Masterworks Of Native American Art To Be Donated To The Met By Charles And Valerie Diker With This Gift, Native American Art Will Now Be Displayed In The Met’s American Wing The Metropolitan Museum of Art recently announced the promised gift from Charles and Valerie Diker of 91 works of Native American art a selection of recognized masterworks from the collection they assembled over more than four decades. Joining another 20 works already given by the Dikers during the past two decades, these examples range in date from the 2nd to the early 20th century and represent, through a wide variety of aesthetic forms and media, the achievements of artists from many culturally distinct traditions across the North American continent. “These superb works will be an extraordinary addition to The Met collection,” said Carrie Rebora Barratt, deputy director for collections and administration, in making the announcement. “They have been selected from the largest and most comprehensive collection of its kind in private hands today and are of the highest aesthetic quality. The Old Morgantown Glass Collectors Guild will hold its 28th annual glass convention show and sale at the Westover VFW at 340 Holland Ave., in Westover, West Virginia, on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4. The highlight of the convention will be a book signing event and educational seminar by Frank J. Consentino Jr., glassware expert and collector. Consentino will give a presentation on June 3 at 2 p.m. at the Westover VFW on the subject of acid etching glass. His recently published
book is titled “Figural Acid Etchings 1870-1970, Book II, Maryland Wheeling: A Glass Collector’s Guide to a Century of American Figural Acid Etchings with their Background and Story Significance (Volume 2).” The auction will be open to the public. It will take place on June 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, located at 20 Scott Ave., Morgantown, W.Va. Parking and admission will be free of charge. Hunterdon County Spring Antiques Fair Will Be Held Sunday, May 21 The spring Hunterdon County Antiques Fair will be held on Sunday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hunterdon County Fairgrounds located on Route 179 in Ringoes, N.J. (The GPS directions are 1199 Old York Road, Ringoes, N.J.) The fairgrounds are five minutes south of Flemington and five minutes north of Lambertville-New Hope. The covered pavilions at the farigrounds provide this fine show with the excitement of an outdoor event, but with the added element of being protected from any inclement weather. There is free parking. The show will have 60 exhibitors (representing New York state, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania), highlighting their antiques from many eras, including 18th-century furniture and accessories to fine early 20th-century collectibles. Showgoers will be able to find many objects to add to their collections and furnish their homes, including quilts, folk art, decorated stoneware, redware, painted and refinished country furniture, period furniture, early lighting devices, early tools, kitchen collectibles, linens and textiles, paintings and prints, estate and costume

Each exhibitor is carefully selected based on quality of merchandise, display, knowledge and fair representation of pricing in today’s market. The exhibitors will be arriving the morning of the show to set up for the 10 a.m. opening. This gives the attendees the first chance to make successful discoveries as the exhibitors are so busy rushing to set up, they do not have the opportunity to “shop” the show before the public arrives. For those showgoers arriving before the opening, coffee and breakfast items will be available. The food service is provided by the Hunterdon County 4-H Leaders Association, who help sponsor the show.
