in this project the introduction of the tramway introduces the concept of road calming, new urbanity opportunities and a new perspective on soft mobility, such as new, safe cycle paths.

The aim is to return the street to pedestrians and re-establish the human scale.

Infrastructures are an essential part of the urban fabric and spatiality, such as the RER B, which crosses the region, and the D920 freeway. Disconnecting the urban fabric, this freeway houses a redundant infrastructure of shops and office buildings that occupy the first floor, encourage privatization and offer very little for pedestrians, apart from narrow footbridges, and disrupt the dynamics of the city.

the site, which was previously an old shopping center offering no interior spatial quality or connection to the street, with our intervention the first floor has been completely opened up to the public and follows a previously neglected axis, that of the aqueduct, so the project constitutes an extension of the old as well as the new pedestrian zone.

ROAD TRANSFORMATION

The project is interconnected and offers numerous visual and spatial connections between volumes, with an open first floor creating a new public space and an extension of both the aqueduct and the street, the project acts as a “buffer space”.

Our Collaborative Roots: The Lastenstrass project started with a shared vision, as our team worked together to shape the concept. We aimed to bring fresh vitality to the urban landscape, centering it around the bold white band that elegantly spans the highway, bridging the gap between the elevated plateau and the diverse typologies below.

In Graz, our group of architects and designers embarked on a journey to rejuvenate Lastenstrass, connecting an elevated plateau to the city below with a striking white band over the highway. The aim was to breathe new life into the area by introducing a mix of functions: a hotel, sports center, cinema, and nightclub.

In the Lastenstrass Project in Graz, we encountered deteriorating buildings perilously close to the highway. To address these issues and revitalize the area: Demolition: We removed the deteriorating buildings near the highway to improve safety and aesthetics.

Green Spaces and Terracing: The cleared area was transformed with green spaces and terracing, enhancing both the environment and functionality.

Passerelle Integration: Pedestrian bridges, or passerelles, connected the green spaces to the elevated Lastenstrass plateau.

The White Band (Programs): The central white band housed the hotel, sports center, cinema, and nightclub, acting as a symbolic and functional link between levels.

Functional Enhancement: The project aimed to enhance urban functionality, providing relaxation spaces, pedestrian safety, and reduced vehicular traffic.

LASTEN[LINE]

In summary, Lastenstrass Project in Graz transformed an area with deteriorating buildings near the highway into a vibrant urban space, blending greenery, pedestrian access, and functional programs while respecting historical context.

my architectural focus was on designing an elegant hotel with functional amenities, including a spa, conference room, restaurant, and co-working area. The architectural concept blended timeless elegance with modern sustainability practices, featuring a harmonious spatial layout that prioritized natural light and green building elements. The amenities aimed to create an exceptional guest experience, offering tranquility in the spa, versatility in the conference facilities, a memorable dining experience in the restaurant, and a dynamic co-working space.

Strategically nestled within the academic crossroads of Ashrafieh, encompassing multiple campuses of USJ and The Grand Lycée Franco-Libanais, the Ashrafieh City’s Garden project represents a visionary amalgamation. This transformative endeavor seamlessly weaves diverse programs within an expansive, flourishing garden, thereby revolutionizing the urban landscape.

At its core, the project boasts an architectural marvel—an ingenious transformation of concrete bleachers. These bleachers serve not only as functional seating but also as an outdoor amphitheater and an accessible, livable, and plantable roof. Beyond reshaping the functions beneath, this structure forms a dynamic connection with the iconic Corm building, further enhancing the project’s captivating appeal.

However, this structure is not merely an architectural feat; it serves as a catalyst for redefining the spaces beneath it. The large lightwells within the perforated bleachers flood the areas below with natural light, creating a cinematic ambiance that infuses a sense of wonder and inspiration. In the realm of narrative fiction architecture, where creativity knows no bounds, a visionary project takes shape—a ship-vehicle engine known as the “Riotor.” This marvel of design and engineering serves a noble purpose: rescuing fellow riotors from the tumultuous scenes that unfolded during the Lebanese revolution. Rooted in the essence of Roman spirit, this project draws inspiration from the enduring columns that adorn Beirut Downtown, reimagining them as colossal guardians of safety and intervention.
