Aim:

To design a quality & innovative Student Housing in India for 140 student occupants with all individual/shared amenities.

The aim of the competition is to enhance the concept of “Student Community Living” in India.

The design constitutes of 7-storey structure made mainly of locally available material - bricks. Mud or adobe is a fundamental building material. It’s mixed with straw and water to create walls, which are often thick for insulation.

Mud structures also help regulate indoor temperatures.

Thatched roofs made from grass, palm leaves, or reeds are a hallmark of Ghanaian vernacular architecture providing effective protection against rain and sun while also being readily available.

Wood is extensively used for structural elements, flooring, and intricate carvings. Indigenous trees like mahogany and cedar are valued for their durability and aesthetic appeal.

Aim:

The challenge is to design a full fledged Architecture School which acts as benchmark for design schools in India.

The structure creates a landmark in the heritage city of Vadodara. It curates a thread between the student and the building, through various design interventions relating to material palette, space punctures, form, etc., to create an immersive educational experience through hands-on learning approach.

Vertical Circulation The design features different circulations for the admin block and the academic block to segregate the vertical access for students and faculty with elevators in the same given area Under-Graduate Studios As required, the provisions for 10 UG studios is given in proximity to one another.

The studios open up to the balconies connecting the space to the site Post-Graduate Studios 2 PG studios are situated at the G+1 level.

Each PG studio houses a capacity for 20 students.

White concrete plaster finishing for all slabs. The matte finish provides us with a worn out look that complements the adjecent materials

Exposed Grade A bricks are used to give it the building a traditional ambience curating a connection with nature. Bricks are easily available as well in the area

Aluminium louvres have been used which are durable and lighter than steel

Wooden frame windows have been used in accent with the brick facade M50 Concrete Plinth

A library on the G+2 with enough space and provisions for required natural light is provided using large floor-to-lintel windows to the outside recreational areas

After the entry, one encounters reception and waiting. Large enough to accomodate 8-10 people at once

6 out of 12 flights of stairs about 8 steps each facilitate a smoother circulation with landings to minimize the fatigue

The Louis I. Kahn Trophy | This was an architectural documentation and design competition organised

by NASA India, a student’s association. The site, chosen by us, was an abandon building named ‘the Malcom Kothi’. Our aim was to document the whole site and what ever it containing, analysing its architecture, history, evolution and purpose. This year, we were also tasked with adding an extension to the existing design. Our design was a Agrotourism Center to attract tourism in the village and revitalise an old testament to that times architecture and culture.
