Hello!

My name is Anumol Antony, I am an Architecture graduate, from Andhra University. I believe architecture is about to visualize the genius loci and to create meaningful spaces for the well-being of man. The idea of incorporating nature into the spaces to stimulate people’s emotions and connect people to nature where we all will live in harmony. I was passionate about creating spaces which brings us close to nature. This interest encouraged me to purse landscape architecture from SPA, Bhopal.

For me landscape design is not an addition to what is built but it is to bring out the best of what the land offers and its willingness to provide. My master’s programme has helped me in becoming a better architect who develops climate responsive building with a macro context of architectural practice.

I consider myself a very organized person and very adaptive to various tasks given indivually and groups. About personal interest, I am curious about different cultures, and I love learning new languages and always open myself for new knowledge.

Run off from adjacent grounds Water need to be filtered before entering the lake as it receives runoff not only from total grounds but also from the roads.

CAMPUS LANDSCAPE VEGETATION

In summers most of the areas of site become dry.

June to October are the months of monsoon, high vegetation on site can be observed. During winters vegetation is moderate. Measures can be taken to maintain greenery all over the year.

Campus shows varied landscape in all seasons. As we did survey in August campus is highly vegetated. There are two lakes on site extremely rich in fauna and flora, need to be conserved.

CIRCULATION

The need to develop the informal trails is almost specially for increasing the efficiency of the users.

Planned planting will improve the quality of landscape along the circulation. Location of signage must be revised in some areas and worked upon to comply with standards.

Landscape elements dust bins, street lights; major pause points have to be increased for the existing population.

HYDROLOGY

Site has got 3 natural catchment areas, on which only 2 of them is currently active.

We are receiving 90% of the requirement from rain water surface run off checker dams – can be implemented to sustain more water in the site. Increase the depth of the catchments- to hold more water, evaporation rate also comparatively less. Area gets waterlogged in the rainy season.

TOPOGRAPHY

The site of SPA Bhopal campus, bhauri was earlier an agricultural land, growing crops for which black cotton soil was used due to its fertile properties. Black cotton soil is rich in water retention power since it is impervious in nature.

Circulation The entrance opens up to a axial street, which end up at a focal point where the one road leads to the hostels and the one on the right leads to the academic blocks.

Walking along this broad axial street, users will be led to nearby small pockets.

This scenery links the natural with the formal elements & demonstrates the strong sense of pedestrian organization in the campus.

Having a space to retreat to, for example, appears to buffer some of the negative impacts of crowding and noise.

In an institution there are different user groups where some prefer privacy, while others prefer openness.

MANDU Proposals: Hydrology:

Rewa kund is the only water source serving all the domestic, tourist and irrigational requirements in the area, which gets dried up during summer. We have identified one major drainage channel running through Rewa kund and flowing away from Mandu through the gorge in the north east, can be rejuvenated to tap more water, using natural bunds and small reservoirs, to meet the requirements of the area. Natural bunds along the major drainage channels can also be used for irrigation purpose.

Vegetation:

Vegetation of the area includes forest alone the gorges in south west area, agriculture fields and pasture lands on the plateau. Agriculture fields are presently interrupting the natural drainage channel, which are required to taken care of.

Hill shade:

Shaded area can be used to develop catchment area and to locate reservoirs, as the evaporation loss in the area is less, also minimal disturbance on the vegetation.

Activity:

Local community practices are blended with natural recourses and complementing the environment, while tourist activities has effected the landscape quality of the region. A tourist village has been proposed to enhance the agro tourism value thereby benefitting the villages as well as enhance tourism.

Natural healing center attracts wellness tourism industry. Now a day’s nature cure center are just buildings without nature.

The proposed nature cure in vizag is to cater to the physical, mental & spiritual up liftment of the body & soul, living according to the laws of the nature OBJECTIVE To create a “living experience” to the visitors by balancing the built environment with the nature.

To design a climate responsive built environment.
