World’s Only Complete, Fully Restored German WWII Half-Track To Lead Sale
With each passing year, the number of living World War II veterans dwindles. As of last year, it was estimated that only 66,000 brave Americans who took part in that war were still alive. The stories they’ve shared and the wartime relics that have survived from that era paint a vivid picture of the horrors of the European war theater and the daunting enemies the Allies faced. One of the most formidable examples of WWII field artillery was the German Wehrmacht Sd Kfz 251/9
Kanonenwagen “Stummel” halftrack, originally designed to transport troops but later modified for battle with mounted cannons made for Panzer IIIs and IVs. The Wehrmacht “Stummel’s” job was to support the infantry and break up installations and bunkers at the front lines before German troops were sent in.
The most accurate, fully restored, historically complete 1944 WWII German Wehrmacht Sd Kfz 251 half-track in existence, with authenticity to detail unmatched
The most accurate, fully restored, historically complete 1944 WWII German Wehrmacht Sd Kfz 251 Kanonenwagen “Stummel” half-track in existence, with research, interior detail, and restoration authenticity unmatched anywhere in the world. It is one of two known half-tracks of its type in private hands and the only one that is complete, restored from the ground up, and in running condition. Permanently deactivated and compliant with both U.S. BATF and German BAFA standards, it is fully legal to own anywhere in the United States.
A historical WWI Imperial German Pour Le Merite award winner’s archive belonging to Major Max von Mertens, which consists of ornate blue enamel and gilt Blue Max award from 1918; a NSKOV document awarded in 1936 in recognition of distinguished service; 28 calling cards from various officers, including several generals; three artillery shoulder straps, including one with rank of captain; flag remnants appearing to have come from funeral sashes; a large photo lot; and family ephemera including German Reich identity card.
anywhere in the world, is the featured attraction of Milestone’s Saturday, Oct. 11, Premier Military Auction. It is one of only two known half-tracks of its type in private hands and is the only one that has been torn down and fully restored from the ground up. The eight-year-long restoration process involved a rebuild of the chassis, engine, transmission, differential, and drive train, right down to the last bolt. Every aspect of the vehicle was addressed, using original blueprints and guided by wartime documentation and period photographs. In addition, extensive private study uncovered interior specifications and fittings that were not published or otherwise available to the public.
It is important to note that the half-track to be auctioned is not a postwar Czech OT-810 conversion like those seen in some museums, but rather an original 1944 wartime-built half-track. Its recent history can be traced back to the 1990s, when an American private collector acquired it from a seller in Europe. Then, in 2017, a
military historian and WWII aircraft restorer from California, learned of its existence and decided to look into it as a potential project. “The owner still had the half-track in a shipping container. We came to a financial agreement, and I immediately had it shipped to a restorer in the Midwest. I knew it was going to be a very costly undertaking but wanted to have the satisfaction of a completed restoration under my belt,” said the seller.
The only other half-track of its type is in the U.S. Army, Armor & Cavalry Collection (Fort Benning, Ga.); these WWII holdings include artifacts captured and transported to the United States under the orders of Gen. George S. Patton (1885-1945). Although the museum’s half-track is original and underwent an excellent cosmetic restoration, it is not complete internally. Unrivaled anywhere in the world, the half-track offered by Milestone has been permanently deactivated to both U.S. BATF and German BAFA standards and is fully legal to own in any

