wellness WELCOME TO

The last few years have shown us that people value their time, health and well-being differently than ever before. Data from surveys conducted since 2021 indicate at least 50% of people now consider wellness their top priority, and are planning to spend more time invest more resources year over year - reinforcing that the pursuit of wellness is a journey which doesn’t stop when we head to work or step into an event It makes sense, then, that today’s event guests are more discerning when choosing to travel, and to and which events they attend Guests expect interactive, sustainable, and innovative experiences, fulfilling human connection, schedules considerate of wellbeing and lifestyle, and inclusive, accessible spaces
As mental health and self-care take to the forefront of conversations, we start to see the levels of high-stress, anxiety, poor physical health and burnout so many are facing.
In order to create the perfect experience for clients, event professionals are sacrificing their own health and wellness for the sake of the show or career. Nearly half of all event professionals say they have felt ‘burnt out’ in their position, with 70% feeling their role causes consistent high stress levels Together with the demand for more events, this pattern is unsustainable.
However, this wave of change has brought about a collective desire to balance priorities with intent, manage our wellness and connect more deeply with one another more than ever before
This is an exciting time to reevaluate the possibilities of organizing events with wellness as a priority Opportunities to improve the guest and staff experience abound, and the data shows a positive response and return on experiencebefore, during and after the event.
Planning with wellness requires an understanding of the dimensions of wellness and how to apply them to each aspect of your program. This guide was
designed to give you an introduction to the components of wellness and a few ideas and resources to get started
We hope you discover something valuable on your journey with us today and learn how to take action by incorporating wellness into your daily life, work and events. Together, we can make an impact that will lead into a healthier, happier future.

“Forward-facing professionals are looking beyond a commoditized approach to wellness and gravitating to an integrative approach, where wellness and mental health are baked into every aspect of a gathering”
Allow space and time to mimic patterns of daily life to lower stress and encourage natural socialization. Consider exercise classes, healthy activities, longer lunch times, work cafe, designated mindfulness or unplugged zones, focus booths, local learning opportunities or an after-hours snack bar.
Thoughtfully affect all five senses to add interest, pique curiosity and set a mood. Lighting to match circadian rhythms, unique F&B choices and experiences, calming aromatherapy, textiles in seating and lounge areas, intentional sound choices, and color palettes used in strategic locations and times.
Serotonin, Oxytocin, Dopamine, and Endorphins are brain chemicals that drive behavior and are affected by our environment, mood and activities. Give a boost of confidence, moments of connection, energizing problem-solving or feelgood memories by crafting programs with experiences that target each transmitter!
Provide accessible space and activities open to all. Activities and fitness programs should be available for all levels and abilities, and tailored to your group. Offering prayer and quiet sensory rooms, remote audio options, health considerations, varied seating choices, an appealing culinary variety, nonalcoholic cocktails, etc. will help guests feel they can be themselves when participating.
Wellness doesn’t stop at one class. From pre-arrival to the flight home, wellness touches each activity of your program. By planning with wellness as the priority, you ’ re designing a human-centered event that better meets objectives while driving engagement and enjoyment.

7:15 8:00 a.m. Welcome Breakfast
Continental pastries and traditional food, with few plant-based options Typically high-fat and high-carb, leading to blood sugar and energy crashes
8:15 9:15 a m
General Session
Long housekeeping talks prior to meaningful information drains energy levels and connection opportunities
9:30 10:45 a.m. A Session
The average attention span for a session is under 30 minutes, less if seated in dimly lit areas with no audience engagement
11:00 a m 12:15 p m B Session
This scheduling forces a choice between a rushed or skipped lunch and session attendance Consequences might include poor focus, lack of opportunity to learn and network, dehydration and fatigue
11:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. Luncheon
May not include a variety for dietary needs and health-conscious guests Seating may not be conducive to the needs of guest - whether for catching up on work or networking, and time may be insufficient to include both a break and a meal
12:30 1:45 p m C Session
After-lunch sessions should be energizing and engaging They don’t often include physical movement or consider lighting and mood, leading many to nod off
2:00 3:15 p.m.
Ensure variety in sessions and environments Be sure to include adequate time for brain breaks, movement and interaction
3:30 4:45 p m E Session
Little time is left for guests to attend to other needs, be it work, family calls or self-care - this leads to burnout and poor engagement Consider combining opportunities with creative choices and spaces designated for wellness
5:00 6:00 p.m. Annual
Rather than stirring excitement and collaboration, important meetings at end of day often fall short of their goals due to timing Consider integrating into an activity or scheduling at a higher energy time of day
6:30 8:00 p m Dinner
Meals often include only one option for plant-based or allergen menus Cut cost by offering a variety dishes that include a wide range of tastes and provide dietary information in advance
7:30 9:00 p.m. Celebration
Alcohol tends to take center stage, isolating some guests and leaving others at less than 100% the following day Many activities are not sensory-friendly or suitable for a wide range of needs and abilities

Spaces designed using elements of nature increase positive emotion, lower stress levels, and can even improve immune health. Placing trees, plants, flowers and water features indoors can elicit these responses.
Colors can instantly set a mood, convey an emotion, invoked a physiological reaction, or inspire people to take action. Likewise, lighting from rooms, the outdoors and screens affect brain chemistry, mood, and even sleep cycle. Research color and lighting charts to help you set the tone and infuse energy, relaxation or focus in your spaces
Known as chemical messengers, neurotransmitters regulate our body and behavior. Dopamine - Essential for alertness, memory and learning. sense excitement and reward. Increased through physical activity and positive reinforcement. Endorphins - Inhibit pain signals and create feelings of pleasure. Laughter, exercise and appetizing food release endorphins. Serotonin - Regulates mood, behavior, sleep and memory Exposure to nature, sunlight, and healthy foods increase serotonin naturally. Oxytocin - Increases feelings of closeness, trust and relaxation to foster connections. Increased through exercise, touch, and positive social interactions.
Other transmitters are used for restful sleep, mitigating stress hormones, and more.
In just 1-2 hours, unhealthy meals create fatigue, ‘brain fog‘, irritability and digestive changes. In 2-3 days, inflammation occurs in the gut and brain Pair healthy fats, proteins and carbs for more sustained energy, a healthier mind and body
High stress levels and lack of sleep cause inflammatory hormones like cortisol to be released resulting in lower productivity, irritability, anxiety, loss of focus, behavior changes, increased pain, and poor coordination. Over time, heart health, physical condition and cognitive function are negatively affected, and the risk of disease greatly increased.
In addition to events, wellness experiences are a great match for other market areas looking to demonstrate a commitment to well-being
