THE IDEA:

INFORMATIONS:

Frederick University is one of the most recognized universities in Cyprus, so like any other big busi ness, the University must have a well-designed and organized signage and wayfinding system. The goal of the signage and wayfinding system is to direct visitors to and guide them through the premises. A well-structured signage and wayfinding system is based on human behavior, significantly it creates a comprehensive, clear and consistent visual communication with concise messaging.

Beginning with the problems of exterior areas of the buildings where they mainly concern the orientation, it was observed that at the main as well as the secondary entrance of those three campuses there is no build board or some other kind of sign with the main services of each building.

The idea is to create only one signage and way finding system from the very beginning, where it can be easy to understand the most important elements of the exterior and interior spaces in the aforementioned campuses as well as the easy and accurate orientation of the space. The main feature of this system is to connect all campuses together, preserving the character of the University (e.g. blue colour), in other words without changing its visual identity.

The information will include straight, vertical and diagonal lines inspired by the Frederick University's logo.

In particular, the font will be simple to read from near and far, but there will also be a specific alphabet for blinds, thus taking into account the different categories of visitors.

Also, this system includes several icons and arrows that will depict and guide to specific departments, rooms and offices.

Overall, Frederick University consists of seven campuses, six in Nicosia and one in Limassol.

CAMPUSES: After researches and visits to the campuses, attention was focused on the three main campuses, which are ''the main building'' and ''the new wing building'' in Nicosia and ''the Limassol building'' in Limassol.

This results the inconvenience of those who visit the buildings for the first time, especially in Nicosia, where two campuses the "new wing" and the "main building" are located in the same area.

INTERIOR: Now with regard to indoor building problems, entering the main or second entrance, what is observed is the lack of guidance in the reception area. Information that are important and should be placed in the fore ground are located in wrong places and in small size where it makes it difficult to locate them (except in ''new wing ''). Also, floor plans are in the form of an architectural plan with unnecessary information.

However, the most serious problem that has been observed is the failure of floor signs and stairs sign on each floor. Then, regarding the rooms signs, they are very small and are not recognizable from distance.

Including the above observations along with the incomplete variety of icons, is created an incomprehensible and incomprehensible signage and way finding system.

CHARACTERISTICS: After processing and investigating the buildings, it was decided that the new system will be based on the idea of minimalism and Line art with the combination of three-dimensional and geometric shapes that will give a modern sophistication in the space. The format of this system will be more streamlined, with round cap caps being the main feature, helping their quick understand by the visitors.

COLOURS: The combination of colours is based on the existing colours of Frederick University, where the main colour will be black and blue to highlight the floors and their important elements.

Also, secondary colours will be the variations of the above in combination of grey.

A fresh and modern change where it will give a modern character to Frederick University!

BRAILLE ALPHABET

The basic braille alphabet, braille numbers, braille punctuation and special symbols characters are constructed from six dots.

These braille dots are positioned like the figure six on a die, in a grid of two parallel vertical lines of three dots each. From the six dots that make up the basic grid, 64 different configurations can be created.
