The Tailgate is the brainchild of Connecticut antiques dealer Ian McKelvey and Massachusetts antiques dealers/show promoters Kris and Paul Casucci. McKelvey and the Casuccis were looking for a show that would combine resources for picking fresh antique merchandise with a flea market type environment, thereby creating an easy and low-cost event for dealers and buyers alike. What they came up with was the “Tailgate.” A trial run of the new show was held last October. Even with the threat of early snow in the forecast, a full field of quality dealers set up with a wide array of material. Due to its success and a buzz in the air, McKelvey and the Casuccis have high expectations for the Tailgate in 2017 with a once-a-month format. Thursday has been chosen as the day of choice, in order to avoid other flea markets and shows in the area. The 2017 schedule will be April 27, June 1, June 29, July 27, Aug. 24, Sept. 28 and Oct. 26. The gate opens at 9 a.m., and dealers are not permitted to open their vehicles until the horn sounds. The house and shop are open at 8 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts for all, and admission is free. It is suggested for dealers to

arrive early for the best spaces. The Tailgate takes place at the Walker Homestead, located at 19 Martin Road, Brookfield, Mass. The host property is owned by Paul and Kris Casucci. It consists of a 1698 Colonial saltbox situated on 30 acres in Central Massachusetts and features heirloom gardens, as well as a shop with country antiques and handmade primitives. No pets are allowed due to a livestock guardian dog on the premises. For more information or directions, call Ian McKelvey at 860-2087809 or Kris Casucci at 508-341-6870. The Tailgate is also on Facebook, and more information can be found at www.walkerhomestead.com.
