The Fenton Art Glass Company was founded in 1905 by Frank L. Fenton and his brother, John W. Fenton, in an old glass factory building in Martins Ferry, Ohio. The Fenton Company was one of the oldest and the largest manufacturer of handmade colored glass in the United States. The brothers started by painting decorations on glass blanks made by other glass manufacturers. Unable to get the blanks they needed, they decided

to produce their own glass by opening a new factory in Williamstown, W.Va. In 1908, John Fenton decided to leave the company and founded the Millersburg Glass Company in Millersburg, Ohio. Dating from the early 1900s, this very unusual Lady Liberty bicycle flag holder had what appeared to be the original three 48-star flags with its gold fringe. It was mounted to the front of the bike and ridden in an Independence Day parade, said Kit Carter from Louisville, Ky., who priced it at $450. The U.S. flag had the 47th and 48th stars added in 1912 when Arizona and New Mexico were admitted to the Union.