Coca-Cola And Pepsi-Cola Early Signage And Ephemera Topped Sale
The Fizzy Favorites Helped Lead Morphy’s $2.4 Million Soda Pop And Advertising Auction
Elusive signage from the earliest days of the American soft drink industry delivered an effervescent $2.4-million result at Morphy’s Aug. 18 to 20 Soda Pop, Advertising and General Store Auction. The 1,780-lot selection was dominated by rare Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola antiques, some commanding more than four times their high estimates.
Leading the formidable array of Coke collectibles, the largest grouping ever to be offered by Morphy’s, was a ca. 1880s clear glass bottle with its original paper label identifying it as John Pemberton’s “French Wine Coca.” This concoction, touted as being an “Ideal Nerve Tonic / Health Restorer / Stimulant,” was the forerunner to the beverage its inventor would release in 1886: Coca-Cola. Embossed with the product’s name on its shoulder and with a label roughly 85 percent intact, the condition-8.0 bottle rocketed to an invigorating $31,980 against an estimate of $6,000 to $12,000, making it the top lot of the sale.
An exceptional ca. 1933 Coca-Cola double-sided porcelain sign with a Christmas bottle graphic and detailed filigree adornment across the top was marked “Tennessee Enamel Mfg. Co. Nashville.” It would have been hard to improve upon this bright and glossy sign, which rose to $30,750 against a $10,000 to $20,000 estimate.
Another highflier was a ca. 1910s-1920s single-sided lithographed printer’s proof-onpaper depicting a man swimming up to a dock to accept a fountain glass of Coca-Cola from his lady friend. Presumably, the proof would have served as the basis for a diecut cardboard window display. In 9.25 condition, it sold for $27,600 against an estimate of $10,000 to $20,000.
A historically important affinity lot consisted of a ca. 1880s bottle embossed Pemberton’s Wine Coca, an 1868 Pemberton medicinal ad from the Rome (Ga.) Courier, a May 1886 newspaper ad from the Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle showing a portrait
A ca. 1910s-1920s single-sided printer’s proof-on-lithographed paper with a scene depicting a man swimming up to a dock to accept a fountain glass of Coca-Cola from his lady friend. Presumably, it would have been the basis for a die-cut cardboard window display. Condition 9.25, it sold for $27,600 against an estimate of $10,000 to $20,000.
The ca. 1910 single-sided embossed tin sign for Pepsi-Cola featuring an early block-letter logo and image of a bottle of Pepsi with a diamond-shape paper label, condition 8.0, sold for $19,200 against an estimate of $3,000 to $6,000.
of John Pemberton with a favorable testimony, and an 1898 Atlanta Police Department publication with an early Coca-Cola ad on page 26 and a French Wine Coca ad on page 28. Estimated at $8,000 to $16,000, the grouping achieved $24,600.
Coca-Cola Chewing Gum represented an innovative experiment in brand expansion. Coke-flavored gum was introduced in 1903 and was discontinued in 1920. Any signage or ephemera pertaining to the product is equally desirable to collectors of chewing gum or Coke material. A prime example in Morphy’s sale was a ca. 19141916 single-sided cardboard sign depicting a Dutch boy in wooden clogs, running with an oversize stick of Coca-Cola Peppermint Pepsin Gum cradled in his three-dimensional articulated arm. Representing the large-size version of this particular sign, measuring 24.5 inches tall by 18.25 inches wide, it was graded 8.25 Excellent. The sign landed within its estimate

range at $20,910.
Also created to promote Coca-Cola gum, a ca. 1903 single-sided die-cut cardboard sign featured a lavish graphic of opera singer Hilda Clark, who starred in many Coca-Cola beverage advertisements of her time. On this 16-by-20-inch sign, the elegant celebrity model is depicted with a stick of CocaCola Chewing Gum held daintily in one hand and a jeweled, feathered fan in the other. Graded 8.75+, the sign sold within estimate at $19,200. With provenance from the Schmidt Museum of CocaCola Memorabilia, a ca. 1908 tin-over-cardboard sign with a Coca-Cola script logo featured an appealing graphic of a straight-sided Coke bottle with a paper label. Graded in 8.0 condition, this fine

example of a seldom-encountered sign prompted a winning bid of $14,760 against an estimate of $4,000 to $8,000. Pepsi-Cola highlights were both plentiful and impressive. The vessel was further decorated by a horizontal-strip
image of well-dressed ladies and children at a soda fountain counter attended by two men in white pharmacy-style coats. Estimated at $3,000 to $6,000, it was chased to a winning bid of $27,060. Also harkening to the days when the local soda fountain was the place for socializing, a ca. 1905 Pepsi-Cola “The Pepsin Drink” tip tray proved to be small but mighty. Six inches in diameter, with an early script logo and the maker’s name “The Meek & Beach Co., Coshocton,

O,” it was AGS-graded 85 and sold for $27,060 against an estimate of $6,000 to $12,000. Meanwhile, from behind the soda fountain counter, a ca. 1900-1910 ceramic Pepsi-Cola syrup dispenser presented in 8.25 condition, ornately decorated in Art Nouveau style and complete with its original spigot and lid, sold above its high estimate for $19,680.
This ca. 1905 Pepsi-Cola “The Pepsin Drink” tip tray with early script logo, visually-appealing blue and white color scheme, 6 inches diameter, AGS-graded 85, sold for $27,060 against an estimate of $6,000 to $12,000.
Pepsi signage was led by a ca. 1910 single-sided embossed tin sign featuring an early block-letter logo and the image of a bottle of Pepsi with a diamond-shape paper label. Emblazoned with the message “Drink Delicious Pepsi-Cola / Very Refreshing,” the 39.5-by-13.5-inch sign in 8.0 condition sold for a robust $19,200 against an estimate of $3,000 to $6,000.
Also finishing well in the money, a ca. 1905 Pepsi-Cola cardboard sign with the image of “Miss Pepsi-Cola” holding an early soda fountain glass enticed consumers

The Spearman Straight 8 Beer cone-top can is from the Spearman Brewing Co., Pensacola, Fla., ca. 1930s-1940s. With an image of Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon and the Fountain of Youth reading “Brewed with the pure water Ponce de Leon spent his life seeking plus the finest grains and brewing talent,” and marked on back seam “Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP),” condition 8.0, it was estimated at $1,000 to $2,000, and sold for $5,166.
