaging close to 80% which is positive. However, I need to stress that all students now are required to attend school and regular attendance is essential in order for academic success to occur. Attached (page 2) is the ‘Academic Programme’, which will occur during the term break from Monday, 28 September to Friday, 9 October 2020. It is important that you encourage students to attend these sessions as appropriate. The reductions in assessment requirements for the NCEA qualifications recently granted to Auckland students have been fair and very supportive, reflecting the unusual circumstances.

Students need to acknowledge this and by attending school regularly they will be able to achieve academic success in 2020. The timetable in the Senior School will continue to operate for students throughout November but students will be given the necessary release time, to prepare for any external NCEA examinations. Prizegiving for the Senior School has been changed from early November to early December due to the delayed start of these examinations. Casualties of the Alert Level 2.5 have unfortunately included the School Ball and Winter Sports. Signs are positive at this stage for a settled Term 4 and Summer Sports. Thank you for your continued support in these challenging times and if you have any questions at all about Term 4 process, please let me know.
