GIRISH SINGH ... is amongst a new breed of artists and an engineer based out of Mumbai. He has been working with large shipping companies and industrial groups for over 35 years. With a technical and hands on approach, he is consulted for his precise solutions and efficient turn around time.

Over the years, he has been creatively inclined to use his knowledge to make things - from fixing up old vintage cars to creating a new lighting fixture. Girish is now working with metal and wood to create stand alone master pieces. His unique background and vision gives him the expertise that can be applied to create large sculptures, object d’art, installations and furniture - customised to any space.

Girish collaborates with architects, designers and art enthusiasts to craft objects basis a broad vision with an approach that is both creative and technically sound.

Twisted Metal - Statement Chandelier Dimensions: 19’ x 7’ Materials: Stainless steel, copper, aluminium

Dream projects are made of these. We were given an open brief to design a statement piece of art that works as a light for the ceiling of a residential building, Victoria Heights by Lokhandwala Builders.

With a curiosity to work with manually bending metal to look like graceful ribbons - Girish created this piece of that isWORKS inset into the ceiling of the lobby.

Lighting Design & Metal Work Dimensions: Miscellaneous Materials: Canadian oak, specially made cast iron frames, round portholes, aluminium, teak wood, acrylic, copper, steel

We created bespoke solutions for a restaurant, The Good Wife, in BKC, Mumbai.

A variety of chandeliers were used to adorn and light up the space. Some of the chandeliers were created with Pumpkin lamp fittings. The round industrial chandeliers used Edison bulbs, canvas and were air-brush painted. A metal wall was designed to appear as a vintage drawer cabinet which was fashioned with brass pockets for tagging each drawer.WORKS 14 // ENGINEERING

Office Console with Mirror Set Dimensions Mirror: 48” x 22” Console: 48” x 16” x 39” Materials: Automotive scrap

A console unit with a mirror, made using automotive scrap was installed at the headquarters of a large scale furniture manufacturer’s office in Bengaluru.

Fire Sculpture Dimensions: 5’ diameter Materials: Aluminium, copper, flame cut steel plate 20mm thick

Designed and built for a penthouse residence at Pali Hill, this piece of work acts as a ‘partition’ to a very long balcony, without visually cutting off the appeal of the extended space.

Scrap Metal Bench Duo Dimensions: 66” x 18” Materials: Automotive scrap, transmission chains

A set of two benches were meticulously created using scrap automobile parts and transmission chains. Each component was argon welded, internally, keeping the visible areas free from any welds, thus creating an illusion that all the components are held together by a magnetic force.

Created for a furniture studio based in Mumbai, whose vision is to push the boundaries of the meaning of furniture, this piece is now installed in their clients’ office.

Customised Wall Unit Dimensions: 10’ x 8’ Materials: Stainless steel, Canadian oak, transmission chains

Stainless steel forged pipe fittings, Canadian oak and transmission chains were used to create a shelving unit. The unit also includes a working Temperature Gauge and a Valve, which was machined and modified, to accommodate a rotary switch to operate an industrial styled lamp.

Weathered Wall Dimensions: 10’ x 12’ Materials: Corten Steel

Installed in a South Bombay residence, this challenging piece of work took weeks of trials and after various permutations and combinations the rusting technique was perfected. The final finish greatly compliments the textures of the home.

We truly enjoyed making this ‘Wall of Rust’.

Combining faiths through an artistic interpretation of synchronicity. Installed in a couples’ home reflecting their harmonious relationship being from different backgrounds.

This copper chair was built based on a design created by a student of architecture and interiors.

Installed at Minerva, Lower Parel - These lights were created for the passage area on the floor where the show flat is located.

We worked in collaboration with the architect who has designed WORKS the show flat in this building.

One of Girish’s first experiments was playing with waste material. The chain chandelier has been created in multiple finishes and colors. Shown here is a bright yellow piece installed at a design studio in //South Mumbai.

Still Water - Artist’s take Dimensions: 12” x 5” Materials: Cast in Bronze

Created for an avid horse racing enthusiast, this is a bronze table top sculpture inspired by the work at Marble Arch in London.

This work is Girish’s surreal interpretation of the original.

3D Wall Art Dimensions: 20’ x 7’ Materials: Aluminium clavos, stainless steel balls, LED strip lights, fiber optic lights, radio frequency remote control

This piece is inspired by the forms of stellar galaxies and supernova. The nucleus is representative of the centre of activity in an atomic structure. The pegs represent the rapid movement of electrons around the nucleus.

The force attraction is strong at the centre, such that it draws-in everything. This idea was inspired by the location of Nagpur, where the piece is installed, at a 5-star hotel. During the British Era, Nagpur was considered theWORKS geographical centre of India.

Keeping with the sensibility of the grand Art Deco style buildings of Marine Drive and the overall building design of Bhartiya Bhavan, these wall and ceiling lights were built using brass, copper and aluminium.

Scrap Metal Horse Dimensions: 9’ x 7’ Materials: Automotive scrap

This celebrated piece was built using one tonne of scrap automobile parts. All the components were painstakingly welded in place to create the anatomy of a horse. The flowing form was achieved with extreme precision.

This work is now Installed in a garden of a horse racing enthusiast, 72 // ENGINEERING WORKSin Pune.
